The Stable Reviews

The Stables is a lovely little property, very cosy! Beautifully and thoughtfully designed, with lot of nice little touches that add the extra little luxury factor things that certainly aren't critical, but do add a llittle touch coffee pod machine, bluetooth speak for music etc. The bed is incredibly comfortable and the hot tub is a fabulous way to relax after a days exploring...even in the rain! All in all we had a wonderful stay, far too short, but there's only so long you can leave the children to fend for themselves. We will back!
Dominic
Excellent property and a wonderful stay. First class hosts. We will be back for sure.
A lovely cottage warm clean and comfortable. One or two issues the lane up to the house is so rough and uneven we worried about getting through. The TV is unreliable and the instructions not accurate. The stairs to the hot tub were very steep and being older we found that a handicap but the hot tub was great. We enjoyed our stay nevertheless but small improvements would have made a good time a great time. More accurate photos of the house too please.
Andrew
The Stable is pleasant and the hot tub is really good, but the thing that's not clear on the photos is that it's in the driveway of the host's house and all windows can be overseen by their house. This might not be an issue to some but the fact you had to have all blinds and curtains closed as it's all one room to get dressed or if you don't want to be seen in your pyjamas! meant we spent more than we would've liked of the stay in the dark. The bathroom is fine, I'm not sure why there aren't pictures on the listing. It could do with a proper clean though. The central heating thermostat is directly above the single radiator so it's very difficult to get the space warm before the central heating cuts out. The kitchen is good and well equipped, everything you need to cook a Sunday roast. The track to gain access to the property is very rutted and any car that's even slightly lower will ground out, an SUV or 4x4 is required really. An Audi A3 is not suitable and struggled to get along the track. Charging 5 a bag for logs seems pretty unreasonable given the cost of staying here, the 'starter' logs were used up very quickly. Ross on Wye is nearby as is Symonds Yat, well worth a visit. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in this area this might suit, if, like us, you were looking for a great property to explore any area, there are better options with better views and more privacy.
Gorgeous place to stay for a retreat into the country. Comfortable and thoughtfully furnished. So relaxing to be in a hot tub and listening to owls at night. Bliss
We had a perfect stay at The Stable. Its such an idyllic place to relax and unwind and we will definitely be back The hot tub is a welcome addition and it was fab to sit in it at dusk and hear the owls and birds
Lovely comfortable, peaceful cottage. All the equipment needed and the hot tub was wonderful. We would love to stay there again sometime. Good location and very helpful hosts.
Rebecca
First 2 nights couldn't sort out the heating it was cold. Didn't mind that the host was away but it would have been good to have someone else to contact.
I couldn't of asked for anything more. The property was beautiful and exactly as advertised. Sitting in the hottub while the sun went, watching the bats and listening to the owls was amazing. Definetly already thinking about booking again.
Gerald
One tiny little niggle the toilet brush was rusty and not very clean! Very well equipped kitchen and very modern. Overall really lovely peaceful property and we loved coming back there after a day out the owners were very nice and there if you needed anything but left you to it. Directions to property were excellent.
Deborah
We enjoyed our stay. John and Louisa were great hosts. Peaceful cottage nice hot tub especially after dark.
Catherine
Enjoyed a lovely short break at The Stable. Accommodation is snug but perfect for 2, everything clean and in good condition. Log burner was wonderful in the evening and loved being in the hot tub after sunset, listening to the owls! Highly recommended.
We had a lovely relaxing stay at The Stable. It was exactly as described and was a fabulous place to relax especially in the hot tub! A great location for exploring the local area. Added bonus were the 2 friendly cats!
A comfortable cottage and the wood burner was a great help on the cool evenings. Location is great for the Forest of Dean. Peaceful and relaxing surroundings. Some of the utensils could do with replacing, such as the skillet.
Michael
Very calm and quiet in a beautiful setting. The Stable is well appointed and very clean. The hot tub and gazebo are an welcome bonus. The owners are excellent, they're there if you need them but not invasive.
Christopher
Beautiful cottage in a tranquil location highly recommended
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Stable, a little haven of peace and tranquillity. The hot tub was great we found it very relaxing. There are lots of good places to eat not to far away and things to see and do and thank you for the delicious fruit cake you left for us.
We had an amazing time at the lodge. So peaceful and absolutely stunning views especially from the hot tub at night, the stars were all out and it was just amazing
Samantha
Incredible little place! We had an amazing few nights stay at the stable. The accommodation is perfect the location is peaceful and beautiful, perfect for a relaxing break. The hot tub was a lovely luxury and we very much enjoyed spending the evenings between the hot tub and sitting in front of the log burning fire.
Miriam
Great location for lovely holiday days out, evening in hot tub, and by fire pit, the place could have been cleaner, it was certainly better when we left, the bedding and bed is past its best. But otherwise the property is well planned, and generally well presented, you could tell some redecorating had been done.
We had a great week, the cottage was very comfortable and facilities especially the hot tub were greatly appreciated. Many places were within easy travelling distance, Hereford, RossonWye, Glastonbury, Cheddar and the Avalon Marshes. All in all a great place to stay
Stephen
Lovely location, quiet and peaceful. The previous occupants did not clean the cooker grill which was greasy with fat. The oven could of benefited from a professional clean. The bed linenduvet in particular felt old and Staines in places as was the pillow cases. Not up to your perfect standards this time Sykes! At lease we did bring our o n this time. Apart from this, the accommodation was great and we did enjoy the stay.
