Sykes Lodge Reviews

Natalie
The house was absolutely perfect. A group of us stayed here for a week and it was everything I had hoped for and more. The property owners were great and sorted a couple of requests out immediately. There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space as well as large social areas. We loved the hot tub. The location is great, enough into the country to feel away from everything but only a 10 minute drive into the local town. I would love to come back one day.
Maureen
An outstanding property in a picturesque area of Yorkshire! This spacious, beautifully presented accommodation exceeded our expectations it had everything we needed for a very memorable family holiday. The enclosed grassed area was perfect for 6 young grandchildren to safely run and play in, the dog loved it too! Hot tub was a great hit with Mums and Dads! Alexandra and Michael were excellent hosts, responding happily to any requests or questions, which we really appreciated. This was a very special holiday which has given us many wonderful memories to cherish! Thank you so much Alexandra and Michael, we hope to return soon!
Lovely property, bang up to date and in a great situation for that part of Yorkshire. Super for a family get together.
Sykes Lodge was the ideal property for our extended family gathering. We were lucky with the weather but even if this had not been the case the proximity to so many attractions, York, Scarborough we went on the train and Malton on the doorstep 3 miles ensures that there is always something to do. In addition the size of the property allows everyone to choose between activities and relaxation. The owners are on hand to help out if required but provide a comprehensive welcome pack which explains everything as well.

One of the best cottages we have stayed in. Alexandra the owner could not be more helpful and nice to receive an email direct as this owner really does care that you have a great stay. Thanks very much a wonderful stay and the use of one of your fields for the little and big kids to play cricket.
Lauren
Stayed for my Sisters Hen do for 3 nights and had an amazing stay. The house is to a very high standard and has pretty much everything you will need in the kitchen for cooking and cleaning. The only thing I would say is whilst there is alot of cooking equipment there were no basic oven trays to cook with and had to use roasting pans etc instead which is obviously fine but these were heavy so only a few people were able to cook each day. We also noticed that the WiFi password in the kitchen was spelt incorrectly with 1 h instead if 2 but this was easy enough to figure out. Other than that we had a wonderful weekend and would definitely come back. All the rooms were beautifully made up and the beds were very comfortable, the mattresses are nice and firm and the bathrooms were very clean and wonderful to relax in.
We stayed at Sykes Lodge last weekend. The house is simply stunning! Large spacious areas all renovated and decorated to a high standard. The kitchen is a great size to socialise and everything you need for a stay with friends and family including a large round sociable dining table. The beds are very comfortable, again all styled beautifully especially the main bedroom which has a stunning large bathroom with bath and wet room shower. The weather was kind to us so we were able to take advantage of the outdoor areas, hot tub and bbq. The only issue we had was with the green button on the hot tub which were warned about, unfortunately one of our guests pressed it so it took out the power in part of the house but as I said it was our fault so not a major problem. Maybe a sign on the button could be added and advise where the circuit board is located. All in all we had an fabulous weekend with friends and would not hesitate to return and recommend to others. The local town is just a few minutes drive away. Thanks again for a great stay!
Michelle
Sykes Lodge exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful property with brilliant original features that make it such an interesting place to stay. All our needs were catered for with ample amounts of everything cups, glasses, cutlery etc. The property had lovely spacious communal areas which is perfect for a large group. The grounds were beautiful and the horses and chickens were very lovely to admire in the nearby fields. The hot tub and decking area was a fantastic space to sit outside and relax. The hosts were very informative on arrival and responsive to any query. Which was only an extra towel needed. I would recommend this property and would definitely come again.
A great place to stay for families! Plenty of room, discreet areas, kitchen well stocked with crockery, cutlery, ovens, fridges etc. The children loved playing hide and seek with all of the rooms. Very nice outside area although we were unable to benefit due to poor weather. The paddock is ideal for dog owners and we had two dogs and so perfect.
Christopher
We spent a week in this beautifully renovated property. It oozes with character and charm in every corner. Alexandra and Michael were exceptionally friendly and the 2 very minor issues we had during the week were tended to immediately. Every single room has its own style and whoever decorated these rooms certainly has an eye for design and detail. Without doubt the best rental property we have booked!
