About Swincombe Mill Challacombe

Situated in the heart of the Exmoor National Park and with meandering footpaths from the front door, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will love exploring the acres of surrounding countryside. Welcoming four guests and two canine chums, set off from the barn and explore dramatic chalk cliffs and swim at pretty beaches dotted along the coast, before returning to relax amongst elegant furnishings and contemporary style at this charming home from home.

With flagged floors and cream walls complemented by high ceilings and exposed beams, this detached barn conversion is bursting with warmth and character. Open the French doors to the garden from the lounge/diner and enjoy home cooked meals with the fresh air breezing in.

For those cooler evenings, light the wood burner and settle down with a bottle of wine and a film. Wake rejuvenated in the bright bedrooms and take your morning coffee to the large decking area, listening to the hum of the wildlife and early birdsong.

In the evenings, fire up the BBQ and/ or the outside wood burner with cooking facilities to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining as the children and dogs play on the lawn. Or relax and star gaze in the newly fitted wood fired hot tub.

Find a shop/post office and pub in Challacombe village (1 mile) and follow the footpath through ancient woodland to its lovely little church. Enjoy the sandy beaches on Devon s north coast, including Woolacombe (16 miles), Saunton (20 miles) and Croyde (19 miles), or follow the South West Coast Path to discover hidden coves and the little of villages of Combe Martin (8 miles), Lynton and Lynmouth (both 11 miles).

Try paddleboarding, coasteering, surfing and kayaking with Active Escape (10.5 miles) while family days out can be had at Exmoor Zoo (3 miles) and Watermouth Castle (11 miles) with its family friendly attractions.

The Cottage was spacious, fully equipped, comfy and warm and set in beautiful surroundings. The utility area was great space for wet dogs to dry off before they snuggled up in front of the log burner. Comfortable getaway from it all. Lindsay and Mark were great hosts and we enjoyed a wonderful stay. Being able to access the moors from the farm was a plus as is the Black Venus pub.

I've been coming to Swincombe Mill for years and I love it. So comfortable, it has everything you could need and the new features coming soon will make it even better. It's perfectly situated for getting around Exmoor and just as nice for hunkering down with a glass of wine and a good book.

A fantastic few days holiday on Exmoor. The Old Mill was a perfect location to easily travel to many lovely walks such as Heddon Valley and Tarr Steps. Stunning accommodation, two large bedrooms, nice big kitchen and large lounge. Great location, don't be put off by being on a working farm, its a huge estate, never heard any other noise from the actual farm.

The holiday was brilliant. Both of us loved it and the dogs as well. The place was huge and bright even on some of the dull days. Hopefully will book again next year. There is plenty of walks within a 20 minute drive and Woolacombe beach was a fab day out

Cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday. It is a large cottage and comfortably sleeps 4. Loads of hot water and ample towels etc provided. Appreciated the lemon drizzle cake welcome gift. Would definitely recommend if visiting this part of Devon

An umbrella for the garden furniture would be useful. Advance notice should be given that only the EE mobile network covers the cottage and most of the North Devon area that we visited. Exmoor Zoo is described as a "family zoo" on their website and it certainly makes a great day out for families.  There are many exotic and rare animals as well as birds to see which are living in natural surroundings.  Some recent improvements at the zoo include a new 5 metre tower at the cheetahs and raised walkways at the "beast".  There is also a new viewing platform over the sitatunga.  As well as the amazing animals to experience there are regular fun activities such as face painting, daily events and zoo trails.
Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park - EX34 0NG

Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park  is a big hit with families and has a wonderful setting within 26 acres of Sub Tropical grounds. During a stroll around the site you will encounter so of the worlds most endangered animals and also take a peek back to prehistoric times when Dinosaurs roamed the earth. The park is home to the worlds only full size animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex as well as Lions, Wolves, Sea Lions, Meerkats and many other species, Top attractions include the amazing Sea Lion Shows, Falconry Display and Sea Lion Swims.

North Devon Farm Park is a haven for wildlife and has a fantastic location making it the perfect place for a day out during the summertime. As well as gorgeous scenery, picnic areas and plenty of space for children to play the park offers a Play Area, Tea Room serving local produce, a Petting Zoo where little ones will love meeting the affectionate animals and Nature tTails.
