Brookside Manor House Reviews

Whilst the property is a bit tired and dated, the location is great and the 10 kids we were with had a great time in the house.
Its rare to find a property like this. The property is not five star luxury but thats reflected in the price. We had use of a really warm pool and used the hot tub. Unlimited supply of logs for the burner, The teenagers played chess and snooker. The adults gathered around the fires and chatted. It was clean, it was warm and we had an amazing time. Plenty of spaces for the different groups in our party to relax. Beautiful views, lovely walks. We would stay again. Its quirky, its old, it is a bit tatty round the edges, its creaky its beautiful.
Nicola
Booked this property for a family members 50th. The cottage itself is massive the kids loved playing hide and seek. Need a bloody good clean and really dated spiders every were but it was fine. Anyway Saturday night was our party night as some of our family had to leave sunday for work Monday. Lit the fire in the main livingroom all cozy, next min the roof starting leaking. I don't mean a little bit it was pouring in. Sofa was soaked, floors were soaked. It was coming in from the light sockets so couldn't turn lights on. Anyway we spend most of the night mopping, grabbing pans, bath mats anything we could find to soak it up. It's a shame really because we was having a ball up until then. I did contact sykes but owner said it was down to heavy rain fall. But am sorry my house doesn't leak when it rains. Being waterproof is sort of standard for a house I would of thought.
Hannah
Lovely characteristic old Manor house surrounded by lovely countryside. Ample space for everyone, there was 22 of us and the bedrooms were large, enough bathrooms, and very generous living space. We cooked a huge roast dinner on the Sunday and the 3 ovens and 4 fridges made this very easy! Lots of tools pots pans in the kitchen to use as well. The house is a classic old Manor house. It is old, the doors and floorboards creak, it is clean fresh beds, clean baths showers etc. The bbq is small and coal so had to use the oven to cook most of our bbq. If you are looking for a modern, clinically clean house this one isn't for you. The hot tub is up a slippery narrow path again didn't bother us but might some. There is a chlorine guy that turns up everyday to check the chlorine levels of the pool and hotub. There was a leaky shower which I messaged the owner about and he got back to me straight away. Our group had a great time as we didn't mind the quirks of the house it made trip and we would go back again.
We had an amazing family weekend in this beautiful house. It is in a lovely location looking across the valley at Chirk castle . Nice grounds with plenty of space for children to play safely and we made good use of the swimming pool and hot tub. The house itself is spacious with room for all to be together for meals and also find space for some quiet time if prefered. The boys enjoyed the snooker table, many spent time relaxing in the conservatory, playing games in the library or reading in the lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of fridge space, cutlery, and crockery to cater for a large party. The aga makes this room cosy. Up an amazing staircase to a galleried landing and onwards to the spacious bedroom accommodation. The owner greeted us on arrival and was around to deal with anything we needed over the weekend. Everyone had a grwat time Thank you!
Dont bother! Whole Place looks like it needs a deep clean The showers look like they havent been cleaned and some have mould Floors and skirting boards are dirty in some of the rooms Cobwebs and spiders in rooms Carpet looks grimy in some of the rooms Two of the beds were sloping so people had to change beds. Couldnt get Jacuzzi bath to work but it looked grimy so we probably wouldnt have used it anyway Very poor lighting in the kitchen when trying to cook Lack of updated appliances, e.g. coffee maker, blender Some of the pans are very tired and could do with updating 1 large frying pan without non stick not much good for 15 people! Mice in the kitchen at night running around Outside really needs a lot of work. Could be a beautiful space. No quality seating for comfort or dining. Dirty plastic chairs rusting table. seating without cushions. Doesnt look like theyve ever swept the floor outside or bothered weed in the area to make it look presentable for guests. Owner left the house 10 years ago and looks like they havent touched it much to it since except to knock bits of tatty wood around weak spots outside. Barbecue hasnt been properly cleaned up from the last guest and was just a rusty mess Hot tub area needs looking at very poorly maintained also access to it was but precarious and needs maintenance bodged decking area. Whole out side area looks like it needs maintenance sweeping, cleaning weeding Steps up to grass are not family friendly at back Shed full of tat on display in garden For the money that is paid it should be so much cleaner and provide comfortable outdoor seating. Swimming pool is an older lined pool not tiled lots of ridges underfoot and very slippy for the children outside the pool. Also the ledge is very narrow around the pool so not great. Didnt charge us for the hour but but to be honest if they had wed have thought, it was a bit of a cheek. To top it off, they held a community event on the front lawn which were only asked about two weeks before we arrived explained it was an annual Solstice event, didnt explain there were other options or that it was a night event. Made it out to be, abit of music, bouncy castle and few beers and chip butties. However, on arrival there were already three large colourful tents on the front lawn blocking the country views and use of the lawn. People and vehicles were milling around in preparation and a knock at the door for electricity. The next day more people and vehicles until the event started much later than we expected and and then a live band started at 9 pm around 20 metres from the house!! Music only went off when I messaged at 1230 am because no one in our group could sleep. More people moving around outside the house and heavy machinery to remove the tents once dismantled. Joke! Total lack of privacy and intrusion that was never explained prior, Simon downplayed the impact on guests. Poor communication from the owner who keeps talking about discussing the situation with the committee rather than giving us a part refund. This seems to be a trend if you look at some of the other reviews. Not a lovely bright, clean country Manor House by any means To be honest, after staying there, Id have struggled to pay 2k for it for a weekend Let alone closer to 4K!! So far, weve been insulted by an offer of 150 refund! Dont waste your time, effort and money!

