The Bothy Reviews

Fabulous house in an amazing location. Would recommend this house for families or large groups like we were.
Geoffrey
Excellent property and well maintained. Route instructions would be much easier to follow if you mentioned that The Bothy is next door to the big house!!
Racheal
The property was very well presented and had everything that we needed for our stay. We came as a large family group including adults, children and a dog. The property catered for all of our needs. My only suggestion would be to add a sign if possible where the 'triangle of grass' is in Wildboarclough directing you to the property. I drove past this several times before realising where I needed to go. Alternatively, there is a signpost at that point directing you to Macc Forrest. Maybe in the direction instructions, it could be included to follow that sign. Overall, we had a fantastic weekend and would definitely return.

The property was great for what we needed. We were disappointed that we were unable to have some other family members come and join us for a few hours as the property seemed perfect for this. Getting in touch with Sykes was very difficult to discuss this issue and unfortunately marred the run up to our getaway and caused a significant amount of uncertainty and stress We also had an unfriendly encounter with a local who did not seem enamoured with visitors to the Bothy. Perhaps this explains the owner's reluctance to allow larger gatherings.
We had an absolutely fabulous family gettogether at The Bothy, 11 adults, 1 child and 2 babies! It was spotless and wonderfully equipped throughout, with great rooms and enormous beds! They even supplied us with extra cots, highchairs and stairgates, which was extremely helpful thanks Audrey. The instructions provided were really helpful and clear, and the House keeper responded very quickly to a query we had about waterheating, which was very helpful and reassuring thanks Marie. The hot tub was fantastic and it became the surprise focal point of our stay. It was such fun!! We also played badminton on the lawn and climbed the local hillside for views as far away as Snowdonia! We would highly recommend The Bothy, it was quiet with beautiful surroundings and the accommodation had everything you might need for a great family holiday. Thank you so much, we just loved it and didn't want to leave!
The Bothy is such a beautiful house, you really feel at home, it has everything you need. The scenery is just stunning! And the hot tub is a bonus but please listen to the warning about the steps, they really do get slippery when wet, I have the bruises to prove it. Apart from that the only moan I have is the time went far to quick, a 4 night break isn't enough.
Debbie
Great place to spend time with family or friends. We were provided with everything we needed plenty of plates and cutlery etc, dishwashers, washing machine and tumble dryer! Hot tub lovely and the setting location stunning. Useful folder of information too on places to visit.
An amazing holiday for all our family in this super property.
Vanessa
Enjoyed a lovely couple of nights here for my mums 80th birthday. A nice clean comfortable house with everything we needed. Only downside was we all got badly bitten from mosquitos.
The Bothy was spotless and the best equipped holiday home that we have stayed in. The log fire gave a cosy feeling and the hot tub was enjoyed by all. We appreciated the daily maintenance. Despite the weather we had a lovely holiday in the large quirky home from home. Thank you.
The property was extremely well equipped the only thing we needed because the weather was so hot, were parasols for the outside tables! ! Otherwise, we all agreed it was the best holiday cottage we had ever stayed in. The location was amazing and the hot tub the star attraction. It comfortably accommodated 12 plus 2 babies. We all thoroughly recommend this property.
I would highly recommend a stay at this property. Everything about our stay was ideal. One quibble maybe a heads up in the information pack about the total lack of phone signal?
Amazing property that offers everything you could want in an utterly beautiful location. The wine & chocolates were a very welcome surprise. Thank you for our stay.
Kathryn
Lovely, big, comfortable house with all amenities you could need. Great views from the house and plenty of walks. Hot tub an added bonus. Would have been helpful to have had more dishwasher tablets and a dishcloth.
A fantastic property to rent in a stunning location. The walk we did was breath taking. We stopped at The Hanging Gate pub, which is worth a visit regardless for the views. We have had the best weekend and will definitely be back. The hot tub is a welcome bonus at the end of a tiring day. It made our weekend. Highly recommended!
It's a great place to visit and stay and we loved it so much we have already rebooked for next year
Rosemary
We had a great weekend at the Bothy with all our family celebrating a special occasion. The house is beautifully furnished the beds are comfortable the kitchen well kitted out for catering for a larger group the hot tub was well maintained and fun. A beautiful part of the world, we would definitely recommend this property.
Debbie
Weve stayed at the bothy a couple of times and have booked again for later in the year, its the best place to stay, comfortable and well equipped, also the surrounding area is beautiful to go out and about in.
The Bothy is a well appointed house, which suited our multi family stay well. Its in a good location with easy access to Macclesfield and Buxton and has many lovely walks within easy reach.
Tracey
We had a fabulous time at the Boffy . It was a really home from home experience. Suited all age groups, from 4 months to 80 years. Excellent facilities and loads of space for all the family . Views were breath taking. We will definitely be returning.
