Bracken Cottage Reviews

Rachel
We have just enjoyed a lovely weeks stay in Bracken Cottage. Beautifully maintained to a very high standard, comfortable bed, excellent kitchen facilities, ideal location with plenty of places to explore. Thank you for the great welcome pack. The only issue was with the gorgeous leather sofa it was too low to sit in because getting up out of it was too difficult. The dining chair was fine to sit on for a week , we would definitely stay there again.
Adrian
Really nice property in a great location. Very clean and tidy and the hot tub is a must.
Beautifully presented property, it looked like we were the first occupants despite it being open for a couple of years. Everything you could hope for was provided and generally well equipped. Dog friendly with some lovely touches like a blanket, towel and treats supplied. The location is excellent for exploring York and the amenities in nearby Pocklington are ideal. We thoroughly recommend this property.
Beautiful cottage, very comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend.
Georgina
Gorgeous cottage with everything you need for a relaxing stay
Lovely bungalow,I think the owners need to put a walk way to the hut tub as the chipping's that they have put down are not very smooth underfoot, and possibly put a patio area where the table and chairs are, if you have children there is nowhere they could play outside. The bungalow is to a good standard and every thing you need is there,we found that the sofa was a bit small four 4 people, i would of had two 2 seater settees.
Loved our stay at Bracken Cottage, accommodation was spotlessly clean, beds were comfortable, the kitchen had all the equipment needed during our stay. Loved the hot tub, we were a little worried because weve never used a wood burning one before but soon got the hang of it. Overall it was an excellent short break and the hamper provided on arrival was a lovely touch. Would thoroughly recommend staying there. We will definitely be returning.

Very enjoyable stay the lovely tree and welcome hamper was a lovely addition ... Very enjoyable stay the lovely tree and welcome hamper was a lovely addition very cosy and welcoming we had a lovely Christmas and will be going back again for certain thank you
The property was excellent, clean, comfortable, private and welcoming, as we would have expected from a high rating Sykes cottage. The Christmas tree and lights added to the festive atmosphere. The location is good, the park and ride very easy to use. The welcome hamper was very generous but we would have preferred and given the cottage 5 stars if more basics were provided. For example extra toilet roll, kitchen towel, dish washer tablets and firelighters etc. The internet during our stay was also quite patchy at times especially in the main bedroom. Our only other issue which could be called personal preference, is that a log burning hot tub is too much effort to manage after a day out sightseeing. Overall theses were minor issues, not requiring us to bother the owners at the time. We still have a fabulous time at Bracken cottage and our feedback is meant to be helpful.
Fabulous cottage and host very welcoming and helpful

Lovely location and gorgeous cottage. Extremely clean and well equipped. Lovely welcome hamper provided and helpful owners on site. Nothing else needed for a lovely stay, would definitely recommend!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Bracken Cottage. Everything was spotlessly clean, high spec and we found the cottage to be well equipped which made our stay very comfortable. We arrived to find a hamper of treats, milk and orange juice in the fridge and fluffy robes and slippers for each of us off to a great start! The cottage is situated in a very quiet spot of countryside and we were undisturbed. There are three TVs, one in the living room, and one in each bedroom which made life easier as the kids could watch what they wanted. Unfortunately, I hadnt realised until arriving at the cottage and reading the manual, that dogs are not allowed to be left unattended in the cottage. When I had booked Bracken Cottage it was listed as dog friendly and there was no mention of this rule. Thinking it wouldnt be a problem because our dog is well behaved, house trained and rarely barks unless someones at the door we left the dog in the cottage so we could take the kids to Yorks Chocolate Story highly recommend, do prebook and York Minster incredible and go to The Shambles for some Harry Potter shopping! Whilst out, the owner reported me to Sykes and I received an emailing stating I needed to return to the dog and that I could be asked to leave if I did this again! Shocked by the threatening email, I contacted Sykes who advised me they always recommend owners implement this rule and they couldnt help me any further, so I contacted the owner directly who advised me the dog had been barking and she was sitting on the sofa where she is not allowed to sit. Eventually the owner agreed to let it go and wished us a nice day, so we didnt have to miss out on what wed already booked, but this restricted the majority of our holiday from then on as we couldnt leave the dog for any length of time if we didnt want to risk being evicted! By the way, Sykes confirmed later, in another strongly worded email, that this rule is in the small print within the terms and conditions that you accept as you complete the booking. I didnt read those and Im pretty sure no one ever does, so beware. The hot tub is eco friendly and runs from a wood burner. This takes quite a long time to get going 4 hours or so when its cold. We got better at using it as the week went on but it was a faff and very time consuming and you need to keep going outside every 1015 minutes to check it and throw some woodkindling on it. Once its his 38 degrees its lovely, but there are no bubbles. We would definitely have preferred an electric hot tub and to have paid more for it, so now we know. We went to the RAF museum dog friendly about 18 min drive from the cottage and enjoyed that, we also spent a day at Whitby which was fantastic and the kids and dog loved it. The Abbey is dog friendly as are the beaches, off peak.

