Cherry - Woodland Cottages Reviews

Miranda
We had such a fantastic stay at Cherry Cottage. The house was extremely well equipped, clean and spacious and was perfect for a big group. Would highly recommend.
Jessica
Fantastic holiday! We stayed at Cherry Cottage which was so spacious, there was 7 of us and not once did it feel like that, even if we were all in the kitchen! Hot tub was lovely, even in the rain and the garden views were gorgeous. Beds super comfy, 3 bedrooms with an ensuite and 1 main bathroom upstairs with a toilet downstairs too. Huge living room and plenty of seats around the dining table for dinner and games. The virtual guide which was sent a week before check in was fantastic great idea and easy to use! Less than 5min drive to Bownessonwindermere. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
The property was lovely and in an ideal location. Very beautiful scenery and peaceful. Only issue was that there was some mould in some rooms and the slip mat in downstairs bathroom also had mould on it. Good that all rooms had access to their own bathroom facilities. Loads of pans as and utensils to use in kitchen also. Beds were very comfy. Overall stay was lovely and would go again.
Angela
The cottage was lovely but needs more glasses there were no Tumblers only pint glasses and wine glasses. Also broken cheap plastic glasses for hot tub. Other cottages been to also have plastic wine glasses for safety reasons. Possible some more bowls only cereal bowls, needed desertsoup bowls aswell slightly larger BUT we had a great family holiday thank you Angela
Karen Anne
Beautiful cottage in landscaped grounds. Great to have a hot tub.
Malcolm
The only negative comment we have is that an air fryer would have been useful. In all other respects the cottage and facilities were wonderful.
Philip
Cottage was really good. Very clean and had everything you need for a self catering holiday.will use this cottage again. One thing they could do is put a roof over hot tub for bad weather. But i might be just be picky there.
This property is perfect! The location is amazing, only a 20 min walk from Bowness centre so easy to get to but in a quiet secluded place. The cottage itself was stunning. They even included washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. The beds are all super comfy, the rooms spotless. A wide range of utensils and cookware in the kitchen and a fantastic lounge with speaker and smart TV. The hot tub was just an added benefit but a well received one! Stunning views out the back. Easy and simple check in and out. Very responsive hosts who even got the property ready early! Could not recommend anywhere more! Big groups or large families, this is the place to be! Lots of parking available too. You need to stay here!
The cleanliness of the house was disappointing, given that under the sofas and under the sofa cushions weren't hoovered and there was lots of dust and food crumbs. Also in top of the wardrobes there was a huge amount of dust. The dinning room table was covered in crumbs. Also the toaster is faulty and tripped the system several times, during our stay. The toilet seat in the rear en suite bathroom is broken. We had an issue with the bath plug which the grounds man fixed. Also we only ever had one key card it was the one left in the box we never found another card in the cottage. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely stay again.
Our group loved the setting and the quality of the accommodation. It was very quiet and the outlook was fantastic considering we were in such a tourist area. Close to the facilities of Bowness and Windermere and a walk right from the accommodation. We even got a call to advise we could check in earlier than 5pm which pleased us. Only criticism was our group all thought the duvets were too thin for the time of year weather with no option of adding a blanket or extra layers in the cottage. A throw was offered when requested but we had to ask. Otherwise we had a really good time and would consider returning especially if action was taken on our comments about extra bedding.
Melanie
We had an issue with heating on first day, there were several faults which we reported and it was not as clean as we had expected it to be. Location and house size was excellent. Maintenance and cleanliness needs improvement
Everything was brilliant. No issues and a lovely property and location.
Third time staying at the cottages great as usual no issues at all will be back.
Well equipped cottage and perfect location. The property was clean and well looked after. We used the hot tub every evening, even when it rained. A fantastic holiday destination and we would be very happy to return to this cottage.
Only a few small gripes. Good location and handy for us as we were doing The Dales Way. Neighbours quiet. Wildlife right next to us was great. We would have liked a supply of rubbish bags. Only just enough loo rolls. It may be good to have the option of not having a hottub. Not everyone appreciates the cost of having them.
