Oakwood Reviews

A beautifully situated cottage would definitely recommend it and we will be returning in the near future
Joseph
Absolutely stunning and well presented place couldnt fault the stay. me and my wife prefered it to some of our trips abroad, we will definitely make this an annual visit
Fantastic location great facilities. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday.
We had an amazing stay at Oakwood and would definitely return. Stunning location, clean, spacious and an incredible wood fired hot tub. 10 mins to beautiful Polkerris beach for stand up paddle boarding and lunch at the fantastic Sams on the Beach. Highly recommend. Remember to take your own toilet roll, only 2 rolls provided.
We really enjoyed our stay at Oakwood, quiet and peaceful and situated near to all the places and very nice beaches we wanted to visit. The lodge itself is great, home from home with all the comforts you need. Love the views from the decking, hot tub is great, thanks again Steve for your help and nice to meet you. You've done a great job with this place and I would 100 percent recommend this to anyone. Nice touch on the welcome gift, gin and tonic and scones were great. There is nothing to question or dislike about this place. 10 out of 10 and will book again for sure. thanks Steve and Sophie!

Could not ask for more. Beautiful setting, had everything you could possibly need in a holiday home. Spotlessly clean.
Edwina
From the minute you enter Oakwood Lodge you switch off and start to enjoy your holiday. The welcome basket was much appreciated with a well deserved gin and tonic after the long drive. The hot tub was a bonus. Then retiring to your comfortable bed, to wake up to the most amazing views take your binoculars for the birdlife. Fantastic holiday with lovely accomadation.
Adrian
Amazing place with wonderful view of field and woodland with resident buzzards which were a permanent fixture. Property was brilliant with great access to beaches and attractions. We would overwhelmingly recommend it.
Daniel
The property overlooks a secluded wooded area, with breathtaking views of the sunset from within the hot tub. I didnt know much about wood fired hot tubs prior to this trip, however I now know they arent like the more common variety. I rather enjoyed the process of building up the fire and maintaining it, in order to get the water to the right temperature. I could imagine that others might not embrace this process as much, but I always found the end result, of red hot relaxing waters, to be worth the effort. When eating in, we made use of the gas BBQ, which Steve kindly set up for us, then dined al fresco on the decking. Our two young boys loved the set up. I managed several 10km runs from the location, through the picturesque Cornwall countryside. Which considering the consumption of rich food and local Cornish beer, provided some much needed balance. I supposed my only very small grumble would be the 9am checkout time, which just felt slightly early. We prepped the night before and packed etc, however two young boys dont always follow the guidance given to them, so it was still a mad rush in the morning. Since returning home, the boys havent stopped talking about our holiday away in Cornwall and it will most definitely go down as our favourite family UK trip.
Caroline
Very peaceful and quiet setting. Comfortable, with good facilities. Hot tub is wood fired and can take several hours of attendance to get to a suitable temperature. Would have liked some paper kitchen towel and enough toilet rolls for the week.
Adrian
Stayed here for 7 nights with my wife and 3 children. We arrived quite late due to a bad journey up from Kent and was very pleasantly suprised when we walked into Oakwood. Spotlessly clean, very well maintained and very spacious. Opened the curtains the following day for an amazing view of the woodland with various wildlife running aound the grass. The log burner and wood fired hot tub were a fantastic addition! Sophie and Steve were both extremely helpful and friendly and both went out their way to help me when my drone crashlanded itself into a tree! Oakwood is in great location with lots of beautiful beaches and towns not to far away! We will definitely be returning hopefully very soon!
Hayley
My partner and I picked this as a little get away for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! The lodge is beautiful, amazing views and had everything we needed! The welcome package was SO well received after our long drive, its clear the owners, Sophie and Steve, really care about their guests and their experience! Perfectly decked out for everyone especially familys, and plenty of information to guide our stay! We will definitely come back here! A day spent reading looking out over the woodlands with the fire burning was the most relaxing things Ive done in a long time! Thank you!!
We had a brilliant weeks holiday at Oakwood. The location is great to completely chill and enjoy nature with the woodland below. The cottage was exceedingly clean and very well supplied a true home from home. The hot tub was a real luxury, and against our initial doubts, heated up very quickly and to a very hot temperature. The gift basket was very much appreciated, especially after a long journey and arriving too late to pick up supplies. We'd definitely recommend staying here for a great holiday. Thank you
Probably the best equipped holiday let that we have stayed in. We love to cook and there was everything you needed and more. Fantastic arrival welcome tray thank you Sophie. Excellent base for walking in Cornwall and wonderful to come home to the comfort of the lodge and the hot tub. Would return.
