About Chestnut Tree Barns

Chestnut Tree Barns is a charming property of two cottages and a first-floor apartment near Ilketshall St. Margaret, Suffolk.

This pet-friendly property boasts two hot tubs, barbecue, two woodburning stoves, furnished balcony, and a one acre, fully fenced dog paddock – with designated, off-road parking for four cars and ample roadside parking available, Chestnut Tree Barns is an idyllic base for a family or group of friends on a countryside getaway in Suffolk. Return from a scenic stroll through the roaring country hills to your new haven, with your choice of an open-plan living space or two living/diners to kick up your well-trekked feet in.

Whip up a scrumptious supper with help from electric cookers, induction hob, microwaves, fridges, fridge/freezer, and gas barbecue, then dine at intimate dining tables or alfresco in the enclosed garden. Toss your plates to the dishwasher and utilise the two hot tubs for a bubbling message as the sun falls into the hills.

Rinse off in two en-suites or three bathrooms as the washing machine takes care of your laundry, before cosying up by the woodburning stoves with a film on the Smart TV. When sleep calls, answer in a ground-floor double, king-size, double, or twin bed eager to catch you.

Soak up your local surroundings with a scenic stroll up to River Waveney, explore Bigod Castle, and grab some pub grub at the Huntsman & Hounds PH. Venture a little further afield for Southwold to attempt the Southwold Maize Maze, walk Southwold Pier down to Southwold Lighthouse, and indulge in a beach day at Southwold Beach.

Take that short drive to Norwich for The Plantation Garden, admire the artwork at the Sainsbury Centre, and catch an evening show at Norwich Theatre Royal. Adventures await for the whole family when you book a stay at Chestnut Tree Barns.

Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 9 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 12 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 19 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 20 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 21 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 25 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 25 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
