The Duck House Reviews

Teresa
This is our third year of staying with you and we are never disappointed. Thanks for fixing a minor issue so promptly too, look forward to seeing you next year.
Duck House is one of the best places we have stayed in. Lovely comfy accommodation , lovely big comfy bed & a lovely secure garden for the dog. Would highly recommend
The Duck House was very comfortable and surprisingly roomy. The welcome pack was a nice surprise. The Hot Tub was a bonus although the weather restricted our use. Alison and Phil were very friendly and helpful. Despite the weather we enjoyed our stay.
Lovely 7 day break in a very lovely area
Excellent property, well equipped, very comfortable and spacious, We would certainly like to go back again.
Cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Friendly helpful owners. Quiet area. Large Tesco just up the road & lots of little village shops & farm shops in area.Great having a bit of enclosed space to let dog out last thing.

A lovely clean modern cottage with everything you should need . A double bed if required or two singles specious rooms all round the cottage. Plenty of car parking space. Added bonus a large hot tub to relax in. Owners there but unobtrusive. Follow the location instructions to the full and you will discover heaven!
We enjoyed our stay at Duck House, good enclosed garden for our dog ,the hot tub was great. Nice welcome hamper ,and treats for the dog. All this makes a good start to the holiday . Thank you, to Phil and Alison. Beryl and Ian

We had a lovely time at Duck House. Was very quiet and peaceful. Very central for all the different beaches we went to every day . Lovely walks around the village. Phil and Alison were brilliant hosts and left us a very nice welcome pack. Thank you .
Really comfortable cottage. Much bigger than expected. Well equipped and warm. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our dog. Friendly pub within walking distance. Lovely part of the world to discover from a comfortable base.
A lovely quiet place to stay. The whole of the duckhouse was immaculate, there was a lovely welcome gift of biscuits and prosecco Neither of which lasted very long Owners very good at respecting your privacy but were about if you needed them. Would certainly recommend this cottage
Duck cottage was in an ideal location for exploring the surrounding area whether inland to Norwich or spending time at the coast. The cottage is very comfortable, spacious and warm. The hot tub was such an added bonus set in the secluded garden. Owners were helpful when needed but always respected our privacy.
Great cottage. Lovely owners. Go see the seals at Horsey Gap. Looking forward to returning.
Lovely homely place very relaxing but within easy reach of lots of places to visit
Furnishings, fixtures and fittings in need of some maintenanceupgrading. The gaps in the kitchen worktops were of particular concern for obvious reasons. The toilet brush definitely needs replacing. Set in a peaceful village the property is conveniently located for visiting the broads and other places of interest. The 2 secure outside areas were ideal for our dog. Nice big bedroom with comfortable bed and plenty of storage space. Welcome pack of milk, biscuits, fizz and dog treats was lovely.
Sharon
Had a lovely stay in the Duck Cottage Lovely and peaceful and central to everything we needed to see and do. Plenty of takeaways near by and a couple of lovely pubs. Had a welcome pack to greet us on arrival, Prosecco went down a treat! Would stay again if we ever go back down that way for sure. Thank you Alison

Great place to sray
One of the best self catering premises we have stayed in. Everything you need is there, well maintained property. You have your own private secluded garden which was lonely sitting out there watching the eagles soaring overhead. Great welcoming gift as well. Would definitely recommend. Many place to see and visit nearby.
Robert
Extremely comfortable premises, clean and well maintained. Has everything you need one of the best we have stayed in. It was nice to have your own private secluded garden. A very nice well pack was enjoyed. This premises would definitely suit a person with mobility problems. Many places to visit nearby. Many thanks, Alison & Phil.

