High Rigg Shepherd's Hideaway Reviews

Andrew
We really enjoyed our stay there, it was lovely and tranquil and secluded, just what we needed for a short break to recharge. I have to be honest, the place is lovely and clean and the gesture of a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and 2 very excellent Shepard's pies was amazing, butit was a little tricky managing the lavatory, as, if youre tallwell its a little cramped in there shall we say. But I dont want to detract from the stay, and its a really lovely place. If there was one other thing to recommend to the owners, perhaps trim the tree that over hangs the tin roof? We had some wind and the resulting scratching scared the hell out of us until we realised it wasnt a wild bear attack!
Kieran
The perfect getaway We loved the Shepard's hut and hot tub and the views were amazing, pictures do not do it justice We loved exploring the local area and everyone we dealt with was kind and knowledgeable Thankyou we will be back! It really was special
Tracie
Thank you. It was the perfect get away. Directions were clear and the hut was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Entering through the magical walkway to the view was a wow! moment, that made me stop in my tracks and instantly felt relaxed. We will definitely be back
Hayley
The location is idyllic, really peaceful with stunning views. The only sounds are the murmuring from the hot tub and birds tweeting. When we got there the fridge held a lovely surprise of 2 individual locally made shepherds pies and a bottle of fizz which was a lovely welcome. We stayed for 3 nights taking in local walks and runs, of which there are plenty so could return time and time again and still have plenty of new walks to do. Its the perfect peaceful getaway and well definitely be back
Vanessa
Lovely place , very well maintained, gardens and generally looks really good. Accommodation was perfect, very comfortable and clean. Nice little touch of a shepherds pie and a bottle of fizz. Hot tub and outside area was clean and well maintained. We met David the owner, nice friendly gentleman. Nice surrounding area, very nice garden centre to visit. Would certainly recommend this place, we had a lovely break in peaceful surroundings.
Lovely people and very helpful. Lovely clean bedding. Beautiful scenery.
Absolutely loved our stay here. Its the fourth time we have been and it never disappoints. Huts are well spread out so feels private and can spend time alone. Huts want for nothing and are warm and cosy. Hot tub is absolute selling point and reason we keep coming back.
A little haven hidden away and so glad we found it. Beautiful inside and out and so peaceful that we really were able to switch off and relax, we really hope to return. It was clean, cosy and well equipped with a beautiful view as an added bonus. The directions were clear and easy to follow which made the journey over stress free. Everything was great and have already recommended it to other people.

Both myself and my partner had a lovely time and would thoroughly recommend staying at this place High Rigg Shepherds cottage It was so peaceful and private and was just perfect for what we were looking for and as a bonus we got to see the Aurora Borealis which just made our stay more perfect If you are looking for a place that is quiet, comfortable with lovely views and need to get away from it all then this is the place for you. There are plenty of places to visit by car in the surrounding areas that will keep you busy We did a lot of walking with our Dog Mia and she also thoroughly enjoyed it and lost weight in the process She needed it lol We recommend this beautiful place 100
An amazing place! The 2nd time we have been. The owners are very accomodating, and the customer service is exceptional! We love this place so much and was so sad when it came to us leaving! We will be back. Thank you
Cant find any fault in the Shepard's hut or its surroundings. Was one of the best places I stayed in years
This far exceeded our expectations even though we didn't know what to expect. The accommodation was the perfect size for me my partner and our dog. There was everything we needed including a doggie bed and towel. The staff were polite and helpful and on hand if needed, The views were lovely I loved how it was down a cute lit path, proper little hideaway. The hot tub was great and we will definitely be coming back. The pies and wine in the fridge were such a lovely touch and have no influence on my views haha.
Andrew
2nd visit here and I'm sure we will be back, we booked this particular hut as it's the most secluded and has great views! It was very clean and you could tell the owners keep on top of things. The hot tub was very relaxing and we used the outdoor log burner and the inside one, they provide some logs which was great, no matches though. Dean was very helpful when I stupidly couldn't turn the hob on. VERY easy check in process, a code is supplied for a key box, so you don't have to see or talk to anybody.
Great hosts Dave and Brenda nothing was too much trouble, very helpful. The Shepherds hut was very comfortable and well equipped. Fantastic views and an awesome hot tub. Would definitely go there on holiday again.

This is an excellent location to spend several days relaxing and recharging your batteries. The hut is beautiful and everything you need for your stay is cratered for. The owners are so friendly if you need anything and helped straightaway when we had a problem with our car. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The hut and hot tub area were clean and nicely decorated with everything we needed. We stayed in the Shepherds Hideaway hut and we couldnt see anyone else from where we were other than the cows. Its worth noting that youre only supplied with 1 toilet roll so take your own if youre there for a few days like we were.
Astyne
Beautiful secluded location, perfect for a romantic trip away. I stayed three nights with my partner and we had an amazing time. The hut was cosy and decorated beautifully. The hot tub was clean and the views where stunning. We will definitely be visiting again.
Michael
I would like to thank the owners for helping us out of a jam when we got stuck in the mud by helping me push the car out. very helpful and gives us some ideas of where to visit. really enjoyed our stay.
The hut was as advertised which is rarity nowadays. Appreciated the welcome food and drink after long journey and being stuck in jams on motorway. Despite the changeable weather we were snug and secure in the hut. The weather prevented us from utilising the decking and jacuzzi as we would have wished. We will be back and maybe bring good weather with us.
If you want the perfect romanticrelaxing hide away this is the place to go . ... the cabin was amazing, the sunset views from the hottub was just something else !... can't wait to return beautiful place .. oh and can't forget the fresh home made shepherds pie amazing all round few days away 28th June 24

