Restharrow Lodge Reviews

Misleading description of short walk into Bamburgh, other than that all good
Beautiful property. Well equipped and comfortable. Thoughtful touches like welcome pack, one for dogs too. We were there for a celebratory 70th birthday BBQ with family found the BBQ to be unusable with food, grease and mold. Took over 5 hours to get a response from onsite maintenance company who just put grids in dishwasher, which still the food, mould etc on the grids. Very upsetting for all. Travelled round trying to buy new one but no avail. Did our best to clean it ourselves. Throughout the day tried to get help from Sykes, still waiting for a reply! Made a formal complaint to Sykes 2nd October, no response. Tried their Wattsap contact line today chasing the complaint, no response. I would recommend the owner stop using Sykes, they treat their customers very badly. Trust pilot reviews are manipulated. Google reviews more accurate.
We were an extended family of 6 grandparents, daughter and son in law and two grandchildren and Restharrow Lodge suited all our requirements. The property was beyond our expectations, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The beds were comfy. The hot tub was the icing on the cake and our two grandsons twins aged 11 absolutely loved it. We had some wonderful days out visited Alnwick Castle, a boat trip to the Farne Islands Billy Sheils Boat trip and we visited Holy IslandLindisfarne. We were so lucky with the weather it was wonderful. We also had a fantastic meal at The Potted Lobster we booked beforehand and also at The Victoria Hotelhighly recommended. All in all it was the perfect holiday thanks to our excellent accommodation. Thank you Restharrow Lodge for making it so special we made lovely memories.

On arrival, the lodge was as expected as we have stayed in one of these lodges before on this site. We were perfectly happy with the cleanliness, the facilities and the welcome pack exceeded our expectations. When we came to use the washing machine there did not appear to be an instruction manual which would have been useful and also an airer to dry the clothes on. On balance we were highly satisfied and are seriously considering rebooking again next year. One other point was that the televisions in the bedrooms would not work as they appeared not to be connected to an aerial.
We loved our stay at Restharrow Lodge sometimes photos can be deceptive about location and internal layout, and descriptions generous, but if anything, Restharrow Lodge is even better than described! Perfect size for our family of 4, and well located both close to Bamburgh and Seahouses, but also within the Brada site, with privacy for the hot tub and outdoor seating. Loved it.
The property was spacious, clean and well stocked with everything you could possibly need for break away plus more. There was a lovely welcoming hamper and the best part the amazing hot tub! Would highly recommend this lodge and will book again!
Restharrow lodge was an ideal base for exploring Bamburgh and surrounding area. The living area was comfortable and well stocked with everything needed for our stay. The bedrooms were quite small and there wasn't a great deal of storage. OK if you're only there for a few days but less so if you're there for a week. The hot tub was brilliant the best we've used.
Alison
Lovely property in a a very convenient peaceful location. We were very comfortable. Just a few v minor extras that would be welcome oven gloves, rubber mat for shower bit slippery, glass casserole with lid for microwave & how about an egg poacher?? Thoroughly enjoyed our week & would happily return.
Beautiful lodge, superb location. So peaceful, especially at night when youre in the hot tub
Geoffrey
Had a great stay in a lovely property which is in a lovely location. The property was really nice but we found it difficult to work out the heating and we still never managed to get the heated towel rails on. Also we were unable to get normal tv on any of the tvs which was a bit frustrating. Minor details but frustrating. Apart from that it was a great holiday and would rebook the lodge again.

Absolute quality
Well equipt, clean and comfortable accommodation in a great location. We had a great stay!
We had a great stay at Restharrow. Great lodge and very well equipped. Very close to Bamburgh. Thank you!
Really appreciated the 3 fans delivered on our day of arrival. Really helped The property was very clean and we had a fab time Hot tub was nice in the evening Thanks Kev
Nicola

