Thompson Rigg Barn Reviews

We had such a fantastic stay at the property. Both owners were super helpful and friendly. It was a haven away from normal life and we couldnt thank them enough for making our honeymoon more perfect.
We had fantastic stay at Tompson Rigg barn. From the moment we arrived we had a very warm welcome from Helen and Alan and stormy the dog. Before we entered the barn Buddy the donkey and Shevy the sheep came running across the field to say hello, just perfect. We loved the idyllic peaceful location, with beautiful views and walks and wild life. The log burning fire and hot tub made it a cozy and relaxing stay, The barn was immaculate throughout with everything that you needed and more. Lots of information inside the barn and from Helen and Alan of places to visit , were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent direction as they were greatly needed due to the remoteness of the barn and the short cut directions through the woods were helpful when we arrived. Perfect holiday, perfect hosts, absolutely perfect. If you need a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle of life, this is the place to be.
Perfect stay we were blown away by the beauty of Thompson Rigg. Very tranquil with amazing views walks directly on your doorstep. Barn conversion is by far the best we have ever stayed in 20 years experience renovated to a very high standard. Immaculately clean throughout with ultra modern hot tub. Donkeys, sheep and friendly dog, Stormy were a welcome bonus for us. Alan & Helen are the ultimate hosts helpful and informative with all their knowledge of the area. Our rule is never go to the same place twice we love the buzz of a new place adventure but weve already rebooked for next year. Theres so much more for us to explore in the area & Thompson Rigg Barn is the ideal base for us. Billy &Tina
Had a lovely break away in this barn, everything was just perfect, would highly recommend this property.
We had a fantastic stay at Thompson Rigg Barn. If you enjoy being away from the crowds this is the perfect place. We enjoyed the fact we were surrounded by walks, with the reward of a relaxing soak in the hot tub in the evening. The barn is finished to a high standard and is a beautiful place to relax. Alan and Helen left us to enjoy our break but were very helpful if we needed anything. We were left with some bubbly and other nice treats, and Alan made sure we were topped up with logs for the fire. We would highly recommend the Barn and hope we can return in the future.
Alicia
Absolutely fantastic! Love the treats you left us and attention to detail, very spotless and relaxing stay for our honeymoon
Jennifer
A true escape from the cares of the world. Lovely, wellequipped, and spotlessly clean accommodation in beautiful surroundings. The owners could not be more welcoming. Amazing to star gaze from the hot tub in those skies free from light pollution. The friendly dog, donkey, and sheep made us smile too.
Had an amazing time. Helen and Allen are very decent people, the animals are a real plus, especially Harry the donkey. The location is just something else, literally your own private entrance to the yorkshire moors, right outside the accommodation. The hot tub is large and the barn conversion is beautiful with everything you need. Me and the misses have done lots of these hot tubcottage brakes and this is top 3. 100 will be back.

My second stay here, had such a relaxing holiday I wanted to go again and Im not one for going the same place twice. The barn is lovely, comfortable, spotlessly clean, and very well equipped. Much thought has gone into it. Hosts very welcoming, there if you need anything but left to get on. Hot tub well maintained too. The surroundings are beautiful, peaceful with lots of wildlife to watch. The donkeys love a carrot and its fun to feed them. Stargazing is amazing too. Perfect spot to relax, read and recharge. If you are looking to get away from it all in beautiful surroundings and comfort Id recommend.
Stephen
What a fantastic property and hosts. We've stayed in quite a few over the years but this is in our top 3 and we will be returning, possibly later on next year to experience the autumn winter months. If you want somewhere remote where you can give your brain a reboot, then this is the property to do it in. We have already passed the details on to friends who also prefer to have quiet and remote breaks.
We absolutely loved our stay at the barn and have already booked a longer return visit for next year. The directions from Alan and Helen were spot on and the journey in was breathtaking. We received a warm welcome from Alan, Storm and Buddy with a brief show around of all the key details before leaving us to settle in for a few days honeymoon. It's clear there's a lot of thought gone into creating a relaxing experience for guests at the barn. Couple that with the gorgeous surroundings and views... we can't wait to come back!