Had a fabulous and relaxing holiday, a bit tight on the lanes around the cottage but very peaceful. Hot tub great, new fire pit, everything you could need.
Jonathan
Really beautiful stables, very quiet, very remote. Lush
Andrew
Beautiful spot,lovely cottage.
Estelle
Had a great stay especially the hot tub and log burner fire Everything was great ... Had a great stay especially the hot tub and log burner fire Everything was great with the cats and chickens especially Pip who was a sweetie
The place was absolutely amazing, perfect size for a couple with a lovely hot tub and gazebo area in the garden that made for some lovely dinners outside surrounded by sheep, chicken and the two little cats. Our only negative feedback would be that we didnt get any information on arriving as to key collection and the numbers didnt work and it felt weird entering the property without speaking to anyone. Although we appreciated the privacy it would be a nice to be greeted either on arrival or that day to say hello. The stable door also didnt lock which meant the property was never secure which was something that really bothered us and would like to see that mended before a return visit but we absolutely intend to return in the long run! Thank you for a lovely stay!
Louise
As instructed prior to arrival i rang the owners and left 4 messages on two different numbers for key information no one returned my call. We struggled to locate the propeety initially as the stone with ghe lodges name on at the too of the drive could do with painting On arrival no one was there to meet us which isnt a big issue but would have been nice. The location and facilities were really good. However the cleanliness wasnt to the standard i would have expected especially during lockdown. The decor was tired and could have done with being painted especially the kitchen ceiling where there had been a leak and the bathroom were paint was flaking off the walls. There was no brush , mop or hoover meaning the floor couldn't be cleaned throughout our stay and the stable door in fhe kitchen wasnt locked and had no key to enable us to lock it which meaning we coukdbt secure the property. I did knock on the owners door a couple of times but got no reply. This property with a few finishing touches could have been perfect without too much of an outlay for the owners.
Fantastic place to stay, great hosts. Location was great and the privacy of the hot tub under the trees was gorgeous. Highly recommended
Stephen
Property felt bigger than the photos suggested. Property could have benefited from a clothes rack to dry towels
Caroline
Hosts friendly and helpful. The stables is open plan with shower room. Steps to garden and very clean hot tub. Free roaming chickens. Delightfully quiet and peaceful.
Nicholas
Being off grid, hidden away and in such a secluded spot was perfect for us. The hot tub was awesome. Who cares how cold it is when the tub's 40 degrees!!!! The wood burner kicked out some serious heat ensuring the cottage was toasty warm. We were nice and close to Ross on Wye and the owner was kind enough to recommend a few pubs for us. We will definitely consider another trip.
Andrew
The place is pretty tricky to find, the writing on the stone that has its name on is rather faded & could do with a lick of paint. Hot Tub under the stars is the highlight, wood burner is fantastic, bed is comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped, selection of DVD's are available to watch, it's a really nice place to stay. There were strange comings & goings in the middle of the night, cars & vans, 2am 4am, for such a remote site there's a fair bit of traffic running pastalongsideoutside it. We didn't meet the owners, we did try knocking on the door maybe we tried the wrong door there were plenty of lights on, but we didn't see them. The WiFi password given on the information sheets didn't work, so be prepared to be completely shut off! In no way do the negatives outweigh the positives, they are more niggles than annoyances. It would have been nice to meet the owners. I would book there again.
This was a last minute booking as previous house had gone but what a amazing ... This was a last minute booking as previous house had gone but what a amazing place already planning our return to the stable next year Its honestly was perfect not a single thing wrong with anything clean tidy and good access to local attractions and days out lovely walks and the hot tub looking up at the stars was amazing so relaxing and peaceful great hosts too always on hand if you need anything Would definitely recommend staying
Gorgeous cottage and very private garden and hot tub area. Everything you needed supplied in the cottage. Did not see anyone else for our whole stay. We did actually try and speak with the owners at one stage but were not able to contact them. Apart from that a faultless stay. Very nice location, we visited the butterfly farm nearby which was lovely.
The Stable is an amazing place for a break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Louisa was very welcoming and gave us some great recommendations of places to visit and eat. The area of the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean are on the doorstep with a car and a wonderful area to explore, then after a day of walking, cycling or canoeing the hot tub is there to relax in and watch the sun set, perfect! The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Highly recommended.
We spent our Honey Moon at the Stable and we couldn't of been more pleased with it. We found it close to lots of good town centres, attractions and places to explore which we did each morning, then we spent the afternoons in the hot tub and the evenings around the fire pit with the BBQ going. The location is perfect, you can't get much more perfect if you want peace and quiet and time to relax. The Hosts completely left us alone but were always close by if we needed anything. Also I have to say that we didn't find the midges a problem at all, weather that was down to the time of year or extra measures I have no idea. We had never done a holiday like this before but we would love to do it again, I'd book the Stable again in a heartbeat!
Malcolm
The Stable is set in a fantastic location and is a very well laid out accommodation that is very clean with a cosy cottage feel. The Hot Tub and BBQ area is great for chilling out at anytime of day. It is also a great base for a holiday as there is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area. The owners where very welcoming and unless we asked for anything they left us to enjoy our time alone in this idyllic location. I would highly recommend this property.
Great thank You!