Absolutely beautiful property and location all needs catered for couldn't fault it
We stayed there three years ago so we knew what to expect when we returned. The property's resources were very much appreciated. Thank you!
Elizabeth
Lovely comfortable house Wonderful views of the Peak district Great ... Lovely comfortable house Wonderful views of the Peak district Great facilities Weather was not great but we still had a lovely time Chatsworth was really worth visiting
Steven
This was a superb property in a beautiful location. Communication with the owner was excellent throughout and the staff we met on site were welcoming and helpful. The Bothy was cleaned to a very high standard and well equipped. The hot tub was a real bonus and very welcome after a long days walk. All of our chosen walks could be done from the house. All of our party of 11 thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend The Bothy.
Oh My God what an Amazing property, it was set it beautiful countryside and was so clean and comfortable. All of us in our party could not fauly it at all, we were there to celebrate a 60th and 70th birthday and it really did NOT Disappoint. We will definately be back.
Had a wonderful family stay to celebrate a 30th and 50th birthday, location is absolutely stunning and tranquil! Extremely clean and spacious house, very comfortable, were already looking at booking again later in the year would 100 recommend!
The Bothy was a fabulous place to stay, my whole family loved it, was a fantastic birthday treat, we did'nt want to leave, can't wait till we return again. Best holiday house we have stayed in,
Angela
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was well equipped for the needs of all our party. Thank you for the kitchen welcome pack and the various added extras around the house. Ample towels for use both in the house white and the hot tub orange. Younger family members enjoyed, and made good use of, the hot tub. To get in via the rear entrance we needed to go across the courtyard to the keysafe in the garage. Someone in an adjoining property told us that the courtyard wasn't supposed to be used by The Bothy guests beyond a line of large flowerpots therefore that keysafe wouldn't be available even if the code had been correct for us. The range cooker was very slow to heat up. The Bothy was very well equipped for a large group. The setting was beautiful, peaceful and definitely worth another holiday there.
Louise
This was the perfect house for our family birthday celebration. The house is beautifully furnished and has everything you need. Loads of space and a very relaxing place to be. The hot tub and gorgeous views from the garden make this house extra special. Would recommend to others and would love to return ourselves! Thank you for a wonderful weekend holiday home!
Sharon
Our second visit to the Bothy. Perfect for a large family get together, with lots to do and visit in the area, catering for all different age groups. The Bothy being super comfortable and spacious, and the house keeper very helpful and nothing too much trouble.
We had a lovely stay at The Bothy. Everywhere was clean and well maintained. The hot tub was great. It was delightful to be in the country side with the new born lambs. The 5km round walk up & down Shutlingsloe was a bonus.
Fantastic property in a great location everything there to help you have a brilliant stay with you family to celebrate a special event. We will return but to stay longer next time, many thank.
The cottage was so very well equipped with so many extras we wouldn't even have thought about! Despite poor weather our stay was extremely comfortable in this lovely, spacious, warm house which was more than adequate for our three families to come together. Hot tub was of course an added bonus! Thank you too to the housekeeper who responded extremely quickly when we alerted her that the WiFi had gone down. By the time we came back from our outing it was back on! We would definitely recommend this cottage
This is the second time we have stayed here and it was perfect, its a great place for a big group it has everything you need and its so cosy in autumn. The views are absolutely amazing and there are so many places to visit nearby, we will definitely go again .
Beautiful place very comfortable all bedrooms had comfy beds lovely clean ... Beautiful place very comfortable all bedrooms had comfy beds lovely clean bedding & towels it had absolutely everything you needed There was a lovely complimentary basket left for us Thank you
Shelly
Lovely property, lovely welcome basket. Very clean and beautifully decorated.
Nicola
We had a fantastic stay at the Bothy! The cottage was the perfect size for our group. The Bothy was in an idyllic setting with beautiful views and lovely local walks. The cottage was very clean, tidy and well equipped. The living room had enough space for us all to sit comfortably in the evening, likewise in the dining area. The hot tub was a great bonus, especially with the gorgeous views. It certainly was an enjoyable way to end each day watching the sun go down! The bedroom setup was perfect for our group. However, it is worth noting that one bedroom has a single bed and another accommodated three guests with one single bed and a super king that was kindly separated into two singles by the housekeeper. All the staff we encountered when they were tending to the hot tub were friendly and gave helpful advice on the local area. A perfect and memorable stay! Thank you
Great house, very well equipped with everything you need, good quality bedding, towels and furnishings. Nice and spacious and great surroundings. Hospitality basket a lovely added bonus. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
William
It was my wifes birthday so to find a card and a bottle of Prosecco was a nice touch. We all felt welcome at the property, even the dog for whom bowls, bags and towels were provided by the front door. This property is set in a wonderful location especially if you like the great outdoors. There is plenty of parking and a good space for the children to play and the dog to chase a ball.