Our stay at Sykes Lodge was wonderful! The house is exactly as listed, and was immaculately clean on our arrival. The beds were comfortable, temperature was warm. There were plenty of plates, cookwear and glasses for a large group. Living room was comfortable and had plenty of space for a big group to sit together. Alexandra and her husband were great hosts, and gave us a tour when we arrived to show us how to use everything, and gave us a welcome basket. The guide they put together for guests is detailed and helpful. I only had a few very minor negatives, flagging more for the hosts benefit future guests please note neither of these should put you off staying at this wonderful house The pipes near the second fridge in the kitchen often smelled quite bad. I did flag this to Alexandra who explained it was due to leaves outside but it was occasionally quite offputting, especially being so near the kitchen. The hot tub had a button that shut down the whole thing and required the hosts to come and restart it. The button looks like a typical menu button, so despite me telling our group about it, it still was accidentally pressed. This meant contacting the hosts to fix the hot tub, and waiting a few hours before they could come an help, interrupting the evening a bit. I'd suggest putting waterproof tape on this button, or a warning sign beside the hot tub, to stop this confusing situation happening in future.

We had a wonderful half term break at Sykes Lodge, despite the awful weather. The house is absolutely beautiful and had plenty of areas where the children could go and chill, as well as the adults. We were really well looked after from Alexandra and Michael, lots of communication, we even received weather and travel updates on the storms. Thank you for a fantastic stay.
Absolutely brilliant house and so well equipped!
Elaine
Fabulous place to stay we have had such a good week. The Lodge is amazing with plenty of room, well equipped and really comfy beds and bedding. Michael was amazing and was quick to help us with any issues. Thank you
Andrew
We spent October week in this fantastic house. Good communication with the owners from the start till the end of the holiday. The rooms were all unique and of a good size. We spent most of our time in the kitchen which was spacious and well laid out. A perfect area to eat, drink , chat and chill. The padock was loved by our two dogs who chased each other around in a safe environment . All in all I would highly recommend Sykes lodge. Perfect position surrounded by beautiful countryside but still only a 5 min drive to Malton and close enough to other towns and villages. The outside are is well maintained and the hottub is perfect for relaxing . The house is quite simply fantastic and made for a perfect holiday for all the family and our two dogs .
A beautiful house, tastefully decorated and lots of thoughtful extras. We hope to return for a longer stay!
Lynsey
The photographs on the website do not do the place any justice. The main bedroom and ensuite was amazing and everyone agreed the beds were so comfortable and very clean.
Very high spec property. All beautifully maintained. The dog enclosure was very useful. A swimming pool would be a great addition. The large circular table accommodated us all comfortably, but had an alarming wobble. A very relaxing stay.
Philip
We had a fabulous time at Sykes Cottage. The property is beautiful and accommodated our group of 15 very well. The rooms were exactly as seen on the site and the outside space added to what was an overall wonderful family holiday. Alexandra and Michael, were always on hand to help with anything and made us feel very welcome. Would certainly recommend this property and while it was our first time to Yorkshire, I am sure it will not be our last!
What a fabulous property. Spacious and luxurious with everything you need and more. It was loved by all members of our multigenerational family, and the dogs too. The owners were lovely and welcoming, unobtrusively there when needed and even helped look after our dogs when we went out. Wonderful holiday!
Lovely property. As described no issues.