We all had a great time the bedrooms were well kept as was the rest of the house The owner was brilliant and really helpful The only negative I would say is the heating system needs updating but otherwise brilliant time was had by all
Lovely spacious property with plenty of bedrooms for a large party. Owner very accommodating and quick to respond to any queries issues. Easy to book pool and facilities, well equipped kitchen. Clean beds, clean rooms and soft towels.
We had a great time at Brookside for a few days as a group of around 18 people. The property was well located, spacious and well equipped whether it be the kitchen, snooker room, living areas or the hot tub. Simon the owner was also very relaxed and happy to help should we have needed anything. I'd recommend this property to anyone looking for a huge property with loads of beds and lots of character! Would definitely visit again.
Salyann
We had a great stay. Exactly what we needed too facilitate our large group of adults and older children.
Thank you so much for a wonderful venue for mine and my brother's 40th this weekend. We couldn't have asked for better in terms of space and the mix between rustic and modern facilities. Communication was great and everything went through without any problems. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends, and I would love to stay again for another big occasion.
Michelle
We had an amazing time in a beautiful property. Everything worked perfectly and the owners were very accommodating. I would recommend this house to everyone. Thanks
Brookside Manor is an amazing place. The large dining space with the gallery is perfect for meals together, and the big central kitchen means everyone joins in with the cooking. The snooker room was a big hit, as was the hot tub, and the children loved using the pool. The walk down to the Viaduct and Aqueduct through the wild garlic is spectacular. Everyone wanted to book another stay and make it an annual event.
The property was everything Id hoped for and more for my wifes surprise birthday party. Full of character ,loads of room for everyone it was clean and facilities were plentiful for all 28 of us.The owners were fantastic and on hand to help out with questions. The local area was amazing for walking with an aqueduct and castle plus the local village with coffee shops and pubs. Even found local caterers who did birthday tea which was lovely and plentiful, although it was our first visit I doubt it will be our last.
The description of rooms misleading on printout from agency. States annex sleeps 6 when it actually sleeps 4. One of guest family were unable to attend due to illness. Otherwise we would have a bedroom less. The shower in room 5 was back flowing and could do with attention. We were unaware that a switch in room 2 serviced the bathroom in main bedroom so they had cold water initially. But we had a lovely weekend and were lucky to enjoy a beautiful Christmas tree nicely decorated. We loved the house and would definitely recommend it for a break away. Swimming pool was especially a favourite with the family. The owner responded very quickly to our queries and his son was quite helpful also. Thank you so much.
Rebecca
We loved our family stay at Brookside Manor House. There was plenty of room for 28 of us and we all loved the pool, hot tub and large dining are. Simon was a great host and not even the power cut nothing to do with the house spoiled our stay!
We had booked Brookside Manor House for a week long extended family break. There were 23 of us in our group, ranging from 2yrs to 85yrs. The property had something for everyone. We loved the swimming pool, gym, pool table and hot tub and made use of this daily. As you'd expect with a large property, there were things that didn't work e.g. showers, heating. However, the property owners were excellent at responding to calls and immediately rectifying any issues. This is a big plus in our opinion!! We are a family of cooks and everyone enjoyed the large kitchen, Aga and the separate small kitchenette in the annexe, as well as the well proportioned dining room and living rooms. Our family enjoyed walks around the property Chirk castle is about 20minutes walk across fields steep in areas, as is the aquaduct. For further trips, we visited Barmouth beach about 1hr40mins by car and a few of us climbed Mt Snowden about 1hr30mins away. We would definitely recommend this property to similar sized groups. In fact, we've already recommended to other families. We hope to return again soon, as there are many more beautiful walks and activities that we couldn't cram into a week!! Paddle boarding in Bala for example!.
Lovely old manor house oozing with charm and atmosphere. External facilities were excellent and all very close to the house. Being old the house and internal facilities are a little tired but Simon is very helpful and quickly addresses any issues. There was an airlock in the pipes and a plumber arrived and solved it the same day. The grounds are excellent and it is isolated yet easy to get to lovely places like Llangollen. Overall the family had a memorable week and the children in particular did not want to leave
Me and my family stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate my mum's 70th. We were 8 children and 13 adults. We had an absolutely fantastic time. it's so nice to be able to come away in the middle of winter and be able to swim, go in the hot tub, play snooker, squash and loads more. Simon was super friendly and helpful. We were all so happy with the house and grounds. We'd definitely go back.
