The Old Sunday School Reviews

Great location 3 mins into town and literally on some fantastic walking routes. The beds were incredibly comfortable, we slept really well. A few small tweaks would have improved the experience even more it was a bit cold in the evenings, some drainage issues that caused the shower to overflow onto the floor, pans not suitable for gas flames and a non stick frying pan would be great for omlettes etc. The owners were incredibly helpful when we needed them.
Amazing cottage. Second time Ive stayed here and will be back! Love it. Great location in a beautiful setting.
Such a great property with so much character. We loved the hot tub and spent most of our time in the lovely family room opening out onto the courtyard. Lovely friendly owners who were only too pleased to share their local knowledge of all the wonderful walks from the doorstep. Kept ourselves fit with the walk up to Richmond which is a great town with a lovely mix of human and dog friendly shops, pubs, cafes etc. Great location to explore the stunning scenery of North Yorkshire. Thanks for the bottle of bubbly too
Deborah
Fabulous house with everyting you need. Spacioua, clean and good quality towels and linen Hosts were super helpful.
Perfect! Doesnt need any more words.
Lovely period property, very comfortable with easy access on foot to the beautiful town of Richmond. Lots of walks around the river Swale from the doorstep with the rest of the Dales a short drive. We had a winter family break for 3 couples here and will probably do the same again next year.

We had a wonderful stay, a great place for friends to get together. The Orangery was great for us all to be seated comfortably, we didnt use the front room at all. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds really comfy. We had everything we needed and the hot tub was a bonus. Richmond was really nice, the walk up the hill would be a challenge for a lot of people but taxis are available. Will definitely return.

This was our third visit to The Old Sunday School. Emma and Paul are great, really helpful when needed. Richmond is a lovely town. Lots of great places to eat, lovely walks and places to visit
Fantastic property in beautiful location. So much to do on the door step and further afield. Hosts were really friendly and helpful.
This property was very misleading. It was very grubby, with no complementary toiletries in any of the bathrooms, not enough towels, the dishwasher broken, The fridge never seemed cold, only two toilet rolls provided for 9 people!! cobwebsspiders everywhere. None of the windows in the property open. This in itself is a huge fire risk due to the way the property is laid out the kitchen is in the middle of the house so no fire escape at all. We had to prop the front door open and the back door to let some airflow in. It gets so hot and stuffy something to be mindful of no fresh air at all in the property. The fixturesfittings are broken. Wifi terrible, no access to Netflix etc as the signal isn't great. The hot tub was dirty not cleaned by the looks. The BBQ was tiny for the size of the house and it looks like it's seen better days! No bottle banks so had to go recycle them at the nearby supermarket something you shouldn't be doing on your holiday! Overall the area was beautiful, I would not be staying here again, unfortunately. Emma lovely host but very let down by the price we paid for the condition it was in.
We had a lovely break in a great house in an amazing part of the world. Would highly recommend. Really helpful hosts. Lots oh great dayout tips. Thank you.
Nicola