Gorgeous, spacious property!

Wonderfully equipt. Exceptionally comfortable beds and bedding too! Lovely little touch with fluffy bathrobes and slippers. Welcome pack was amazing with a bottle of bubbly Coffee tea fresh orange and milk etc ! Plus crisps chocolate and shortbread and biscuits for the dog a lovely touch. Absolutely immaculate in every way beautiful en suites with great showers ! Probably would have liked a couple of hooks in the bedroom for the robes but hey if thats all I missed it was perfect. Dont hesitate to book as the area is beautiful too surrounded by green fields and the amenities in the pretty little village of Pocklington were spot on! We hope to go back as there are so many places to visit around the area and what a great base camp to unwind in on your return especially with the hot tub. Well done to the owners as they have really excelled in making such a perfect retreat for a relaxing get away!
Absolutely stunning property, immaculately clean. The extras were much appreciated even our dog got treats. Perfect! We will return highly recommend.
Lorraine
Spotlessly clean. Perfect. One of the best welcome hampers we've ever had. Towels smell amazing. Would definitely revisit. High end finish throughout. You will need to fill the hot tub with water on arrival. This is the first place we've ever experienced this. Not a problem, but we didn't realise until quite late on the first day when i went out to light the fire. Then had to fill and allow time for lighting logs etc
Katrina
The cottage is immaculate. Sofas are slightly too small and not very comfy but understand new sofas have been ordered Wood fired hot tub does take time to heat up so factor in 4 hours before use but once you are in it is completely private and like a warm bath which was so lovely. The welcome hamper was a delightful surprise. The beds were ridiculously comfortable. I cannot recommend this highly enough and we would certainly stay again.
We had the most relaxing time in lovely accommodation. The owners certainly make you welcome with cake and wine, a Hamper full of goodies and even dog treats for your dog. We will certainly, health permitting be visiting again and highly recommend this property.
This cottage is a barn conversion which has been done to the very highest standard, the fittings and equipment are all excellent, a brilliant welcome hamper and loads of cake! I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Fantastic
We have just got home from a lovely 4 day break at this beautiful property. From the welcome pack full of scrummy treats to the luxury linen, you can easy see how proud the owners are of this property and how much pride they put into ensuring that every guest has the same welcoming stay. We would highly recommend and will definitely be back shortly.
Excellent property, accurate description. I decided to bok directly with Sykes rather than online, efficient and friendly service. Regular email updates received which made arrival seamless.
My partner and I loved this little holiday let. Its down a country lane so you can hear no traffic when outside, but not too far from pocklington. The place was designed perfectly and the owners dont seem to have cut any corners. The inside was beautiful and has so much cooking stuff which we have found rare for a holiday let. We originally booked because the hot tub stood out but even without it this place is amazing but with it its even better. We had to buy some more logs which is to be expected so if you have some from home I would recommend bringing them if youll be in the hot tub as much as we were! 100 would recommend and thank you to the owners for such a lovely stay!
Stephen
We loved our stay at Bracken cottage, the owners were helpful with any questions we had, the cottage was very clean and welcoming, the hamper and extra touches were also great. The wood fired hot tub only took a couple hours to warm, we brought extra wood for the tub but didnt need it, would definitely recommend a stay a Bracken cottage
A great place with virtually everything you could wish for, our rating 99. 99999 Les gravel and a handrail in the shower would make it 110. The detail, comfort and finishes are perfect with a lovely welcome pack. We would go back again to this lovely rural setting anytime. Thank you
We really loved it here and would definitely return. A beautiful place and so convenient for getting groceries, pub lunches etc from the local town of Pocklington. The house is beautifully finished and well equipped. Really lovely little touches too including hamper, cakechocolates, fresh milk and juices, robes and slippers and a couple of games. The hot tub was great but as you need to fill and heat yourself, it may not get hot enough if you are only staying for a weekend. Additionally, there weren't enough logs for the hot tub and the indoor log burner. We used both sets of provided logs to get the hot tub up to the correct temperature for two uses. We bought two extra bags of kindling and two bags of logs, and in total used the hot tub on 45 occasions and the log burner once. The logs were readily available and cheap from Aldi in the town but may not be so during the warmer months. Overall, wonderful stay. Loved by all!
Germaine
We had a lovely stay, the property was beautiful and extremely clean on arrival. The little touches brought a smile, from the welcome hamper to the cupcakes for the children, very thoughtful. We have never been away from home for Christmas before but after viewing the cottage online I knew it would be perfect, and it certainly was. We brought along our working cocker spaniel Trigger who absolutely loved exploring in the fields and running free. Thankyou for such a great Christmas getaway!
Derek Roy
The cottage was very warm and welcoming when we arrived. Spotlessly clean and a lovely well stacked hamper. It was ideal for our Golden Retriever Enzo with the enclosed garden. We found Joanne and Steve the perfect hosts. We would certainly recommend this property and would not hesitate to stay again when visiting this area, it was wonderful.
Excellent, will be going back. Owners really helpful and friendly
