It would have to have a good make over to go again. The location is outstanding, The roads leading to the proberty require a good 4x4 due to pot holes.

Lake retreat is everything it says it is. A peaceful hideaway with only the sounds of nature around you. I loved cooking in the evenings in the open plan kitchen/lounge/dining room. My husband, who has Parkinsons, was delighted to be able to spend time fishing for carp whilst I took our labrador for walks in the woods and around the fields. It was Read moreso peaceful sitting on the veranda, misty morning lake and listening to wildlife in the evenings. We had a lovely week, thank you Mike and Wendy. Hide

What a fantastic place to unwind and get away from it all. The house is lovely and well equipped for everything you need. The hot tub is great to chill out in the evenings or do some fishing in the well stocked lake just yards away from the house. Plenty of big carp and good sized perch. Plenty of room for kids to play and they can be as noisy as t hey like as theres no one around. We will definitely be returning and cannot recommend highly enough.
Shirley
Unique in many ways! A lovely spacious lodge style house in delightful surroundings with its own lake and woodland walk. Everything you might need was there including equipment for barbecue, paddle boards and a much appreciated hot tub. Owners quick to respond to any maintenance issues. A little more attention to cleaning especially after there hav e been doggy visitors would make it superb!
Martyn
The cottage is in a very peaceful rural location, but very easy to get to from main roads and close enough to shops and the beach as needed. Sitting on the decking in the evening and seeing buzzards in the sky, deer in the fields, then hearing tawny owls at night was the best. The hot tub was super relaxing.
Victoria
Wonderful stay in this cottage. We had a great time. The cottage was lovely, very nice and helpful owners and the area was beautiful. We will definitely be coming back.
Tracy
Second visit here and would definitely return again. House is beautiful and laid out with thought. The added bonus is the carp lake for fishing and the paddle boards too. The addition of the outdoor kitchen area that is in progress, currently with a barbecue in situ just puts the cherry on top!
Stewart
After a wonderful week at Lake Retreat, words cannot explain how spectacular the lodge is . The weather was unbelievable which really did make the week. The lodge is so lovely and quiet, the lake is a wonderful view to open the doors to in the morning and sit by the firepit in the evening. The lodge has everything you will need even did a roast for 6 . Mike was so helpful and patient giving directions to the property and helping out with grocery order. Will definitely return . Thankyou Mike&wendy
Emma
Lovely accommodation in a tranquil setting. Owners were really helpful and offered a great customer service. The kitchen was well equipped and there was lots of outside space. Bit expensive but it didnt disappoint.
Heather
This property is the best we have stayed in by far. The amount of space directly outside the front door is just amazing. We have a nervous dog so was the perfect place as she didn't have to see another human or dog all week. Plenty of space to walk in the garden and woodland. Aswell as surrounding fields that didn't have any livestock in. wellies a re definitely needed in winter. The house itself is spacious and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Beds are very comfortable. We will be back!
Andreea

We had an amazing time at Lake retreat. We used our special time there as our honeymoon. We used this place as our base whilst seeing other places in Devon, and Cornwall, but it was just great to get back ,and relax in the hot tub in the evenings. You were not over looked, and woke up to the geese that were on the lake, and managed to see a deer to o. Mike and Wendy definitely have such an amazing holiday cottage, and would definitely recommend this place to everyone. Steve & Angela
Craig

Simply Magical, tucked away in beautiful surroundings with not a neighbour in sight, ideal for families or friends looking for a luxury relaxing escape with total privacy. The owners Mike & Wendy are clearly passionate in providing a wonderful experience for guests. The hot tub was immaculate, and the lodge is simply beautiful, Evenings spent watch ing the stars or listening to the owls hooting from the hot tub. I just know we will return for a third stay, its that magical. (The Hot Tubbies)