Thank you, a wonderful setting
Alistair
Amazing hidden gem! Would highly recommend if youre looking for a chilled relaxing getaway! The pictures dont do the views justice at this place especially if youre lucky enough to get a clear evening. Dinner out on the decking and relaxing in the amazing hot tub while staring out across the amazing countryside is just bliss. Only sounds youll hear are that of the birds, sheep and cows!
Michelle
We had a fabulous stay, everything you could need at this property for a short stay. The hut had amazing views and the shepherd's pie and bottle of fizz was excellent.
The best weekend getaway I've ever had. We were speechless when we arrived at how beautiful the whole settingview was. Incredibly cosy, clean and warm atmosphere with everything you need for your stay. Lovely garden for the dog and the view was to die for. The hot tub was just cherry on top. The owners were so welcoming and kind the complimentary bubbels and pies were a delight! We had an absolute joy of a time and would come back here without a second thought. Absolutely amazing 10 stars thank you for an incredible stay!
Absolutely would recommend anybody to stay if your after some alone time in a relaxed environment.
Sylvia
What a lovely little find this was! We were blessed with beautiful weather throughout which added to the beauty of the place. The views from Shepherd's hideaway are stunning, we could have been in Tuscany. Beautiful sunsets, so private and peaceful. If you are looking for a total chll, this is ideal. Jacuzzi was well maintained and great for relaxing. Beautiful hut with its own dentity. Has everything you need. Surrounding countryside is gorgeous and nice 17th century pub a walk away, 0.5miles. Owners were lovely. Thank you for the sweet little touch of pies and fizz on arrival. Yes Yes Yes we would return.
Joanne
Beautifully decorated shepherds hut with stunning views. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Shepherds pie and bubbles awaiting in the fridge. Hot tub was perfect, even the northern lights made an appearance. Have already recommended to friends and will almost definitely revisit.

We had a fantastic week and were sad to be leaving. ..can not recommend this lovely gem of a getaway enough!! A little confusion from the directions at the last hurdle finding High Rigg but youll get there
Natasha
This was truely the most tranquil setting , my daughter and I had a wonderful stay . . from the moment we arrived to freshly made locally supplied shepherds pie we was sold . This location is great for those who love to go hiking or for those who just want peace and relaxation. Its within short driving distance to many historical sites .. the lakes arent a million miles away and worth the drive down especially the waterfalls . We ate in the local inn on our last evening , it was delicious and the staff are so friendly . I wish to return already .. Im seriously so sad I returned home I can only imagine the northern lights where a real treat from shepherds sunset hide away view too . Can not thank the family enough for allowing our crazy dog along too.. he had such an adventure.
We really enjoyed our stay at Shepherds Hideaway it was so peaceful with stunning views . The property is so cosy with everything you need and the hot tub was amazing with views across the fields . We find High Rigg a perfect place to stay very private and quiet we will definitely be back to stay again also the hosts left us a delicious homemade shepherds pie and bottle of fizz to enjoy on our arrival such a lovely gesture Thankyou so much
We had an amazing time the location was beautiful, the accommodation was clean, comfy and cosy. The hottub was gorgeous despite the rain. The shepherd's pies on arrival were a wonderful touch and were delicious. Overall we had a relaxing weekend and will.definitely be returning, simply stunning .
What a lovely place, literally cant fault anything
We loved this property, everything about it. Everything was thought of, we were both so sad to leave on the last morning. On arrival there was a procesco and pie in the fridge. The lodge is so cosy. We were lucky as we had great weather which helped. It was easy to get around locally, not too far from anywhere but no neighbours really really close. We will be back!!
Callum
WHAT A PLACE! !!! This small family run business is certainly one to look out for. The location itself is magnificent, with amazing views! We stayed for 3 nights, and it was just perfect. The hot tub is definitely the thing that captures people for these types of getaways. Enough cannot be said for the location, or the family that run these hideaways. If you want a private getaway this would be the one. I was so impressed with the cleanliness, the overall look of the lodge. We had everything we need. The owners were excellent always there for us when we needed them. It is an easy drive into the Lake District for walks, and site seeing. Not to mention the views themself from the lodge. Its quiet, its private, it unique. I would recommend this lodge to anyone! If you want to relax on some annual leave, or you just want a break, this is the place. I will certainly be coming back, to explore even more. Family run businesses are too and far between nowadays, but this one hits the spot, it just shows there are still small businesses who care!!! Get yourself down to the hideaway and lodges, you will not be disappointed! I just want to say a massive thank you to the family that run this, we had an excellent time, and really wish them all the best.
Ashley

Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 7 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 22 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 23 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 24 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
