Situated in the heart of the Exmoor National Park and with meandering footpaths from the front door, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will love exploring the acres of surrounding countryside. Welcoming four guests and two canine chums, set off from the barn and explore dramatic chalk cliffs and swim at pretty beaches dotted along the coast, before returning to relax amongst elegant furnishings and contemporary style at this charming home from home.

With flagged floors and cream walls complemented by high ceilings and exposed beams, this detached barn conversion is bursting with warmth and character. Open the French doors to the garden from the lounge/diner and enjoy home cooked meals with the fresh air breezing in.

For those cooler evenings, light the wood burner and settle down with a bottle of wine and a film. Wake rejuvenated in the bright bedrooms and take your morning coffee to the large decking area, listening to the hum of the wildlife and early birdsong.

In the evenings, fire up the BBQ and/ or the outside wood burner with cooking facilities to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining as the children and dogs play on the lawn. Or relax and star gaze in the newly fitted wood fired hot tub.

Find a shop/post office and pub in Challacombe village (1 mile) and follow the footpath through ancient woodland to its lovely little church. Enjoy the sandy beaches on Devon s north coast, including Woolacombe (16 miles), Saunton (20 miles) and Croyde (19 miles), or follow the South West Coast Path to discover hidden coves and the little of villages of Combe Martin (8 miles), Lynton and Lynmouth (both 11 miles).

Try paddleboarding, coasteering, surfing and kayaking with Active Escape (10.5 miles) while family days out can be had at Exmoor Zoo (3 miles) and Watermouth Castle (11 miles) with its family friendly attractions.

Lovely, warm and welcoming holiday home in an excellent location for exploring the area. The cottage was well equipped and had very comfortable beds. The village pub was an easy walk, very dog (and human) friendly and had an excellent menu - the mussels were superb. Our favourite walk was to Heddon's Mouth and we also enjoyed the circuit around WisRead moretlandpound Reservoire. We'd definitely be happy to return. Hide

Exmoor Zoo is described as a "family zoo" on their website and it certainly makes a great day out for families.  There are many exotic and rare animals as well as birds to see which are living in natural surroundings.  Some recent improvements at the zoo include a new 5 metre tower at the cheetahs and raised walkways at the "beast".  There is also a new viewing platform over the sitatunga.  As well as the amazing animals to experience there are regular fun activities such as face painting, daily events and zoo trails.