Malcolm
Great property, second time we have booked this cottage. Plenty of room and enough bedrooms for eight people. Cottage well equipped, kitchen great, staff excellent and very helpful. Hot tub went down well and kids enjoyed daily visit of resident ducks. Would recommend early booking as cottage very popular due to location and facilities.
Heather
This was a very well equipped and comfortable cottage. Unfortunately not all the guests could attend due to a bereavement and Covid so three of us were lucky to enjoy the facilities instead of seven. It is close to Bowness but a shame its not really possible to walk there as there is no walkwayfootpath, you really have to drive in. Its a great base for exploring the southern end of the lakes. Only thing to say is the directions for getting to the cottage could have been more precise, doesnt say which junction of the M6 and which A road to follow, not obvious if you dont know the area.
The property was perfect. The living space allowed us to be all together as a family and the view into the garden made us feel like we were in the lakes every moment of our trip! We loved it!
Kathleen
Beautiful clean modern cottage which was ideal for a large family party. The setting amongst the trees was very relaxing and the hot tub was a great hit with all the family. Would definitely recommend.
Nicola
Excellent, Wii definitely return
Andrea
We had an amazing family break at Cherry cottage! Everyone had their own space but we were all together under one roof. Beautiful views and wildlife. Ducks to feed in the morning which my granddaughter loved! The hot tub was a welcome treat after my husband had run in the Coniston 14 road race. I cant speak highly enough of the location and facilities of the cottage brilliant!
Amazing stay, beautiful property. Would love to come back!
This is our 4th time at The Oaks, we missed 2 years due to covid. It was amazing to be back. The cottages are in a beautiful location and so relaxing. We had a fantastic time as always. Can't wait to go back again next year.
We stayed with a group of friends and our first impressions were wow. The cottage was beautifully decorated, the beds were super comfy and although it was January the cottage was lovely and warm. This was particularly important when we had been out for the day. The bathrooms were all modern and the kitchen was kitted out to such a high standard, it had everything you could ever need and enough pots and pans for our party of 10. The hot tub made the week for us, just to be able to have a nice soak at the end of the day. The cottage is in beautiful countryside but only 20 minute walk from the centre of Bowness or a 5 taxi ride. The Sykes staff were amazing, so helpful and it was nice to know that they were on site if needed. Would definitely go back.
Suzanne
Absolutely loved the facilities, the cleanliness and location of the cottage, couldnt of asked for anything more! The only factor that impacted our experience was leaving day when you have to be out the cottage at 10 am prior to departure We knew we had to strip the beds etc but to then find we had to sort through the bed linen and towels splitting it all into bags of bed sheets, pillow cases, duvet cover, bath towels, leisure towels is an excessive ask it we had to get up at 0730 to make sure we had our breakfast washed and cleaned all the dishes and put them back in the cupboards as per the request and cleaned through and sorted the linen. Not what you want to be doing on the last day!
These cottages are exceptional well equipped very clean very modern excellent
Everything was excellent and to a high standard and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cherry Cottage, despite the wet weather even the property owners couldn't do anything about that ! ! but we made the most of every minute. The hot tub was a real treat. The property owners and staff were very friendly and helpful and we would have no hesitation returning again.
Tiffany
Had a brilliant time celebrating my husbands 50th with 6 friends, cottage was gorgeous and had all the facilities we needed for cosy nights in cooking, playing board games or spending time in the hot tub chilling. 5 minutes taxi ride to Bowness cost 5 between 8 of us so we could all enjoy a few drinks highly recommend.
Spacious, comfortable house for our 3 generation family holiday. Lovely outdoor area with space for the little ones to let of steam and a great hot tub to relax in. Quiet spot but only 5 mins drive into Bowness.
Lilibeth
We love the cottage its perfect for our family, It is spacious, clean and youve got everything you need. We will definitely come back.
