Braegarth Reviews

Paul
Beautiful cottage set in a stunning location . Ideal location for visiting the Lakes Village of Elterwater very pretty
Helen
Braegarth is a truly beautiful house in an idyllic setting. The large garden is heavenly. The house was spotlessly clean, with comfortable furnishings and beds. Direct access to so many interesting walks & hikes. Easy to walk into Elterwater village, to the hotel facilities and to the shop & pub in Chapel Stile along the river (avoiding the road) WRead moree would love to stay here again. Hide

Most importantly, the location is in the heart of the Lake District and so perfectly placed for walking from the front door. Therefore the outlook is beautiful to the front (the rear is garden sloping up / trees). It has a massive garden to explore, but it's mostly on a slope; once the gardener arrived, we didn't see him again all day. There is aRead more place to eat 'next door' about 30 seconds walk, which do cocktails and takeaways as well as eat in, and we did not get any noise from that all week whatsoever. We made good use of the complimentary swimming pool / spa facilities membership every day at the hotel less than 2 minutes drive down the road, but although walkable, it's really only safe to drive with children as the road is narrow and there is no pavement. Braegarth is very welcoming and cosy house with marvellous views and a set in an attractive garden. Great fun to be had for adventurous children. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. A choice of many walks, both easy and challenging, direct from the door, . Once parked up you really do not need to use your car Read moreagain, with a local shop and several good restaurants, cafes and pubs within a few minutes walk from the house. I would certainly recommend Braegarth to anyone looking for a memorable stay in the Langdale valley. Hide

We had an amazing stay at Braegarth. The gardens were beautiful and well tended. We enjoyed spending time in them exploring or taking in the views and wildlife. Having two streams and a waterfall in the garden was a first for us! The house is spacious and well equipped with lovely views from all of the windows. With comfortable beds and modern bathRead morerooms, Braegarth is everything you need for a relaxing stay in this stunning part of the Lake District. We came the same week last year. Total contrast in weather - snow, floods and sunshine - but the weather didn't stop us having a wonderful weeks break. Once again the cottage has been superb, enjoyed the Champagne - thank you! The log burner was excellent, especially with the snow falling outside. We'd love this to be our annual retreat as we love Read moreit here and have very fond memories, thank you for sharing! Hide

We had a brilliant stay here! The beds are so comfortable and we slept brilliantly. Furthermore, the garden is massive and great for playing hide and seek. We saw lots of rabbits and pheasants too. There was a storm on the last night of our stay which blew the gates open, in the morning two sheep had ended up in the garden! Overall our stay here waRead mores amazing. Hide

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 7 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 8 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 13 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 22 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 26 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 28 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
