After a day of adventuring on the hills, why not sizzle up some supper on the barbecue and dine alfresco in the outdoor area, where you can take in the views across the majestic Cumbrian Fells. When the evening chill starts to draw in, pop your plates in the dishwasher and hop in the hot tub for a warm, bubbling front-row seat to admire the sun sinking behind Maiden Moor.

Freshen up in the shower room before cosying up with a film on the Smart TV, then welcome sleep in a double or four-poster king-size bed. The winding country lanes offer walking and cycling opportunities and, for the more energetic, the nearby Fells of Catbells, High Crags, Scafell, Skiddaw, Glaramara and the famous Great Gable.

Water pursuits at nearby Derwentwater, with equipment available to hire in Portinscale, one mile north, make this an ideal location for those who enjoy an active lifestyle. The tranquil setting is only a short drive from the delights of Keswick where you will find a selection of amenities and attractions including the Derwent Pencil Museum, Puzzling Place and the Castlerigg Stone Circle.

Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 8 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 9 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 9 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 25 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 26 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 29 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