Wonderful and very comfortable lodge in a lovely peaceful setting. Just what we needed. Would highly recommend.
Stephen
Fab location and very clean and tidy. Wildlife and birds weee great including the barn o l every evening. Hot hob was such fun. The only downfall was the mobile reception non existent so had to rely on WiFi to plan our days out but that was atrocious, so had to go out for lunch everyday to find WiFi and organise our trips cost me a fortune! Seriously our stay was great and have already booked to come back in September hopefully the WiFi will be working.
Lovely property, very modern and clean. Especially loved the hot tub and the welcome goodies
Stephen
Super property to have holiday break in Cornwall. Excellent facilities and eco hot tub was, for is, the jewel in the crown. We would have no hesitation in recommending Oakwood. Steve and Sophie do a great job.
This place is a little gem its nice and secluded very clean and modern ... This place is a little gem its nice and secluded very clean and modern everything you need didnt want to go home lots of places to visit and come back to a lovely place to relax
Summer
Had a pleasant stay at the Oakwood lodge, it reached all my expectations and was a nice comfortable stay for our party of 6. The lodge was lovely and clean when we arrived, beds were comfortable and the view was bliss. The hot tub was perfect, comfortable seated 6 people as advertised. We brought our Dog and there was a perfect amount of landwoods for him to enjoy himself too. I would come back to Oakwood lodge and I definitely would recommended for others. Thank you Sophie for a lovely winter lodge getaway.
Oakwood is in a beautiful, peaceful location. There were 4 adults, 2 children 13 & 10 and two large dogs staying at Oakwood and there was plenty of space for us all. It was clean, private and comfortable. We had lots of day trips exploring the local area and did many walks along the coastal path. It was lovely to come back to the hot tub in the evening and just stare out over the trees listening to the owls and surrounding wildlife. Although we went in summer I can imagine it to be very cosy in winter with the log fire and beautiful in autumn seeing the all the trees turn colour. It was the perfect place for our family holiday. Thank you
What a fabulous place this is, booked pre pandemic and then postponed to June this year, we couldn't really have picked a better week the weather was fantastic! ! The lodge was really well equipped and the views across the woodland were stunning. I did also manage to see the deer one morning in the meadow. The cream tea, Gin and Vodka were a really nice touch on arrival and I really enjoyed them, thank you Sophie Our two dogs loved it so much they kept trying to escape into the woods for their own exploration, the only downside we had with the dogs was that our youngest one kept trying to run off across the road at the back of the lodge, if I would suggest anything it would be a fenced area to let them out to prevent them from escaping whilst we enjoyed the added bonus of the wood fired hot tub. We visited Eden, Tintagel, Perranporth, Par Sands, Fowey, Lostwithiel and Caerhays in our week, our favourite place was the beach at Caerhays. The Beds were comfortable and after all our walking each day we slept well. The only thing I would say is that the hot tub cleaning process that seemed to kick in between 2 and 4am every morning did wake me up with the bedroom window open, however, it did not seem to affect my partner!! My daughter, boyfriend and baby tagged along and there was plenty of room for the travel cot in the master bedroom, the washing machine was a really useful addition with a baby. Overall Oakwood was a home from home with everything you could possibly need for a fabulous week away and we would definitely stay again. The hot tub area was not fenced off against the steep bank which i could see may be a problem if you had had a few of the gins but I'm sure this was work in progress as the area was so new.
Charlotte
Beautiful setting and lodge so modern with all facilities you could ask for! New addition of the hot tub was brilliant definitely recommend to anyone. The view was amazing and so peaceful.
Just had an excellent week at Oakwood. The hot tub was an amazing surprise and we didnt get out of it in the evenings. Lovely to sit in whilst the sun went down and the stars came out. The chalet was immaculately clean when we arrived. The location is great our boys lived exploring the woods and it is only a short drive to closest beach. Would definitely return .
The accommodation was very good although to be excellent you would need to have provided a tumble dryer inside the property. We were very unfortunate with the weather & using the washing machine was impossible since we wouldn't have been able to dry things afterwards. The sofas were not at all comfortable, which was the other reason I did not score the accommodation higher. Both the sofas & some furniture & fittings are beginning to look tired. In contrast the bed & pillows were very comfortable & combined with the quiet location, we slept well! The accommodation was wellequipped & clean & in a pleasant, rural location overlooking a small forest & fields. There is a pleasing sittingout balcony, although we did not get a single opportunity to use it because of the poor weather, which was disappointing.
