Lady Bird Retreat Reviews

Natalie
Everything was absolutely perfect. however the mattress for us wasnt comfortable and we didnt really get much sleep
Very nice place to stay, lots of walks, 10 minutes from site to beach. The owner was very approachable and helpful. The pubrestaurant is very good and nice staff. We went to the nearby mining museum and found it very interesting.Great views from the accommodation and the hot tub was most welcome. There are shops a short drive from site Asda,B&M etc.
We have stayed in a lot of shepherds huts some being much more luxurious than this one, however we found it very cosy and in a pleasant location. The hot tub was brilliant and the shower was great too . There were lots of cleaning products available but it would have been nice to have an extra toilet roll and some tea coffee and milk provided. We really enjoyed our stay and would return hopefully on a sunny weekend. Thanks
We have stayed in a shepherds hut before but this was so much bigger than that one, the bed was huge and comfy, good use of space saving in the kitchen area. Plenty of space in the living area with the two chairs for watching the tv or in bed if you wanted! The shower was excellent and you had everything you could need, although a microwave would have been handy but would take up more space I guess. Outside space was great and very private, and now we want to get a hot tub at home! It was lovely to sit with a drink in the hot tub, even on the most miserable of days
A great quirky place to stay for a few days, especially good for Saltburn by the sea, needs some TLC, but overall a good break.

What an amazing holiday we had riding around the moors then coming back to a lovely shepperds cabin with a jacuzzi and log burner. Great place to stay and it was a lovely setting with a beautiful view.thanks sykes.

The Lady Bird Retreat is a gorgeous, cosy, and peaceful place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and didn't want to leave! The only critique we had for the place is that underneath the bed had not been cleaned, and there were wrappers and rose petals under our mattress. Other than that, it was perfect!

Hi after reviewing the property and the pictures the place looked set to be amazing me and my partner have around 8 weekends a year alone in similar style places in different locations around the country with different agency's. As far as sykes go I had no issue but can't help feeling really deflated about the experience. Before arrival to the property I spoke to the owner and he sent me a generic text regarding the proper and what was needed. Bedding and towels provided a starter pack for the log burner and also details about the hot tub. On arrival to the property I was a little took back at the amount of rubbish and old empty cardboard boxes left around the place and general untidiness of the place it also didn't show very well on the pictures justbhow close all the other huts where to lady bird. We arrived around 4 after a long 3 hour drive the plan was to have some food and then have an hour in the hot tub as it was our first time booking somewhere with one. Unfortunately the text also stated the hot tub was unusable untill 8 p.m as it had to warm up to the correct temperature. Not abusive issue as the weather wasn't amazing so we could stay in the place have the fore on and keep warm in there. Unfortunately we went to start the fore only ro find that the starter pack consisted of a handful of kindling half a block.of fure lighters and around 3 or 4 lumps of softwood timber. As we have a log burner at home we know pretty well how long that would last and at best I'd have said an hour so after the long drive we had to head straight back out again to the local bnm to find kindling and logs to see us through the weekend. Before we left my partner had noticed the bedding wasn't the cleanest and it looked like stairs on the pillow cases so she wanted to buy some pillow covers. Also the towels provided were literally a hand towel each and a small bath towel. As the place had no heating othwr than the log burner and a small towel rail big enough to dry one towel at a time we felt the need to buy 2 extra towels for the hot tub as the the 2 provided wouldn't be dry enough to use after showering. Anyway we headed back to the site unloaded the logs set the fire only to find there was no means of lighting it no matches no lighters nothing. As im sure you can imagine by now it's around 6 o'clock dark wet and miserable we hadn't eaten or infact had a drink still at this point and had to go out again to get something to light the fire. It really set the mood for that evening with me if I'm honest as it was a surprise weekend for my partners 40th I picked it and feel I paid a fairly large amount of money for the weekend in comparison to a lot of other places but as it had a hot tub I expected this. So I was adamant on getting In the hot tub even though the weather wasn't great only to find out there was absolutely no outside lighting what so ever to even be able to get in it other than 2 sensor lights that kept going out constantly so the first