We had a lovely break in Restharrow Lodge

We Loved our stay , We stayed for Christmas we bought our own small tree and some utensils for christmas but turned out it was not needed . They had a tree and had everything in the kitchen and more for us . The hot tub was large and very relaxing and stayed hot Very peaceful and relaxing 2 miles walk to bamburgh castle , closet shops are 25 mins away but we only went out once for a good shop . Would I stay again YES if we was closer but was a 9 hour drive for us Thank you
Rachel
Cosy, quiet lodge. Perfect for our family of 5. Loved the area, 5 mins drive to the beach at Bamburgh. Luxury hottub in peaceful surroundings. The lodge had an excellent welcome pack, was very clean and had everything we needed. Would love to return!
The grocery welcome pack was a nice and welcome surprise. Hot tub well heated and accessible. Property was clean and tidy inside. However the property in need of some TLC we had a constant dripping tap in kitchennot able to be repaired during our stay, despite reporting on arrival, however owner did explain reason for this. Outside of the property needs a bit of a spruce up lots of cobwebs and general wear & tear, gutter constantly dripping over bifold doors & not able to open bifold doors as they were extremely stiff we are use to opening them as have them at home!. Lots of dead insectsdaddy long legs between shutterswindows in bedroom. Outdoor furniture cushions wet and not able to be used as cover used but not secured & no ability to store cushions inside. Extremely hot and provision of a fanfans would have been extremely welcome in the heat as the lodge is like a greenhouse with lots of glass. Not able to access outside bins shed locked with 2 padlocks and no keys provided. Not able to operate TVs in any bedroom & no instructions provided in information pack. Visitor information pack out of date I.e. states property let by crabtree&crabtree not Sykes cottages, recommends a restaurant in Bamburgh Mizen Head Hotel that has been shut down for well over 18 months! Hot tub operational info doesnt relate to the hot tub in situ.
A wonderful place to stay with a fabulous hot tub . A real advantage ,A very helpful owner who answered all our queries & helped to solve any problem.Just a few things which we feel would be an improvement . The guidebook in the lodge is very out of date it says no dogs allowed also the hot tub instructions did not relate to the hot tub. We found it very difficult to access the TVs as there were no instructions to specify that they had to be used via WiFi .Also in the lounge the Sky tv would not work because the card had been placed in the machine upside down.In spite of this Restharrow Lodge is a lovely lodge & we all enjoyed an excellent holiday .
A fantastic house in a perfect location. Beautiful beaches on the doorstep, a quaint little town, peaceful, quiet and beautiful.
Hamper was a nice surprise
Yes it was a lovely place really relaxing and Bamburgh has a gorgeous beach
Rhauri
Had a fantastic time at Restharrow Lodge, Bamburgh. Excellent facilities and lots of space with hot tub only one on site. Perfect location and great view of quarry. Easy access to Bamburgh and to A1 to access local attractions. Highly recommend.
Lovely property, well equipped and in a lovely location. Quiet and sheltered, with amazing night skies.
Amanda
The lodge was brilliantly equipped, comfortable and just as listed
Claudia
The lodge was absolutely amazing and the hosts had thought of everything. It was very comfortable and homely, but very modern and cozy. We were happy enough to stay in and cook one night rather than visit the local pubs. It was very nice of the hosts to leave basic food milk, eggs and bread, the house was also full equipped with cleaning products. Our only issue was finding the place, as it was dark when we arrived. We ended up in a different field of lodges that were still being built. We also struggled to find our lodge due to there being no outdoor light, lit footpath or clearly lit lodge number. We were running around with torches to different lodges. I would also like to suggest additional lighting near the hot tub.
Russell
Wonderful place, our family especially loved the hot tub. Everything about the lodge was perfect and beautifully kept. Highly recommend.
I just love the character of this cottage. This cottage got lovely fireplace and a hot tub which was amazing! I will go back next year!
Lovely cottage but on the downside there was foisty smell in both toilets, towel rail in onsuite was dirty and marked the towels. Owner has a camera bell set up but kept going off in the cottage when no one at the door. Bins at the rear of the property which is good but no footpath to get to them you have cross over on the wet grass. Short stroll into Bamburgh is not quite true as it is about 2 miles. Cottage lacks a floor mop and a sweeping brush to keep it clean. But we still had a good time and would go back earlier in the year as November was cold and wet.
We have holidayed many times in this area and chose this accomodation for its location and luxury. The location did not disappoint 20 min walk to Budle Bay and a good 45 mins walk into Bamburgh or a 5 min car journey. Views are spectalular from the top of the quarry & would thoroughly recommend. The accommodation, although at first glance looks impressive, upon closer inspection it is let down in several areas, which you would not expect at this end of the price range. On a positive note, the mattresses, pillows and duvets were gorgeously comfortable as were the sofas. The smart TV was great, which enabled us to use Netflix a must for the kids! The hot tub was great other than last morning more than big enough for a group of 8. Other than a pint of milk and 4 individual biscuits, there is no welcome pack. Although this is a nice to have this is something I have become used to in other holiday lets all of which have been less expensive than this one. Some local produce, fruit, juice etc. would be a nice touch. This is something perhaps the owners could look into. Cleanliness is the main issue also mentiontioned in earlier feedback posts. Cobwebs on windows & ceiling, crockery had to be washed before use, old pair of socks left in one of the top bunk beds under the mattress not a nice find for the child in the lower bunk ! In general the whole place needs a good clean. There is no mop or bucket which would be useful and the bedrooms would benefit from a dressing table. A shelf would also be useful in the bathrooms. The front door bell did ring several times for no reason which was a little frustrating. A wider range of cooking utensils is a must one small frying pan for a group of 8 is not practical by any stretch of the imagination. Hot tub was topped up with cold water at 8am on the morning of departure, which made it impossible for anyone to have a last dip before the 10am detparture. We had a great holiday in one of our favourite areas despite the points raised above the lodge is lovely, however couldn't help feeling disappointed.
Joanne
Loved the lodge and hot tub. Beautiful scenery easy to get about. Only thing missing was a mirror in the bedroom so I could dry my hair. Internet was abit hit and miss which affected the tv.
Sandra
Beautiful accommodation in a lovely setting. Furnishings excellent quality. Overall very clean let down by sloppy missed areas. Dirty greasy grill pan in oven on our arrival.Moved bedside table by wall in ensuite room to find a dropped earring and found it filthy with dust and hairs, obviously never cleaned. Disappointed that the hot tub that was one of the reasons we booked this lodge only worked for 4 days of our week as a new part was needed and was only fixed on our last full day. Should have been informed of this. A shame about these as the lodge and setting were so perfect.
It was a beautiful home and very comfy set in a great location so close to Bambough castle. The hot tub was a brilliant added extra
Yvette
Great property exactly as listed. Loved the break. Only comment we would have is there wasnt much clothing storage in the bedrooms hanging space in particular. Minor point but apart from that it was perfect.
Jackie
Well designed very modern lodge with great facilities from BBQ, TVs in all bedrooms, hot tub, washerdryer. Beautiful location looking down a Bamburgh Castle footpath close by to walk into Bamburgh 1.5 miles and nearest beach around 20 minutes walk by road no footpath Dog friendly would be ideal if the decking was more enclosed as the wires around kept coming apart and our escape artist dogs had to be watched at all times. My minor criticisms would be the floor was a little dusty & the shower tray outside needs attention in the main bathroom, the frying pan is very worn & scratched & could not be used. Other than that we were very lucky with the weather which made for a perfect 5 day break thank you
Sandra
Fabulous lodge. Extremely well designed, very spacious with luxury fittings. Particularly loved the woodburner and hot tub. There is endless hot water for pre and after hot tub showers. The lodge is about 2 miles from Bamburgh in a really quiet location. Would recommend early morning walks on the beach. The quarry immediately behind the lodge has been made a nature reserve and is excellent for bird watching whilst sitting in the hot tub. Would definitely recommend the lodge for anyone visiting the area.
Michelle
A beautifully presented lodge with modern decor and a fantastic hot tub. The lodge was very clean, well stocked with kitchen utensils and lots modern extras like sky in every room and surround sound. The owners had left bread, eggs and milk which was a nice touch. Beds were very comfortable and location is lovely. A brilliant property in a quiet and peaceful location!
Beverley
Absolutely loved this place. ..and Northumberland is beautiful. The house was very clean, very comfortable...and had added extras that went down a treat. The highlight I think, for us, was def the hot tub...how perfect to see in the new year gazing at the stars while the water bubbles away...?? We would LOVE to return here sometime if we will ever be able to book in because I think, once word gets around about these lodges, they'll be booked up for years!!!