Carly-anne
We absolutely loved staying here, it is quiet and private. The accommodation itself was bright and cosy with the log fire. The hotub was just the icing on the cake. We will definitely be returning!
This was a really enjoyable holiday with total peace out in the countryside. Access was down a single track tarmac road normally used by farm vehicles though not enough to disturb too much. The cottage was very clean and well maintained with some lovely complimentary items included. Our young dog really enjoyed running around the field outside as well as investigating the woods close by. The view over the valley was lovely and the autumn colours of the leaves was a sight to behold. The location is also ideal for popping out on beach days with a number of beaches and towns within easy travel. We are very likely to book the cottage again.
Esther
Beautiful lodge, lovely and clean, all the little bits were lovely. .. single beds could of had a thicker mattress but above all, we loved it and would defiantly recommend the lodge
Amanda
Absolutely lovely place to spend a week, lodge is well kitted out throughout. Weather was fantastic and the outside space is perfect for sunbathing and for our dogs to roam around safely. Would definitely go back
Fabulous place! Comfortable and spotless
This was the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. facilities were exceptional and comfort of the beds was great. fantastic outlook on the tree tops.
Oakwood is an idyllic hideaway. We spent hours sitting on the veranda looking at the view and would not hesitate to book this property again. Thank you. N.B. Very happy for you to publish our feedback, but please do not use our full name, please use something like Mrs D, Devon Thanks.
Fabulous cottage, really beautiful, clean and comfortable with lovely extras arrived to a cream tea and gin and tonic. Location is so peaceful and really well located for so many local attractions. Thank you for a special break, we definitely recommend Oakwood and would love to visit again.
A peaceful, rural, extremely quiet & dark at night location. ..just what me, my daughter & our dog needed. Only the sounds of the wildlife, birdsong with the occasional tractor and train well in the distance at St Blazey! The night sky, when clear, was fascinating & so beautiful. Oakwood had everything provided, & I mean everything! The kitchen was better equipped than at home! It was clean, spacious & very comfortable. The outside decking area was wonderful. The welcome tray was a lovely thought, as were the fresh flowers. I cannot honestly think of any negative aspect to our stay. I am disabled with limited mobility, using 2 crutches to walk. I could access the property using the front steps and those at the side in the decking I wasn't fast but I could hold onto the door frame and decking to get myself in and up. We would recommend Oakwood to anyone, family & friends. We hope to return early next year. A big thank you for making our holiday so perfect.
Oakwood is a fabulous base from which you can explore Cornwall. Its setting in fields and woodland is perfect for those who love the countryside. We enjoyed morning walks with our dogs through the private woodland and fields. At night, Oakwood is perfect for those who love stargazing. Sitting on the decking, staring at the stars with a glass of wine in hand is the perfect end to a day!! Oakwood itself is beautifully clean, well equipped and furnished. The welcoming cream teas & gin & tonic are a lovely touch too!
Nice property in a countryside setting basically furnished, but reasonably functional, the main drawback is fridge space, it sleeps 6 and is a little way from shops but the fridge is too small to store much. There is space for a free standing fridge freezer. Also we had a leaking kettle which took a while to replace and the toaster had only 2 slots working. Beds ok but a little soft I personally would have liked a bedside table. Coat hooks would be useful inside front door. Also it is down extremely narrow lanes so if you have problems reversing its not for you! Owners Response There is now also a free standing fridgefreezer in place
Patricia
Excellent accommodation exactly as described. Only one small thing a bigger fridge would be good as you are in a remote area .
Oakwood was wonderful. It was very quiet and peaceful with lots of wildlife buzzards, stoats and rabbits but unfortunately no deer! The house was very clean and well equipped, though the fridge was quite small. The bed was very comfortable. I would recommend this property.
Geoffrey
Superb. Much larger than we had expected the photos don't do it justice. Location was just perfect for us quiet, nice woodland view with occasional wildlife, and good location for east Cornwall and west Devon sitestosee. The long narrow lane entry is a major part of Cornish holidays for me and adds to the 'out of the way' atmosphere. All utensils in the kitchen, and the bedlinen and towels were of high quality quite a rarity these days, sadly. The welcome pack including a full cream tea and enough teas, coffee and other bits to get us going, were a real special touch. If I had to be picky I would say the fridge is a bit limited for a place far enough away from shops that daily shopping is not practical if you have a group with an appetite. Its a minor point for those for eat out more, and it certainly won't stop me coming back when I have another reason for enduring the M4M5.
