Dove Cottage Reviews

Christopher
Very nice little cottage with beautiful views
Melanie
Beautiful property in a beautiful location. Very clean and had almost all the things we needed. Would benefit from having a vacuum cleaner and a clothes line or rail available to guests. Would not recommend the walk to the swimming pool to the less able bodied but can be accessed by car.
George
Everything was great. We had a wonderful time.
Cottage warm and comfortable. Directions to the cottage not very clear. Take you to the courtyard but then no signposting to Dove Cottage though when you know where it is, it is only a short drive away. Feel the kitchen could have more equipment. Saucepans rather small especially if a family of four. There is no outside washing line and in the house is a small broken airer. Love the quieter life on the west side of Windermere. Hope to return.
We loved staying at Dove Cottage on the Graythwaite Estate, and hope to go back again Thank you Brian Townhill.

Dove cottage is in a beautiful setting, the cottage is decorated traditionally with all of your home comforts. A lovely welcome pack on arrival, superb views over the estate with the sheep and pheasants to watch. The pool was a hit with our teenage son. Very clean. The pictures hanging on the wall were somewhat spooky however the history justifies that. A car is essential with good access to Hawkshead Ambleside snd bowness

Booking was totally inflexible which was a shame as we were attending a wedding on the estate and wanted to arrive on a Friday but instead we had to arrive on the Saturday and were in a big rush for the wedding. I actually regret booking the cottage because of this. Also the cottage was quite expensive and for the money it was disappointing. I paid half as much for a cottage elsewhere in the Lake District which was very modern and much more comfortable in terms of the beds and sofas as well as the overall feel of the place. Dove Cottage is a bit rough and ready I know its old but it looks like it hasnt been touched since the 1960s...
Monica
A beautiful location with great facilities to keep children busy. The views are amazing!
Esther
Absolutely lovely place and being able to explore the estate was amazing as it has ancient woodland and private lakeshore. Id approach the cottage from the north as the bumpy track has potholes and an overhanging branch. Much quicker to come from the north.
Kenneth
A beautiful setting. Perfect for an outdoor family holiday.
Jennifer
I don't think I have ever stayed in such a beautiful setting. It was a treat to be on the Graythwaite Estate.
Amazing location with fabulous views.
Lovely cosy warm cottage with fabulous views.
Brenda
Beautifull Cottage with lovely views from the terrace to the big house. Very quiet.
The cottage and its surroundings are lovely and met all our expectations, but the hot water system was inadequate as we could not all three of us have a bath on the same evening, indeed there was no water at all on Monday for a period of time. Also the washer dryer as listed was very temperamental and only a washer so all week we spent with clothes on the airer in front of the fire to dry, mainly the 3 yr. olds clothes. No instructions on the heating system were evident and were not all usable. Fortunately if was not too cold in the evenings.
A quiet, well equipped cottage looking out over open grassland, with sheep grazing and pheasants strolling across. Away from the bustle of life with no traffic passing by. I didn't know such places still existed.
Geoffrey
The views are fantastic the location of the cottage on the estate is very peacefully and not to far the main complex
Matthew
Was set in a lovely area. Relaxing with fantastic scenic views. Provided lots of helpful information about the local area and things to do.
Philippa
We loved staying at Dove Cottage cosy, well equipped and peaceful.
Beautiful cottage, quiet and clean. Would benefit from a larger and more comfortable sofa and ot water occasionally did not work. Otherwise fantastic
The cottage was perfect, the view from the patio suburb and the location great. The added bonus of the pool and table tennis room was a welcome relief to help entertain the 12 year old daughter. Will definitely be booing this cottage again.
A minor point perhaps the written directions to the cottage talk about a 'rough' path. Before going I phoned to check that it was safe for motorcycles and was told yes it was. In fact it wasn't, not for conventional motorcycles anyway the surface on one section was badly broken, rocky and rutted. Other routes in which could have been given were fine
The beautiful and peaceful central Lakeland location and great facilities.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 9 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 12 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 13 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 15 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 17 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 27 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