Victoria
What a lovely house and surroundings. We went for the weekend for a 50th golden anniversary. Everything was ready when we arrived, heating was on, the hot tub was amazing for a cold November day. Swimming pool was great for the children. It was cozy from the minute we walked through the door. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Great place for all the family,.24 of us all together,.to spend quality time together.
The location and size of the property were ideal for our party. However the lack of maintenance and repair was very disappointing and marred what otherwise would have been an enjoyable holiday. More than half of the rooms had no working central heating. Several showers didn't work and water leaked down the light pulley switch when the bath taps were turned on in bedroom 1. Some of the kitchen appliances were in need of repair eg the dishwasher door seal and lower rack were damaged as was the door on one of the electric ovens. There were two power cuts because the main fuse blew which were told was due to an inadequate power supply. There wasn't a wood burning stove in the sitting room and the open fire in the games room was not usable but both of these were mentioned in the listing.
The owner was very helpful. Anything we needed he was happy to oblige straight away. Just wanted us to have a good time and relax. One of the best holidays Ive ever had, plus his knowledge of the local area helped plan our days in Bronygarth. Brookside manor is incredible
Simon was a fantastic host. He was always available when needed, but also left us largely to our own devices. Some old reviews say the house is short of glasswear big pots etc. This certainly isnt a problem anymore the kitchen is very well equipped. The house itself is fantastic. Full of character, with space to seat everyone in the dining room. The pool and hot tub are a real bonus. We're looking forward to returning next year.
We had a great time at Brookside house. The house exceeded all our expectations and are really looking forward to returning ! We had a lovely family celebration for Great Grandads 90th Birthday. The facilities were excellent and all 26 of us had a great time. Amazing location Our only negative comment is the house could do with some basic cleaning products available with 26 of us it would have helped to keep on top of cleaning... a mop would have been useful too.
We really enjoyed using all the sports facilities, especially the tennis court, swimming pool and snooker table. The house was lovely and spacious and all our guests mostly extended family commented on what a lovely place it was. It was a fabulous week despite the weather being on the cool side. The owner was friendly and helpful.
So many facilities to amuse four generations of the family with varied interest and plenty of local interest meaning we had short journeys to visit them. .
We had a fabulous holiday. The facilities were excellent and we made full use of all of them. It was lovely to be able to light the woodburning stove in the evening when it got chilly and sit round it chatting. Simon was very friendly and helpful. So good we have booked it again for next year!!!!
Albert
Wonderful house, superb facilities, magnificent environment, simply perfect for our family celebration
Great cottage, full of character. Owner was extremely helpful and responded immediately to sort out a couple of minor issues.
Rachel
From the second we drove up the drive way and saw brookside Manor we knew we would have a great time. 16 adults, 2 teenagers, 5 children and 3 babies and each and everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. The facilties were amazing, keeping everyone entertained. We loved the fact the dining area was large enough to seat us all for our meal on Saturday followed by a game of family bingo. Would definitely recommend staying here, nothing was too much trouble for the owners. A fantastic holiday and would 100 return to brookside Manor in the future.
We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of space this house had. The swimming pool sports courts and hot tub made our stay more pleasurable and meant the whole family could be involved in activities no matter what the age. The only issue we had was the last day the boilertank in the main bedroom made a very loud noise from 5am onward and kept 3 families bedrooms awake. Would certainly stop here again !!
Really fantastic house. Excellent location. Really large house with pleanty if room but at the same time retaining the comfort, cosy, homely feeling.
Shereen
When we arrived the house was cold ,one of the toilets wasnt flushing so we had to call to arrange someone to come and have a look the next day. The plumber managed to get the heating upstairs started and sorted the flush but the next day the heating had gone off again as we were leaving later that evening just told the children to stay downstairs and play.We didnt see the owner before we left as he wasnt around otherwise I would have mentioned the above.
I couldn't recommend Brookside Manor more highly. What a weekend I and my family have had. The property caters for wide range of family members, from the pool, gardens and tennis courts for the younger members, to the sauna's, hot tub and relax areas for the older ones. The property comfortably houses 30 guests without feeling over crowded. There are ample break out rooms to get away from the hustle of a party weekend but also all can be housed in the entrance dining area and the living room overlooking the rear garden. The swimming pool and sauna room was a great way to spend fun time with the kids. Location wise, it is very picturesque overlooking Chirk Castle, where we went for a visit to look around this impressive 700 year old Castle. There would be plenty of pleasant walks around. Simon, the owner, was extremely helpful calling round upon request to sort out a couple of minor problems we had how to turn on the arger oven on. We would definitely considering booking this property again and would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun family break away.
Benedict
The activities were brilliant. There was something for everyone. The kids enjoyed the outside jacuzzi and swimming pool. Lots of space to run. Facilities did it for us.
Andrew
We had a really great holiday and the venue was fantastic for our large family gathering.
