Pengwern Reviews

Kathryn
Absolutely fantastic property for a family gathering. Clean, warm, very well equipped, games rooms are fantastic for evening entertainment. Lovely patio area with amazing views. Loads of good information about local walks and things to do. The hosts are friendly and made us feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. We had a wonderful time at Pengwern and definitely recommend it.
A superb, spacious holiday home in peaceful surroundings and with stunning views. We were a group of 3 families coming together for a week, and the house provided great spaces to be together, and to be apart when required. The snooker room and table was a highlight, whilst the pool table room was also a cosier option. The Sky TV reception was a little hitandmiss at times but the internet strength was good enough for us to get TV through my own Firestick instead. The owner, who lives next door, was helpful but not intrusive. Once you're down the relatively steep driveway, there are some nice, flat lanes down the valley to walkjog. One of the best holiday homes we've stayed at!
Charlie
The property despite looking amazing in the photos far exceeded our expectations. We had an amazing time and can't wait to come back in the future. Thank you so much for having us.
Gareth
Wow! An absolutely amazing house in a wonderful location. The house had everything we needed and more and we never tired of the wonderful views. Every room was beautifully appointed. The snooker and Pool tables provided great entertainment and the kitchen enabled the entire group to comfortably eat together. The owner provided all the information requiredasked for. We had a wonderful reunion and will hopefully be back for another one.
Andrew
Fantastic place to stay, hosts were extremely helpful.
Samuel
Brilliant property in a beautiful location. Perfect for families wanting a relaxing break with loads to explore and enjoy. Owner was very helpful and friendly.
The House is simply amazing, me and the guys had a fab time! The house had everything a large group could need in a stunning location! Caroline the host was super helpful from when we booked to when we left, nothing was a problem. Will certainly be back.
Beautiful house in a beautiful setting. We were a family of 14 celebrating a special occasion. The house is full of charm and has everything you need for your stay. It is fully equipped and felt very warm and cosy. The bedrooms are all spacious and beds very comfortable. Everyone reported a good night's sleep. The view sat on the patio area is spectacular. The little ones enjoyed the play area. The host was welcoming and informative about the local area. I would highly recommend a stay at this lovely house. We hope to come back.
Have just returned from a great week at Pengwern. Lovely, spacious, property with stunning outlooks and great facilities, particularly the well equipped kitchen and the games room. Drying room was especially useful for the Welsh weather. The owners have addressed the issues with the central heating which were previously commented on and we found the property to be nice and cosy. The log burners were nice to have on in the evenings, too. Would highly recommend this property and we hope to return sometime soon.
Had a lovely weekend with family. House had everything you could want and is in a lovely setting with beautiful views. Caroline, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful.
Zero complaints about the place and will definitely be on our shortlist for when we have long weekends as a large group. The place was absolutely perfect for a large contingent of people. Myself and 14 of my friends had an absolutely great time. Gamesroom is perfectly sized for a large group of people, lounge was a bit of a squeeze but it was fine given we had a nice rug and a fire in front of us. Location was easy enough to find, we used a satnav but do ensure that you have paper directions as well. We tempered expectations with Heatingwater pressureWiFi given the location was quite rural, but we were pleasantly surprised that none of these were an issue at all, especially given the size of the booking. Kitchen was well equipped that I was comfortably able to cook for the 15 strong party. I would advise bringing your own knives though as I found the kitchen knives a tad blunt but thats really a nonissue for a couple of days. Rooms were lovely. There is a single bedroom within the master bedroom, so its more like 7 bedrooms than 6, which is big positive for a mixed group of people. Also, watch your head

It was miserably cold! Theres no hot water and heating! The owner Caroline was helpful, but there was only so much she could do when the heating system was inadequate for the farmhouse. Everything else was fine The farmhouse has been carefully designed, beautiful views and well equipped.
Louise
The house was so spacious and very homely. Had all the amenities you could think of, couldn't have hoped for more. The snooker and games rooms were used all weekend and a brilliant addition. We were made to feel very welcome. The accommodation was very clean. The original features, grounds and views were stunning. The owner, Caroline was lovely and helpful. Will definitely book again for next year!