Rachel
Super place to stay and to get away from it all . Lovely property with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable with a thoughtful welcome pack. Superb walking either directly from the Barn or a short drive away. We loved the donkeys, sheep and Storm the dog. Kind hosts who greeted us on arrival but also gave us our space whilst staying at their property. Would highly recommend this as a place to stay
Oliver
Lovely lovely place to stay. Only thing I would consider is if youre wanting to pop in and out for the day, for breakfast or dinner or mix between the both, travel time does make it more realistic to plan for a full day out, or stay in for the whole day and cook in the great facilities they give you! Definitely advise following the directions Helen sends you. Incredibly welcoming hosts, and the area was so so lovely and a great break way from the rest of the world! If youre wanting a proper getaway with plenty of walking over stunning scenery 100 recommend! The local areas are also lovely!
Amazing, quiet, relaxing and clean property. A perfect place to relax, switch off and recharge.
What a fantastic place ,we meet our hosts when we arrived and they gave us a lot ... What a fantastic place ,we meet our hosts when we arrived and they gave us a lot of information about where to visit and places to eat The barn was wonderful spacious and clean Beautiful scenery and the moors just a footstep away Unfortunately we had to leave a night early due to family accident at home but we will definitely be back Thank you Alan and Helen for a wonderful stay
Leanne
Great place, perfect hosts, will be going again!
An absolutely amazing place for a romantic getaway, the barn is private, beautiful and equipped with everything you need. The views are breathtaking, there's plenty of countryside to explore. The hosts were very helpful on arrival, and had left us some gifts for our stay. They made sure we had any directions we needed getting there and helped us to find a local pub for something to eat. We will definitely be booking again.
Heather
Alan and Helen couldn't have been more helpful starting with directions to the barn in the first place. Then showing us round introducing us to the donkeys and filling up the wood store. The hot tub and views were brilliant. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Thanks to the hosts Alan & Helen, nothing was too much trouble. The barn itself was amazing, comfy, cosy and like a home from home. Our stay was so relaxing, we loved seeing the donkeys, chickens, sheep, turkey and of course Storm dog the days explorations included carrots for donkeys and dog treats The hot tub was great, stars were so clear. We would highly recommend staying here. Easy check in and out. Will definitely be booking again. Thanks again both of you.
Great place for a romantic, peaceful getaway . Well equipped and comfortable with special touches by the owners who are very lovely. Great base for walks and days out .
Beautiful space for couples set in a stunning part of the world. We had a fantastic stay at Thompson Rigg. The barn was extremely well kitted out & comfortable. The hot tub is wonderful & the scenery was amazing. We had a lovely time feeding the donkeys, walking Blakey Topping straight from the lodge & relaxing. A massive thank you to Alan & Helen for giving us a fabulous break.
Melvin
Fantastic place to stay for a perfect base to chill and enjoy all of the different wildlife that is in abundance in this lovely away from it all picturesque little valley. The accommodation is absolutely superb, we can assure everyone if you need to get away from it all and RELAX that you certainly will not be disappointed. A VERY HAPPY AND REJUVENATED MELVIN & JEANETTE

Its our 3rd visit which I think says it all! We just love the remote tranquility its definitely our happy place
Alan and Helen are the perfect hosts. The area is beautiful and peaceful and just what we needed for a relaxing week. We can't wait to come again.
We had the most wonderful time ! Beautiful barn with an incredible setting. We really enjoyed our stay and would 100 recommend everyone
The accommodation, area, hosts and communication was second to none. It really is in the middle of nowhere but also not far from anything you might need. The accommodation is as promised on the booking and has everything you might need and things you didn't know you needed. The hot tub was well used whilst there as there was nothing better than lying in it and looking up at the Milky Way one night, snow the second night and rain the third night, all equally wonderful. The bed was wonderfully comfy and enough wood for the log burner to keep us warm when it got cold. Highly recommend this property and we will be back.