Eunice
We had waited 2 years for this holiday to come to fruition and it was well worth waiting for. Accommodation was spotless, beautiful location, magnificent views. Staff excelled themselves in friendleyness and helpfulness, above and beyond expectations. We enjoyed it so much we've booked again for next year.
Howard
Great location as the cottage is literally 5 mins drive from Bowness but nicely tucked away off the beaten track. Facilities in the cottage were all good, the cottage is large enough so that the ten people staying are not under each others feet. I would really recommend this cottage and even though there are other cottages around they don't interfere with each other.
The cottage was in a good location and there was plenty of room for our family of 8. The people who looked after the property were very helpful and friendly. Was easy to walk into Bowness from the cottage, the location was perfect, quiet and peaceful.
Jessica
Better than any of us imagined wont hesitate to re book and recommend to everyone we know!
LOCATION We stayed in the Cherry cottage one of half a dozen selfcontained cottages at the end of a private drive on the hill above Bowness at The Glebe end. While its not an unwalkable distance from Bowness, the walking route isnt very safe as there is no pavement and the route can be quite busy. But theres plenty of parking in Bowness just remember to budget for parking fees! Most of the car parks accept payment via the PayByPhone app so no cash needed. OUTDOORS Each cottage has an outdoor seating area with plenty of chairs, a 6 person at a squeeze hot tub, and a BBQ platform for disposable and camping BBQs. The outdoor space is screened from the neighbours so it is nice and private. Cherry backs on the woods so you wont get much afternoon or evening sun, but youll enjoy the birdsong. The grounds are immaculate and everything is well maintained. We had two dedicated parking spots 50 yds from the front door, and parked two more cards in the large overflow car park just 150 yds away. There is an office onsite if you have any problems or forget your key card. Cherry also has a nice large outdoor space adjacent to the property in which we played football and boules. BEDROOMS Four bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs, all with comfy mattresses and pillows, and the linen was all spotless. You get a bath towel and hand towel per person, as well as a separate towel to use with the hot tub. Two of the bedrooms upstairs were ensuite with double cubicles and powerful hydraulic showers, there was a spacious family bathroom with shower over perfect for bathing our baby grandson, and a nice open landing. The downstairs bedroom was also ensuite, and there was a cloakroom off the utility. Just remember to keep the blinds closed when the sun is out, as the rooms are in the roof and can get uncomfortably warm. KITCHEN A lovely big open plan kitchen diner with all the mod cons including dishwasher, microwave and toaster. Tastefully done and well equipped with crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils including a commercialsized cookpot and frying pan! The table seated 10 comfortably. Off the kitchen is a utility with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a very useful second drinks fridge. The dining room has French Doors opening out to the deck, and morning and night we were visited by families of ducks which was areal treat for our grandson. LIVING Three big sofas, lots of side tables, and a big open space in the middle for our grandson to play! A big Sony TV with all the usual smart tv features and a soundbar was much appreciated for watching the Euro 2020 football. There is another set of French Doors opening onto the deck so plenty of air circulation when it got really got. SERVICE We absolutely could not fault the service we received from the management team. They responded promptly to queries in advance and while onsite, and there was an office onsite to help with any queries during our stay. We were unhappy with the cleanliness of the floors when we arrived a byproduct on the additional sanitisation required elsewhere because of COVID I guess but they sent a crew in on Saturday morning to address this. OVERALL Cherry Cottage definitely deserves a 4.5 star rating, and we will be coming back again. So we have no hesitation in recommending it as a fab base for a family holiday in the Lakes, with lots of luxury at a very reasonable price.
Christine
Value for money. We all enjoyed our stay but the price for next year is too high unfortunately.
Great location, loved the setting with the woods and watching the wildlife of an evening from the hot tub, spacious house inside. Had a really lovely holiday.
Gorgeous cottage immaculately clean everything in it lovely location could not fault thanks
Smashing accommodation, great views, could not fault the place.
Antonio

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 7 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 12 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 19 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 26 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