What a lovely stay. Everything was perfect. House has everything you need and in a great location for exploring. Caroline was the best host so attentive and kind we wouldnt hesitate for to come back. Thanks for the best stay.
Pengwern was fantastic and fitted the remit for the 40th birthday celebrations we were having. With plenty of rooms and a large kitchensnooker room for entertainment this accommodation did not disappoint. The views from this property in the morning on the terrace with a nice cup of tea were amazing and could of stayed for another few days! Thank you Caroline and your friend for all of the help and guidance before arrival and when we arrived.
Louisa
The house and location are both lovely, comfortable and with plenty of room for our party of 8 adults and two small children. Caroline was incredibly helpful and responsive to all our questions. We had a lovely week, enjoying the very efficient stove and comfy sofas, the well equipped kitchen, excellent snooker room, and especially the beautiful scenery and walks in rain and sunshine. Thank you very much.
We absolutely loved Pengwern. Fantastic host. Beautiful picturesque spot away from it all. Lots of space and seems as though Caroline our host had thought of everything. Perfect property for our large family holiday. Hope to return soon.
This property was nothing short of exceptional! The location and the view was just perfect! Excellent host and excellent communication. I would definitely come back again happily. Thank you soo much Caroline for the warm welcome and this beautiful stay.
This was a perfect property for a large family group or group of friends. A glorious, peaceful setting with plenty of walks or trips to the lake. The house has a fantastic snooker room in which our family enjoyed games every night. Outside was a swing and slide structure perfect for our 4 and 7 year olds. Caroline, the owner was always on hand in a helpful and friendly way. Definitely a place we'd like to return to.
We were a family of 11 staying at Pengwern. A lovely quiet location with fantastic views. The house was large enough for the family to spread out without all being on top of one another. The youngsters loved their games room and older ones were in their element in the 'Billiards Room' and bar. The bedrooms were sizeable with good storage space, and everything we needed in the kitchen had been provided. A lovely comfortable retreat!
Couldnt of asked for a better weekend superb place superb views lovely host. There was nothing I could fault definitely be going back there one day
Lovely property, as described. Owners, who live across the way, are helpful and friendly but not intrusive. It is a 30 minute or so drive to supermarkets at Oswestry, but you just need to plan ahead, and there are 2 fridge freezers in the kitchen to help. The view is FABULOUS. Pool room is above the kitchen and snooker room is below the huge bedroom on the first floor at the back of the house. This bedroom has a single bedroom sectioned off within it.
Such a beautiful house. We had 12 ladies on a spiritual retreat. Plenty of space and comfy beds. We had everything we needed. Great energy in there. It snowed quite heavily and Caroline and partner were digging out paths for our cars. They couldn't help us enough. Fantastic couple !!! The surrounding scenery is amazing. Definitely returning!!!
We had a wonderful holiday in Wales. The house was in the most beautiful spot with stunning views. The house was really well equipped and absolutely brilliant for our children as there was so much to do! The owner Caroline was lovely, and always on hand to help. I'd highly recommend! ,
We spent an amazing family Christmas week here. There was loads to do and the scenery is stunning
This is our third family stay at Pengwern as previously we were made very comfortable, the house is made for families with plenty of space for all and a well equipped very large kitchen. Although the previous guest didnt find the wardrobes within the master suite, there is plenty of hanging space in there. Again the views were stunning emphasised by the morning frosts
Patricia
Everything about our stay was first class, we couldn't fault anything
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pengwern the scenery was absolutely stunning, the house was so well equipped and Caroline the owner is very friendly and helpful. This is definitely on our list of favourite properties.
William Frederick
Thanks so much for accommodating us so well. All of our party thoroughly enjoyed their stay at Pengwern, particularly the younger ones, who were able to express themselves via the Karaoke. All elements of the house suited us perfectly and all agreed on it being a place we would like to return to. Kind regards, Bill.
Awesome place. Hope we can go back some time. Beautiful scenery. Fabulous accommodation. Had the best weekend.
Very well appointed house, good facilities and good communication before arrival. Prompt response to a couple of queries during our stay. The attention to the smaller details that help make a stay away from home easier and more pleasant were also good and welcome, e.g. plenty of tea, coffee, soap, towels, toilet roll etc. Would recommend this house.
This is a lovely old farmhouse and a wonderful find. The photos do not do justice to how amazing the setting and views are. It is just you and the owner's cottage, and stunning views across the valley you can see another cottage across the other side of the valley, but otherwise it is just fields, trees and sheep. Top marks to Caroline as a host extremely helpful both before and during the visit. Her cottage is also set back behind the house about 100yds away on the side you don't really use behind the main photo, so absolutely not instrusive in any way. There is no phone signal, but super fast broadband and a wifi mesh throughout the house, so you can use wifi calling if you really do want to still get those work phone calls. There is so much room as well. A huge snooker room and bar, a 1st floor Pool table and wii games room, a living room with comfy sofas and fireplace, a spare dining room for those tabletop board games or just extra serving space outside the kitchen, and then a large outside patio to take in the amazing view. The master bedroom family suite is HUGE. Walks from the doorstep. ASDA deliver there. Bala about 30mins away. Loads of parking. We were a three generational family get together of 13 and the place was ideal we will be back.
The pictures of Pengwern seriously do not do the views or the house justice! The place is incredible! The owner was so friendly and welcoming. There were 15 of us celebrating a birthday. I was concerned that with the owner living next door we might have made too much noise but she assured us this was no problem at all. Highlights of the property were definitely the snooker and pool rooms, where the groups spent most of our time, though it was also nice to have the cosy sitting room to relax and watch TV in too. We all came away from the weekend absolutely not wanting to leave, and will be back for sure!
The cottage and owner Caroline were both first class. Caroline informed us that if you have an up to date mobile you can set your phone to wi fi calling which then solves the problem of no signal
Stephen
Fantastic house, games room and snooker table came in handy for the rainy days. Caroline was very helpful. Thank you
Neville
Everything was perfect, including the weather. Beautiful house, wonderful location, excellent facilities and a kind and caring host who couldnt do more to make your stay a special one. Look no further
Beautiful property with amazing views over the Welsh hills. All rooms big with loads of space for a large group and the games rooms kept us busy. Caroline the host was also really helpful in the lead up to arriving at the property.
A lovely cottage filled with comfort and all the facilities you need for a big family walking holiday or just enjoy the cottage and the views . Caroline the host very helpful read her book A tall order for a small backpack.A great read.A great part of wales .

We booked Pengwern for our Christmas holiday and there were 4 families. We had an amazing time at and all of us loved the place. Caroline was a great host and she made sure everything was in place when we arrived. I dont think the photos do justice to this beautiful 350 years old cottage. Games room and Snooker room was the most popular rooms for all of us. Pengwern is a kids friendly place. All our kids had a great time and they didn't want to leave the house at the end of our holiday. Overall we highly recommend this place for family holidays.