This is our second visit to the Thomas Rigg Barn and it did not disappoint ! Such a beautiful location , perfect facilities and the best place to relax , unwind and reset. We could not recommend this place enough and the owners Alan and Helen are such a lovely couple friendly and accommodating, but also mindful of your privacy. Will definitely be booking again in the future !
Everything was perfect. The barn was clean, comfortable, warm, superbly equipped with every little thing you might have at home. The owners were pleasant and informative and there if needed. The donkeys, hens and turkey made food waste disposal a delight! The surroundings were private and stunning and lying in the hot tub looking up at the stars wasparadise enough
An excellent place to stay. Beautiful surroundings and a place to totally relax and enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle of life. Alan and Helen are great hosts. Looking forward to returning at some point.
Very well equipped and comfortable. A great place to relax and get away from from it all. It was just what we expected.
3rd time we have stayed and wont be our last, amazing every time! If you want to get away from it all then this is the place to go. We take a weeks worth of shopping and dont really leave untill our holiday is over. Im usually an early riser but some days i would not naturally wake up untill 11am. The bed is huge and comfy and the sheets are amazing. There is a snug where my partner would sit and read her book with a glass of wine while I went out to explore. We would definitely recommend heading to the end of the road then over the fence into the forest for a walk and enjoy the scenery. The owners are brilliant and will engage with you and if you want to be left alone they respect that too and give you your space. The best place we have stayed so far and hopefully in the future we will be back for a fourth time. If you are used to the city life and want to get away from it all then this is the place to go.
Bonita
We had the most amazing stay. They thought of everything and great attention to detail. The location was exactly what we needed solitude. Plenty of opportunities to have walks and make friends with the donkeys. Its close enough to have a scenic drive into the local villages too. Would highly recommend and cant wait to come stay again. Thank you so much!!!!
Denise
What a lovely, cosy and very comfortable hideaway this is. We had such a peaceful and relaxing break. Alan & Helen are the most perfect hosts and super helpful. They have added lots of little touches to make the Barn feel homely and welcoming and the bed is the most comfortable bed weve slept on in any hotel or holiday cottage!
The property was lovely and the facilities were great. The hot tub was fantastic but took a long time to get to 37.5 degrees but once reached temperature was fab ! Beautiful scenery , the donkeys are so cute
Fantastic cabin, amazing surroundings the owners were lovely
Thomas
Our stay at thompson rigg barn was perfect everything was fantastic and would definitely recommend.
Steven
We stayed here for 2 nights and what can I say amazing, Alan & Helen were very welcoming and on hand if we needed anything at all, their attention to detail was spot on. This place is brilliant if you want some piece & quiet or just what to relax away from the hustle & bustle of city life. The walk in the Yorkshire Moors was so piece full, with breathtaking views this is a must when staying here.
Philip
Its our second visit this year because we love it so much and weve just booked for March next year! The barn is so cosy and has great facilities, the hot tub is just the icing on the cake and great for relaxing tired muscles. From walking out directly from the barn or exploring further afield to all that is on offer in Dalby Forest, the North Yorkshire railway line with its beautiful stations and steam trains and even to the seaside. That said, we find it difficult to leave the donkeys, sheep and chickens and are happy to just share their space, tranquility and remoteness. We feel amazing when were there and just the fact that weve booked again gives me a great sense of wellbeing. We would definitely recommend.
Thompson Rigg Barn is exactly what we needed for our week away! The barn was larger than many we have visited, has everything we could have wished for including a few games, which was great, as we forgot ours! and is beautifully situated and presented, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by dark skies we were mostly unlucky with cloud, but did see ISS, and a few stars, peace and quiet, and beautiful countryside. The drive in and out is an adventure it is necessary to allow a good 20 minutes before any real roads are reached! but, for us, this was part of its charm!! Our hosts were helpful, friendly and accommodating, and topped up the wood for the wonderful logburner, whenever required! Our main company were sheep, donkeys ever hopeful for apples!, hens, and many wild birds. Listening to the owls, while soaking in the hottub was the final touch absolutely wonderful, thank you.