Alnwick Castle and Gardens - NE66 1NQ
about 12 Miles
Alnwick Castle and Gardens today are perhaps best known for their roles as Hogwarts in Harry Potter movies but have for many years been a family favourite attraction in Northumberland. The beautiful medieval castle is open to the public and during school holidays and at Christmas and Halloween a range of activities can be enjoyed including Santa's Workshop, a Pumpkin Parade, Spell Making Lessons and Owl and Bird of Prey Flying.
Conundrum Farm - EX5 3AQ
about 17 Miles
With easy access from the A1 this lovely farm just north of Berwick makes a fantastic family day out.  Follow the farm trail and meet an array of friendly farm animals.  Kids will also enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas, pet barn and tractor circuit.  The admission fee is excellent value and you will get a free bag of food for the animals and a bag of fish food for the trouts in the fish pond. When you want a bite to eat, the licensed restaurant is the place to go with quality home cooking and a charming location in some of the converted farm buildings.
Cragside House and Gardens - NE65 7PX
about 20 Miles
Cragside House and Gardens (National Trust) are a popular Northumberland attraction with a beautiful stately home and gorgeous grounds to explore. The rhododendron labyrinth is a unique and fun addition to the grounds and there is also an adventure playground where children can let of steam. It is the stunning scenery that attracts most of the visitors though with many bringing a picnic for a relaxing family day out. The house itself hosts exhibits which change regularly. World of the Water Wizard is currently on display.