One or two issues which the owner quickly resolved, broken chair, tray and kettle. On arrival assured that the hot tub was good with new filter, clean water. On 4th day filter warning light on, owner away, stepson reset it, hot tub now cold, we had to put heater back on ourselves, to use it on our last day. However it smelt very unclean not fit to use smelt of drainagevery disappointed. Also a bees nest in the gutter directly above hot tub. We feel owner needs to inspect property before guests arrive
Lovely place will be going back the owners are very nice and friendly
A very warm welcome from Phil on arrival. The welcome pack of Prosecco, shortbread biscuits, tea, coffee & milk was most appreciated. The Duck House was very clean & provided everything we needed for our weeks stay. One item which would be helpful in the future is a grab bar in the large shower cubicle, my husband has balance difficulties & needs a grab bar for stability. This is not a criticism but a suggestion. We did not inform Alison & Phil of this problem ahead of our stay. Despite the very cold rainy weather we had a wonderful week. Thank you.
We arrived home yesterday 21423 after a lovely stay at The Duck House from Monday to Friday. Both Alison and Phil were very friendly, polite and keen to ensure that our stay was perfect. They provided us with a great welcome pack and also arranged for the hot tub to be on ready for our arrival. This is a prime location to visit many sandy beaches and the Norfolk Broads. There is a local picnic boat hire company Herbert Woods in Potter Heigham nearby where we hired a day boat for a trip on the Broads. We had a great time here and can only give 10 out of 10 for the great holiday break we had at The Duck House.
Cosy, comfortable and the best provisioned cottage we've stayed at so far. Excellent welcome pack great friendly welcome from the owner and satisfaction check one day in.
Lovely homely cottage with everything you need, nice welcome pack on arrival and ... Lovely homely cottage with everything you need, nice welcome pack on arrival and hosts were very friendly, will probably return next year

We had a wonderful time at the Duck house, it was well equipped, clean, warm and big. It was in close proximity to the main road for travelling around the area. Two happy Chappies lol
Shirley
Absolutely lovely cottage. Owners really friendly and helpful. The cottage was spotlessly clean and really well equipped and comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful. The bed was amazing. Slept better than I have for months. Lovely area and really convenient for so many places. Will recommend to friends. Ideal for a relaxing break.
We have just had a week at The Duck House, what a little gem all you need and much more also a very thoughtful welcome gift. Very handy for visits to the coast and the Broads without to much travelling, Tesco and the fish ans chip shop very handy in Stalham, found the farm shop very over priced. You will not be disappointed with Duck House, we would highly recommend it and would love to go back
Barbara
A very comfortable bungalow in a quiet area ideal for a relaxing holiday. within comfortable reach of north Norfolk coast and Broads. Tesco very handily only a short drive away. The owners, who live next door, are very amiable and when we had a small problem responded immediately. I would definitely book again.
Quiet location and extremely clean and comfortable with the added bonus of the hot tub. Generous welcome gifts. Enclosed garden for the dog. Good position for exploring the Broads. Would recommend.

Nine weeks before our holiday in 'The Duck House', we had moved into our new house. After a busy time decorating and renovating we felt in need of a good holiday and were hoping that 'The Duck House' would be homefromhome. It wasn't it was much better!! We were delighted with the accommodation. We have stayed in many selfcatering facilities over many years, the vast majority of which have been very good, but generally find that they are built or converted for a specific need, that is to provide short stay holiday accommodation. As a result, space and facilities can sometimes be limited. Not so with 'The Duck House' this is a generous sized, wellequipped onebedroom bungalow offering a most comfortable and spacious lounge with a dining area, separate kitchen, shower room and very large bedroom with a walkin wardrobe along the full length of one wall. The entrance hall has a separate cupboard for coats, shoes, etc. The owners, Phil and Alison, provided a most generous welcome pack which even included doggietreats for our fourfooted family member! We relaxed the moment we entered and were able to pack everything away and put our cases out of sight. The hot tub in the enclosed garden was an absolute treat and most welcome after a day's sightseeing and walking. This property has 'raised the bar' and exceeds what we expected from the website details. If we return to the area again, it will be on condition that we can book 'The Duck House'!
Bernhard
Nicely stocked property and met our needs with our friendly dog. Ideal for exploring nearby countryside and coastline. A warm welcome by the host, highly recommended.

While there'll be plenty to keep you entertained an The Duck House itself, if you plan to get out and about and see some of what Norfolk has to offer, here are some of the nearby attractions you can enjoy during your stay. Please note that some of these activities and days out are paid and it's always a good idea to book in advance to secure your place where applicable.

Found a special day out near your cottage? Please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too!
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 5 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 17 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 18 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 19 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 24 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 25 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 27 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 28 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