night was a total write off. And other than having half an hour in it on the Saturday that was it we couldn't go in it after dark as we had things planned in the day time we couldn't go in it. Inhad noticed the 2 other plots round us with hot tubs did have adequate lighting so it could be used. The shower qas pretty good I can say really good hot water and pressure although the seal.on the door was damaged and leaked water onto the floor with no floor towel so had to use the hand towels for that too the decorating was good and clean but the bedding wasn't good at all and the mattress on the sides were dirty I didn't want to look any further. I feel for the money it really was great at all and I also feel the photos of the place were very well taken to make it look like it had a decent view it didn't really show how close the houses where to us and the fact that it was pretty much an eyesaw. I hadn't realised untill coming home i was informed by a friend Skinningrove happened to have been on t.v a few years back as one of Britain's toughest villages and I saw the video on you tube it really did sum up the area. Just to add maybe a few tea bags some coffee sachets and some milk wouldnt hurt for people on arrival and a few more logs and the means to light the fire also get the hot tub powered up esrly as your paying for that it should be available for use from arrival not 5 hours after also lighting needs to be up so its usable. In the last 2 years we have stayed in around 16 different locations and never have i had to leave a negative review in anyway or had the experience that we did this weekend.
Lovely little place with a hot tub, perfect for walks to saltburn and staithes
Melissa
We enjoyed our stay very much . Our only issues were the hedge needed trimming as it was obstructing the sea view .The hot tub jets were very week and it didn't seem to be working properly. Also if it was turned around so when open the cover also wouldn't be Infront of the seaview .The hut itself was compact but very well thought out .The only thing missing for me as a woman was a mirror in the bedroom area as the bathroom one was no good for drying my hair !
Fantastic place to stay definitely coming back here again in 2014
Amanda
After a bit of miscommunication about where to pick the key up we were really please with position of Ladybird retreat. Peace and quiet is definitely what we got, with amazing views just a shame the hedges hadnt been cut down so we could only see the sea from standing on the deck. The hut itself is fitted out with everything you need although its looking a little tired so a little tlc wouldnt go amiss especially the mattress, you can feel the springs and is rather soft. I received a message from the owner with key pick up instructions which turned out to be incorrect also it stated there would be tea, coffee, milk and biscuits for your arrival so didnt take any but unfortunately there wasnt any so had to go find a shop. Apart from the few little issues we had a lovely stay and the wildlife is bonus.
Me and my boyfriend had an amazing stay at this little hut. We were a bit worried reading some reviews on various websites but we think they were extremely harsh and had a lovely time! The beach was lovely and was a 20ish min walk away uphill on the way back. The facilities were good and were all you needed, and the hot tub was nice and warm and always on we even saw a few shooting stars while sitting in it at night! The only element we were a little shocked about was the privacy element as there were multiple huts near us on the campsite which you could not see in any photos in the listing. Saw multiple people while staying there but didnt bother us as it felt private enough for our liking. Thank you to the owners for this beautiful stay.
Daniel
Great little shepherd's hut. .really enjoyed my stay...peaceful
A Staff very helpful & friendly
We absolutely loved our stay here, the walk to the beach, seeing the rabbits and listening to the Owls at night whilst on the decking. We hsve family up that way and definitely will use lady bird retreat again instead of our usual stay and friends Mo and Fiona Eltwab, we know who live locally to you recommended this place to us as they have stayed here too! Could not believe we had excellent weather too all week I could have easily stayed longer thank you for having us . We also loved the using the hot tub too in the evenings !
This is one of the most amazing places to stay and get away to unwind and relax. You have the views and the wildlife we loved watching the rabbit's and pheasants. Me and my partner spent 3 night's here and our stay was one of best we have both ever had. The shepherd's hut has everything you need it's been well built and everything has been place just right. The views from outside and in are breathtaking and the hot tub was one of our favourite thing to use after a nice long walk. I got the pleasure of meeting Mike and talking to him and found out he made the shepherd's hut himself I was blowen away by the amount of detail's he has put into the place. Me and my partner will be definitely back. Tom and Emma.