Five star all the way! A fabulous house in a fabulous location, it exceeded our expectations! The hot tub was areal treat and we got to try paddle boarding in the lake (boards provided by the owners) Lovely contemporary furnishings, decor and really comfy beds - weve never slept so well! The grounds are extensive and not overlooked in any way. We h ave recommended the Retreat to friends and look forward to going back ourselves. Bubbly and chocs were a nice little touch from the owners.
Kay
Wendy & Mike introduced themselves then left us to enjoy our holiday, but were at the end of the phone if required. Fantastic rural location. it had everything we could of wished for, hot tub, fire pit, paddle boarding on the lake. Accommodation was very well equipped, & had a very sociable lay out. Beaches are only 30 mins away.
Paul
What a great place to get away from it all, great views, and lovely property . Our autistic son was free to explore and express himself away from the crowds, looks we are putting in a hot tub at home!. Dog loved the lake to himself as did we on the paddle board. Mike and Wendy were never intrusive but always supportive if we did need anythingthanks you to your son as well for the lesson on algae in the lake, was reassuring it wasnt my shampoo
Mike
A truly great property located in a peaceful area with no noisy neighbours. The lodge is very wheelchair friendly and the low level shower is very accessible. The ground floor layout is very easy to negotiate by a wheelchair user. The decked areas to the front and rear lends itself to many uses and the hot tub is a gem. Would definitely stay there a gain. The only downside is the narrow lanes that you have to drive along to reach the property. All in all a great place to stay.
Walter
The Lodge was perfect in every way possible. The peace and tranquility lived up to the name Lake Retreat and we were far removed from the normal hustle and bustle of daily life. The owners were very caring and nothing was too much to ask of them. We enjoyed a week of utter peace except for the narrow winding lanes when we went out for our daily exc ursions to some beautiful venues.
Jackie
This is a lovely property. Very tranquil and restful. There is a supermarket 10 minutes drive away in Holsworthy and its also an easy drive to the coast, other towns and Dartmoor. The owners were very friendly and were a phone call away if needed. The lodge is very well equipped and we enjoyed the wine, chocolates and flowers on arrival.
Sarah
We absolutely loved the Lake Retreat. It was like having an entire estate to ourselves! The front deck is a morning sun trap and the rear deck is perfect for evening drinks. And when youve had enough of everyone, the island is a perfect retreat with a beer and a book. The kitchen was excellently equipped which was really important as we had a sever ely disabled family member so superb for cooking in. Everything was really comfortable and well thought out and we were sad to come home!
Tracy
What a beautiful holiday home - we didnt want to leave! The house has everything you need and is well designed to make the most of its surroundings. The dog loved the garden & the lake & there are walks right from the front door. The fishing lake gave us the opportunity to have a go & in total we caught 4 carp during the week. Would recommend it! P lace is in middle of nowhere with no shops nearby so go prepared. The road to it is a track & bumpy in places. Cant wait to return!
Gail
Stunning location for a real retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The accommodation is very comfortable and the owners have thought of everything you could need. This was our second visit and we will definitely be back again.
Barbara
Perfect stay at Lake Retreat. Soooo peaceful. It is comfortable and very well equipped. The beds were very comfy. The Prosecco, chocolates and milk on arrival were very welcome. The accommodation fitted our group perfectly having 2 rooms downstairs and was also perfect for our noise sensitive dog who loved roaming freely around the lake. The owners have thought of everything. Hot tub was great. Theres even a paddle board to use. Would definitely love to return
Emma
I would highly recommend The Lake Retreat. Such a beautiful setting to have a lovely relaxing stay. The lodge was very clean, bright & airy. The utility room has everything in it from washing machine, ironing board, iron, to family games. There was a paddle board that you could use on the lake. Outside space was beautiful including a little fire pi t & BBQ. Its not near any local amenities so you do have to drive to pick up some milk for example, but that didnt bother us. A wonderful place :-)
Clare
From start to finish, we had the most fantastic stay at such a beautiful place. Cannot recommend highly enough. Fantastic hosts and the most tranquil place to stay. Booking again for next year!
Steven
We have stayed in many places however this lodge is by far the best. Mike visited once to check we were OK then left us to it. We stayed for a weekend visit but it definitely wasnt longer enough so already the four of us are arranging time off work so we can arrange another visit later in the year. It you want somewhere peaceful where you can fish, walk, relax and unwind in a hot tub this is the place to stay. We recommend visiting The Arscott Arms at Bude for a Sunday lunch. The Hot Tubbies

So weve been back exactly 1 week now and how we all miss this little gem. If its peace and quiet youre after then this is the place. The property is situated literally in the middle of the countryside. Apart from leaving the property to go to the nearest village 5 miles away or for dog walks in Bude, we never saw anybody. A thoroughly enjoyable sta y and we will definitely return as and when availability suits both. The hot tub is beautiful and the property is so relaxing with the log burner!!
Luke
We had a great weekend stay at Lake Retreat. The lodge itself is lovely, and always a toasty warm temperature, especially with the log burner on. The view of the lake is spectacular and the hot tub just makes this extra special. Also being the only people in sight was very enjoyable. The hosts were brilliant! They were always there if we needed any thing and also Mike did visit once to see if things were going well. Would highly recommend to everyone.
Neil
We had the best long weekend at the Lake Retreat! The space was great and beds comfy! Peace and quiet of the middle of nowhere with all the amenities you could need
paula
Absolutely stunning. If you are looking for a real 'get away from it all' look no further. The property had everything you could need or want from screwdrivers to tea lights ! The location is remote but was perfect for us. Looking out to your own private lake was absolutely heavenly and can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer. Owner Mike was extremely helpful but left us to it. All in all can't wait to go back
Vicky
What an absolutely stunning retreat, it has everything you need to just unwind. The owner was on hand if we needed anything but equally just left us to it. It was fantastic for our dog too, with a lovely woodland walk marked out. We also took a walk over at the local reservoir which was lovely (it's a 13 mile walk round - so either prepare or plan a shorter walk!) The hot tub, lake (with a paddle board provided) and log burner are fantastic extras. I'd highly recommend this place!
Kelly
Absolutely perfect. We already want to book to come back in the new year. Thank you
