We had a wonderful stay at the studio at Stackwood. The location is lovely and quiet and the views from the window of the studio are so picturesque- I even saw a red squirrel! The studio itself is cosy and warm and the bed is very comfortable. Use of the amenities between 5 and 7 is the cherry on top of this lovely holiday home, we particularly lovRead moreed the hot tub and sauna. The check in process was easy and we had privacy for our whole stay, yet the host was responsive if we needed anything. Hide

Was lovely to wake up in the morning to see the sheep in the fields and the red querriels climbing the trees. Toured everywhere as never been before. Stairs a little problem as dog fell down on first day but lucky it was ok. People friendly in the village.

The Studio at Stackwood is set in a peaceful location, within easy reach of the Lakes and the coast. A bonus is the use of the owner's pool, sauna & hot tub, from 5.00 to 7.00 every evening. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. I would recommend this property as a base for exploring the Lake District and Cumbrian coast.

Lovely stay away, beautifully kept, bird watching through the windows was brilliant and good view of the sheep! Hot tub and sauna were a fab addition, one of the main reasons we booked here. Found it abit difficult to find as satnav stopped before location (mentioned to studio owners and they will be adding more info/directions for people staying).
Mark
Fantastic place to stay. Very quiet in superb location. Accommodation was clean and very comfortable, slept really well. Enjoyed use of pool, sauna and hot top after a days hiking around many of the local beauty spots. Will definately be coming back again
Joseph
Not what we expected for the price we paid. Poor WiFi connection meant we had no telly for our stay. Pool and hotub the highlights of the holiday. Not many local shops nearby. Bed is small for a double.

A lovely place to stay. Decorated in a lovely way and great to have use of the sauna and hot tub. Our Host Helen was very welcoming and helpful. Great to see red squirrels from our window and sheep! Would stay here again.
Kelly
Great property with lovely owners who are around if needed but at no point did we feel as if there wasn't plenty of privacy. Our dogs were also made to feel welcome and the extra facilities (hot tub/sauna) were a great addition to a relaxing stay. We would definitely stay here again.
Kirsty
The location of the studio was lovely, loads of places to take the dogs out walking for miles. There was a really helpful guide book when we arrived that was filled with dog friendly local attractions too. And after all of the walking it was fab to have a good chill out in the hot tub and sauna.
Rosamund
Very much enjoyed my week at the apartment. Wonderful to see red squirrels playing outside. So good to have the use of the swimming pool and sauna at the end of the day. My westie enjoyed it too, although he insisted on being carried down the stairs and which I had to negotiate carefully.
Rivka

Phil

Please note that some of these activities and days out are paid and it's always a good idea to book in advance to secure your place where applicable.

Found a special day out near your cottage? Please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too!
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 12 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 22 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 22 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 29 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