Misleading description. This hut is on a site with others not as secluded as the advert suggested. The pictures were obviously taken when it was new. Dead plants in pots outside, outdoor furniture rusty. Indoors was run down and in need of refurbishment. Shower had black mould around the bottom, the bed mattress had seen better days, the fridge had something spilt in the bottom that hadnt been cleaned, the faux leather chairs were worn and peeling and the wooden worktops had peeling varnish. We didnt stop.
Had a wonderful stay, perfect location, very quiet and private. The hut has everything you need and the bed is very comfortable!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful setting and the hot tub was a bonus
Robert
A really lovely place to stay. Will definitely use again in the future.
A lovely, peaceful holiday let. Lots more extras such as condiments, tea towels, washing up liquid, bin bags etc. Very private & lovely location, lots of wildlife. Would love to go again if visiting family in the area. The only criticism I would have is that the bushes in front needed to be trimmed as you couldn't see the sea as well as advertised.
The accommodation was clean, spacious, warm and very comfortable. The hot tub was of a good type and perfectly clean . The location of the hut as a good level of privacy on a very quiet site . On a personal level I would have preferred a microwave rather than the small oven provided but this is such a minor detail in an otherwise perfect getaway.
Absolutely loved it. It was bigger that what I thought it would be, the bed was soooo comfortable. It has everything you need, plenty of utensils ect and plenty of cupboard space. The hot tub was perfect as it has the sun on it all day. Really cute hut !! Will definitely be back xx
Amanda
Absolutely beautiful Shepherds hut. . clean and cosy and well equipped on a lovely park. The hot tub perfect with a view of the sea..
Gudrun
Lovely little hut, not as isolated as it looks in pictures, it's at the top if a glamping site but it still feels like it's your own. Hot tub is a nice feature and the outside space is well kept. Cafpubrestaurant nearby is very reasonably priced, good food, staff very friendly. Not much to Skinningrove, a small shoppost office, beach within easy walking distance, nice stretch with sandy dunes. Walked to Saltburn, Staithes also nearby. Overall a lovely little base, plenty of storage for belongings considering the size of the hut. It's well thought out and has what you need, wifi & TV excellent. Cooking is a bit of a challenge due to hotplates being slow to heat but it's workable for simple meals and it did the job for the small hut, not used the oven. Fridgefreezer excellent during the heatwave! We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic weekend break, peacefull & relaxing setting, hot tub amazing. Would definately reccomend to familyfriends and book again.
Lovely place to stay, very cute and intimate. Would defisntly recommend to anyone who's looking for a short romantic break away.
Lovely position being highest up and a quiet location. Everything was lovely, cute place with everything you need, hot tub, views.
Philippa
Lovely clean and tidy property . Really lovely location as nice and quiet with sea views and not overlooked . The property owner has thought of all the things you might need whilst away which was lovely to have access to all cooking equipment and cleaning products if needed. Really comfy bed with lots of space. The property owner was very approachable if needed anything and responsed quickly .
Took food with the intention of cooking, two ring hob took forever to heat, couldnt find any WiFi code so couldnt access. But other than that had a good time
Shepherds hut with a hot tub and all the facilitiesspace we needed for a relaxing break away. The access route through a working area is not inviting however once you arrive at the property the views are lovely and it was very peaceful. Would certainly return.
The shepherds hut was brilliant we would highly recommend a break there , near the beach too which if you want a seaside break its spot on. The village shop and post office was well stocked and the proprietor very friendly
Excellent property in an excellent location. Had everything we needed for a weeks stay.
Lovely stay. .amazing area..will definitely be returning
Wallis
Great little get away place would book it again. .