Catherine
What a beautiful weeks stay in such a fabulous house and grounds! We certainly made the most of the glorious weather we were so lucky to have by playing all the outdoor games provided in the gorgeous grass paddock along with our two dogs. We did a lot of lounging on the patio and dipped into the hot tub with iced aperyol spritz plenty of fridgefreezer space for refreshments!!! Said hello daily to the friendly horse and sheep who made for welcome company during the stay! Theres something rather magical bathing in a hot tub whilst gazing at a beautiful horse shaded under a tree in a sunny green field and then later to the countryside starry nights sky. We definitely made the most of the kitchen facilities of which there were plenty and nibbled most days, cooked most evenings and ventured out to The Stoned Trough which was delicious one evening. The bed was insanely comfy and all rooms furnished to such a tasteful and high quality. All the showers were hot, powerful and never fell short despite the number of people stayingusing them. We loved mooching about in the robes provided too, how can you not feel relaxed and in holiday mode in a robe!! The local walks we had were all delightful, down at Kirkham Abbey and along a couple of the rivers nearby. The footpath maps online are most certainly not a 100 given so we did come across a few fields overgrown over path with nettlesrape seed which we embraced, some more willingly than others! All in all a tremendous holiday, enjoyed by both Hens for the initial weekend and then my family for the remainder of the week. Thank you so much for the hospitality of Alexandra and Michael. Firstly for creating such a wonderful place to stay we ALL enjoyed looking through the book! and being so accommodating with our very few needs. All the best.
From the minute you enter the property & see the beautiful garden & surroundings you know this property is well cared for. Inside the attention to detail is perfect. Tastefully restored, but we'll equipped with all mod cons. Beautiful property, great stay. It was a celebration for our Golden Wedding, perfect memories
Philip
Amazing, well refurbished property with very accommodating owners always ready to help out if needed. Perfect for a large family with separate areas if needed for a bit of quiet time.

Elizabeth
We had a fantastic long weekend for my 70th birthday. The property was extremely comfortable and well equipped and the children enjoyed the hot tub. We would definitely consider staying at Sykes Lodge again in the future.
Awesome property. Lots of space and great facilities. Great location with many attractions nearby. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly and just a phone call away if needed. Would definitely recommend.
Claire
We had a really lovely stay, the house is amazing and Micheal and Alexandra were always so helpful and prompt when we had only very minor issues! The space was perfect for our big family holiday and the hot tub was an added bonus! Thank you, we would definitely stay there again!
Amazing property that was perfect for 13 adults for a university reunion. The kitchen facilities are excellent, it was great to have 2 ovens and another combi oven. The large round kitchen table was perfect for meal times and for playing games. It could fit all 13 of us comfortably. We loved spending time in the hot tub, it was great we could also play music through the speakers! Our hosts were very welcoming and gave me a guided tour of all rooms and facilities on arrival. They were at hand almost instantly when the door handle came off to one of the bedrooms and to provide some additional bin bags & dishwasher tablets. I would definitely return to this property, the photos dont do it justice!
Amazing !!! House was beautiful, perfect for our different family groups. Lots to do within 1 hr travel local supermarkets great and a cheap petrol garage. Cannot find fault fabulous relaxed time had by all.
The house is lovely and its obvious it has been designed with care and attention to detail. Retaining some of the original features adds to the character and the layout provides privacy as well as excellent communal spaces. We had gorgeous weather so made the most of the outside space which was perfect for large gatherings. Furnishings and equipment etc were first class.
Allisha
This was the best property we have ever stayed in, the character and detail to modernise it and the effort and cleverness in the layout had something for us all! The rooms all had different character and the beds were all 10 out of 10 for comfort! The views and private land to play in added a complete tranquil of relaxation to our stay and fun for the children with the girls games provided, sitting and watching the horse and sheep with the sun shining was beautiful! Would highly recommend the only regret we have is not staying longer a week would be perfect to add some fun days out as we just didnt want to leave the amazing property! Thank you so much!
A lovely house and very well kept in a great position to explore Yorkshire
Fantastic place, a credit to the owners. Nothing too much trouble.
We had a lovely stay at Sykes Lodge perfect for our family gathering. Thank you for being so attentive during our stay and responsive with the plumbing issues and getting the BBQ out so promptly when the weather took a turn for the better ! The welcome pack was also a nice touch.
Family of 12 stayed at the lodge over the weekend of 25th March 2022. The property is beautiful and all the extra details make it a really special place to stay. The house was spotless and the facilities are superb. The communication received from Alexandra prior to our stay was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Michael assisted us during our stay and again nothing was too much trouble. We would not hesitate to return we had an amazing stay. Thank again Alexandra and Michael!
