The Studio At Stackwood Reviews

Emma
Big thanks to the hosts for making our stay in Gilgarran so lovely. The studio was super cosy and in a peaceful village, perfect for relaxing. We loved exploring the many walks nearby, suitable for everyone. St Bees and Whitehaven are just a short drive for those beautiful coastal views. Plus, all the local pubs welcomed our dog and had plenty of tasty options. We’d definitely come back!

We had a pretty decent stay overall. The place was mostly clean, though a few spots were missed. No iron or ironing board, which was a bit inconvenient, but everything else like towels was there. The robes felt a little damp, so we skipped those. A hairdryer would’ve been handy since we forgot ours. The pool access from 5-7pm was lovelyand the views around the studio are stunning. No shops nearby, so you need to drive for everything. We enjoyed it and would come back!
Alex Taylor
We stayed in Gilgarran for a few days with our dachshund and really enjoyed it. The owners were super helpful and friendly, making us feel welcome. The shared garden was perfect for the dog to playand the studio had everything we needed after long walks. The location is really peaceful and quiet, ideal for relaxing. The place was spotless and spacious enough for two. Would definitely come back!
Oliver
We loved the cosy feel of the place, with fantastic views over the fields and easy access to the lakes. The studio is thoughtfully kitted out with a comfy bed, fridge, freezerand a smart TV with loads of apps-perfect for rainy days. Having the pool, saunaand jacuzzi right there was a real bonus, so no bath needed! It’s super peaceful, no neighbours nearbyand our dog had a brill time too. Definitely coming back!
James
Absolutely loved our stay! The place was perfect for what we neededand spotting those adorable red squirrels was such a bonus. Thanks for a wonderful week!
Oliver

We honestly had a great time staying at the studio in Stackwood. The location’s peaceful and the view from the window is just stunning - I even spotted a red squirrel! The place is super cosy and the bed is really comfy. We loved the hot tub and sauna, it’s such a nice touch. Check-in was smoothand we appreciated the privacy, but the host was always quick to respond if we needed anything. Definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway!

Big thanks to Helen for making our stay so lovely! The place is really cosy and well-keptand she’s genuinely one of the warmest hosts we’ve come across. The spa facilities were a real treat after days out exploring. Perfect spot for heading into the Lake District. Julian’s tips on hiking Scafell Pike were spot on, too. Ohand the kebabs in Workington are a must! Gilgarran is a quiet little village, a bit tricky to find, but definitely worth it if you want peace and quiet. Highly recommend staying here!
Emma
Really enjoyed our weekend here! The place feels cosy but has that wow factor, especially with the private pool, saunaand jacuzzi. Perfect for escaping and relaxing. Would definitely recommend it for a quick getaway. We loved it!

Waking up to sheep grazing and colourful querriels climbing was charming. We explored places we’d never been before. The stairs were a bit tricky, as our dog slipped on the first day, but luckily it was fine. The locals were really friendly, which made our stay even better.
Emma Clarke
We loved our stay at The Studio in Stackwood. It’s in a tranquil spot, perfect for escaping busy daysand super close to the Lakes and coast. The pool, saunaand hot tub in the evenings were a real treat. The owners are lovely and really helpful. Definitely a great base for exploring the Lake District and beyond!
Emma
We really enjoyed our stay! The studio was spotless and felt super cosy, perfect for unwinding. The owners were warm and friendly, which made us feel right at home. Just a heads up-there’s no pub or shop in the village, the nearest co-op’s a mile away, but only 5 mins by car to a Spar, Starbucks, Greggsand Burger King. Workington’s about 10 minutes drive with lots of shops and a lovely vibe.
Sam
We had a lovely stay here. The location is perfect, peaceful and scenic. The rooms were spotless and super comfy, making for great sleep. After hiking, relaxing in the pool, saunaand hot tub was just what we needed. Can't wait to return!
Martin
Honestly, for what we paid, it wasn’t quite right. The WiFi was so bad we couldn’t watch TV at all. The pool and hot tub were definitely the best bits. Also, the bed was tiny for a double, which was a bit disappointing.
James
We really enjoyed our stay! The place is beautifully decorated and having access to the sauna and hot tub was a real bonus. Helen was super friendly and helpful. Saw some adorable red squirrels and sheep from the window-would definitely come back!

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 12 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 22 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 22 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 29 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