Andrew

Samantha
Spent the weekend here for a romantic anniversary treat, lovely little, comfortable hut and hot tub a treat. Very quiet and comfy bed. Had everything we needed. Great restaurant 5 minute walk away.
Cheryl
The shepherds hut looked amazing online and quite rural , when you arrive you drive past shedsdiggerslorries then you see the hut which had a huge JCB digger parked next door to it. The hut is not as remote as the photos would lead you to believe and houses are actually quite close. On entering the property we discovered it to be large with plenty enough storage for the two of us but everything looked tired, towels were well worn , bedding was bobbled, pots and pans were dirty. Later that day we wanted a glass of wine and discovered there were no wine glasses , we told the owner and he kindly left some glasses for us the following day with chocolates and wine as an apology. The owner made us aware that for the cooker we could only use the hob or the oven at once otherwise if we used both it would blow the fuse , we were told that a replacement cooker had been ordered but this was not replaced during our stay which turned out to be a pain. Once we saw through all of this we did have a nice stay as there is plenty to do in the area, sadly on the last day our stay was spoilt again . On the instructions it states that the property is ours until 10am, with this in mind we decided not to rush , so at 8am I stepped into the shower and then I could hear my husband chatting to someone who turned out to be the cleaner, she was outside cleaning the hot tub which was somewhat awkward as the blinds have gaps in them and I wanted to get changed !!! She then sat down outside waiting for us to leave , which we were both quite somewhat shocked at . Sadly we would not return to the property but the area is one would recommend.

The Grainary Wildlife Farm - YO25 3HS
about 21 Miles
Located in Harwood Dale Village, North Yorkshire we think this attraction makes a superb family day out and couples will also enjoy the nature walks in the area.  There are 6 nature walks in total surrounding the farm so walkers and lovers of the outdoors will be in their element. Some of our favourite walks include the Spring Flowers, Pond and Village walk which takes around 35 minutes, and the Meadow and Trees walk which takes one hour.
Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW
about 25 Miles
Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary - YO12 6RP
about 26 Miles
If you are enjoying a lodge break in the Yorkshire Moors and Coast then a day trip to the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary highly recommended. This centre is one of the regions most popular attractions and is educational as well as fun. Visitors will enjoy a journey beneath the waves, meeting many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures of the deep. As well as mighty sharks and beautiful rays guests can get up close to some more common creatures including star fish and can also meet the otters, seals and penguins at feeding time. The site also has children's play area and picnic tables as well as a restaurant and souvenir shop. Family tickets cost £46.80 but the Tourist Information Centres in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey often offer fantastic discounts.
Sea Life Marine Sanctuary - YO12 6RP
about 26 Miles
Located in the Scalby Mills area of Scarborough this makes a fun family day out for those who are interested in marine life. The fantastic ocean tank is well worth seeing - it's been transformed into a Turtle Reef and you can see an amazing array of colourful reef fish and coral. You may also catch a glimpse of the tropical sharks and turtles. Offering good value for money this is a day out with a difference and an all weather attraction.
Betton Farm Visitor Centre - TF9 3PS
about 27 Miles
Betton Farm Visitor Centre is the ideal attraction close to the North Yorkshire coastal town of Scarborough. This animal farm has all the cute farm animals you would expect to see and will appeal to younger children especially.  A great place to both play and learn we think the Betton Farm Visitor centre is great value for money.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs.  Some of the highlights of the day might include meeting Sofie the Shetland Pony and Henry the goat, as well as the pot bellied pigs called Porky and Hammy.
Peasholm Park - YO12 6QQ
about 27 Miles
This attraction is ideal for sunny days as the beautiful park is ideal for wandering out and taking in the scenery.  You can hire boats including rowing boats and canoes to enjoy the views from the water.  The pedalos with the dragon heads are always a popular choice too. Look out for special events including the Battle of Peasholm Park Naval Battle which has been described as a "must see".  You can also take a ride on the North Bay Railway which will delight children.