As a positive the Bothy is a beautiful home nestled in beautiful countryside, its very well equipped and has the most amazing views my only negative is an issue with the maintenance of the hot tub each morning around 8am, I can fully understand that maintenance and checks need to be done but on our 2nd morning at the Bothy the head housekeeper did the check and we were advised as due to a pair of swimming goggles being left by the hot tub I can assure you these were not actually used in the hot tub that she had the authority to not permit us to use it for the remainder of our stay, she then proceeded to test the water and subsequently placed a notice on the hot tub not to use until after 12pm due to chemicals being added to the water, which I can understand but it was the manner in which the message was relaid to us. To sum my experience up I personally loved the Bothy but I think a certain staff member spoilt our stay.

Peak District National Park -
about 14 Miles
The Peak District National Park is the ideal place to relax and explore.  The stunning scenery will take your breath away and there is the opportunity to take part in ranger led guides and events.  These are ideal if you are new to the area or only staying a short time and want to see the best sights and walks.
Alton Towers - ST10 4DB
about 16 Miles
Of course you can't mention attractions in Staffordshire without featuring the fabulous Alton Towers theme park.  The rides range from thrilling to quite simply terrifying although there are more gentle family rides for the little ones.  All ages are catered for here.  Some of the most famoue rides include Th13teen, Air, The Blade and Nemesis.  There is also a waterpark on site for some splashtastic fun. Look out for seasonal events taking place throughout the year such as Wonderful Winter, Pirate Weekend and The Ultimate Fireworks Event.  Check out their website for the latest admission costs and save money by booking your tickets online.
Gullivers Kingdom - DE4 3NT
about 20 Miles
This is a top class theme park with plenty to do for the whole family.  From thrilling rides to more gentle activities for the little ones this place is ideal.  The best thing is that 50% of their attractions are under cover so the British weather needn't spoil the fun.
Heights of Abraham - DE4 3PT
about 20 Miles
This unique attraction combines an array of activities.  If you have a look on their website there are some good video clips which give an even better idea of what this attraction is all about.  Some of the highlights include the Cable Car system which is actually Britain's first alpine style cable car system.  You are transported from the valley floor right up above where you can enjoy superb Dewent Valley Views.  You can also stroll around 60 acres of wooded hillside on foot to see an array of birds and wildlife.
Gulliver's Kingdome - WA5 9YZ
about 20 Miles
Gulliver's Kingdome is a family friendly theme park offering many attractions for children of all ages. The site is rather unique and features a huge array of rides including log flumes, roller coasters and pirate ships. For the little ones there are rides such as the veteran cars and the balloon wheel and Diego and Dora the Explorer are on hand to make sure they are having a great time. Between the 21st and 31st of October the park becomes a spooky Halloween spectacular with a range of shows and fireworks to enjoy. Standard prices are £12.00 for adults and children over 90cm. Group booking discounts are available.
British Wildlife Rescue Centre - TN8 7AR
about 25 Miles
This is a really unique opportunity to see the fantastic work going on at this centre.  The purpose of the British Wildlife Rescue Centre is to treat and care for injured wildlife which cannot be released into the wild.  Many of the animals are brought to the centre by members of the public or the RSPCA.  Visit their website to see the picture gallery and to find out how to help if this is something which interests you.  There are also regular fundraising events such as the Sponsered Leg Wax.
Go Ape Cheshire - WA16 6RW
about 26 Miles
Out of all of the Go Ape! courses the one in Cheshire is the most spread out and it takes staff ten minutes to patrol the site on bike - which gives a good indication of the size of this place.  If you're looking for an adventurous and memorable day out then Go Ape is highly recommended.  Trek through the treetops, swing between the trees and enjoy zip wire rides all as part of your experience.  This attraction opens every day from the end of March to end October and is open on weekends in November.  Go Ape Cheshire is closed every Tuesday except school holidays.
Gulliver's World Theme Park - WA5 9YZ
about 27 Miles
This is a very popular theme park with three different locations.  The theme park in Warrington contains not only the theme park but also Gullivers Splash Zone and Gullivers Star Studios.  The Solash Zone is a fully heated indoor water play factory fun for all ages which will appeal on rainy days.  Throughout the year there are seasonal events too such as the Halloween and Fireworks event taking place from 23rd to 31st October.  You can book online to save time and secure your tickets during busy periods.  Over 50% of the rides are actually under cover so you don't need to worry about the British weather spoiling the fun.
Denby Visitor Centre - DE5 8NX
about 28 Miles