This is our 2nd time at this property and that itself says just how we all enjoy staying there. Emma and Paul who own the property are very welcoming on arrival and always on hand if needed. The Hot Tub is a bonus for all the family. Lovely furniture and comfy beds Plenty of information in the property for places to eat and explore.
We had a lovely stay, really relaxing and fun. The cottage is well equipped and a lovely space for a group holiday. The owners are very accessible and helpful, checking the jacuzzi levels during the week and even bringing us a board game to play and leaving some fizz in the fridge. There's a lovely log fire, conservatory space and cosy living room. The jacuzzi is a brilliant addition. The cottage is perfectly located for walks along the river, up into Richmond or driving to local attractions. There are so many restaurants, shops and pubs in town. Parking is fairly easy with a pass for the high street. Sometimes you can't park right outside the cottage but you are never far away. We would absolutely recommend this place for a beautiful Yorkshire getaway.
Lovely location and fantastic house , just a great place with the added bonus of the hot tub .
Virginia
Well located just a stones throw away from the market area with plenty of shops dining & pubs etc. The house was very clean with clean towels & bedding etc. ideally situated for getting out for walks in all directions. The owners were very nice & popped in to check the hot tub while we were there & gave info on best places to eat etc. Woukd recommend to friends for group gatherings without the dogs.
The hosts were extremely clear in their instructions for the property, including a phone call to check on how we would like the beds to be configured before arrival. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfy, and the hot tub was appreciated by all. Although the spacious diningsitting area was a little cool, the sitting room was really cosy and the wood burning fire easy to light. When the oven died due to nobodys fault, we particularly appreciated the speed of its emergency replacement ON CHRISTMAS EVE, above and beyond anything we could have expected. Far enough from the centre, there were great walks from the front door and all the amenities for eating and drinking up the hill in Richmond itself. A great break.
Wonderful cottage! Great location, excellent hosts they cant do enough for you, so friendly and kind. Beautifully decorated place, hot tub is fantastic! Would definitely recommend
Lovely property in a perfect spot. The hot tub is perfect after a long walk. We were met on arrival with all the information you could need. It may be a steep hill into Richmond centre but a taxi for the one in our party with mobility issues really was only 3. Perfect
The house was as described and a lovely base to explore the area. The house had a well equipped kitchen and the owners were very quick to answer any questions. We would definitely recommend the house to family and friends.
Rachael
Such a lovely house. Beautifully decorated, squeaky clean and really comfy. The host was wonderful. So accommodating and friendly. We will visit again x
We loved this quirky cottage, it had bags of character, plenty of space and was very comfortable. The location was perfect for exploring Richmond and the surrounding area and it was lovely to have the hot tub as well. Paul and Emma, the owners, were really helpful and give us information on what was on in the area during our stay. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it to others.
This was a lovely property, larger than we thought which was a bonus as with four adults and two teenagers there was always an area to hide away. The rooms were well equiped with soft furnishings and the bedrooms and lounge were lovely and cool, very welcome as the weather was really hot. My Daughter in Law was adamant she wanted a Hot Tub and the one at the property was great and proved very popular in the evenings with everyone. The location was ideal, close to the Swale and only a short uphill walk to the town centre and castle. The owners, Emma and Paul were very helpful with our queries and provided many ideas for places to visit, dine and drink. We all had a wonderful time, many thanks.
Michael
A lovely property in excellent condition I thought it was a new rental given how immaculate it was! . I really like the mix of 'oldbuilding' stonework and 'ontrend' modern decor no chintz, no doilies, no 'nicknacks' to worry about breaking! The main living space is large with lots of comfy seating I think you could have a sofa each, even a party of 6! and there's a separate living room if a large group wants to do or watch separate things. Big fridge and big dishwasher both very helpful! Bedrooms are all a good size with wardrobes or hanging space. Strong shower jet in the main bathroom, and lots of hot water much appreciated after a long walk on a chilly hill! The location is perfect for exploring Richmond itself and then Swaledale beyond.
Property was clean, spacious and well maintained. Was met by the host on arrival who was very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Would definitely recommend the property to others and will probably be rebooking it again.
Absolutely lovely property, perfectly situated for Richmond itself and the surrounding area. Emma was really helpful and we had a wonderful time.
Very enjoyable stay lovely accommodation great position
Absolutely stunning property, very clean and everything we needed. My only feedback would be the sofa bed we used in one of the king bedrooms needs a much thicker topper on so not to feel the centre wooden support. This did not affect our stay and would highly recommend and certainly visit again on the future x x x
An excellent, relaxing week away with family in a beautiful cottage. The hosts were so welcoming, gave us tips on where to visit and were on hand if we needed anything throughout our stay. A very steep walk up to the market place and there are lots of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and only a short stroll down to the river. Thank you so much, we will return again.
A wonderful property in the perfect location for the town and riverside walks. Great advice from the welcoming owners made for a superb holiday in this first class destination.
Had a truly wonderful weekend at the Old Sunday school house. Was met by owner who showed us how to use the hot tub and pull out the spare sofa bed if needed. The place is beautifully decorated, and there was plenty of roomseating for the 8 of us. Didnt feel like we were on top of each other at any time. Nothing was too much bother for the host as I found out when I needed a DVD player on arriving. Would recommend place to anyone wanting to stay in that area.
Francesca
The most perfect stay! ! I couldnt recommend the old Sunday school enough. A fabulous location, beautiful property and excellent hosts. The hot tub was regularly checked throughout the weekend and always someone at hand if needed. A stunning stay for anyone looking to visit Richmond.
Anupama
Had an amazing stay at the Sunday school. Emma was so lovely and very quick to respond to any queries and she had so many lovely recommendations. The cottage is beautiful and well decorated and the hot tub was such a treat to come home to from our walks. I would definitely recommend this stay and hope to visit again! Thank you
We stayed in this beautiful cottage over Christmas. The tree in the lounge looked lovely and all the christmas decorations made the cottage even more homely. There was enough seating for all of us to sit around the table for christmas lunch and the owners had even provided a festive tablecloth. The beds were really comfortable and the shower powerful. The kitchen had everything we wanted, even a slow cooker which really came in useful. Just one little suggestion, the bin in the kitchen was not user friendly. I think a large bin with a foot pedal would be more appropriate. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. Richmond Town is on the doorstep and it was an added bonus to be able to park the cars and just walk everywhere. A bit thank you to the owner's husband who popped in to clean the hot tub, and was just in time to take a photo for us. I hope we didn't embarass you dressed in our Christmas pyjamas! We look forward to staying here again. Mrs Jackson
Was a great property with everything we needed in a great location, had a lovely stay and would stay again.
Very enjoyable stay.

This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Lightwater Valley - HG4 3HT
about 16 Miles
Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.
Fountains Abbey - HG4 3DY

This is an outstanding world heritage site located close to Ripon in the North Yorkshire area. Nature lovers will be in their element with an abundance of wide open spaces to explore and there are special guided tours for families.  Some of the highlights may include seeing wild deer and bats during your visit.  The grounds are fantastic to wander round but there is also an Elizabethan Mansion, Victorian Church, Georgian Water Garden and the finest example of Cistercian Abbey ruins in the country - Well worth a visit!
