Bracken Howe Lodge Reviews

Firstly the camera work makes this place look very spacious, imo this accommodation is suited to 4 occupants at most . On arrival we found there is no curtain at the front door ,which is right opposite both bedroom doors ,luckily there was no one occupying the opposite lodge . When we went to cook on the first night my wife had to spend 40 mins cleaning the oven ,as oven was not clean at all ,we do have photos if disputed on wife's phone ,we found an empty bubble bath bottle down the back of the bath , several cobwebs and a cake wrapper in the cupboard upstairs where the upstairs hoover is stored ,which would have been easy to see if you were to use the hoover . We left a day early as both double beds had mattresses that had seen better days and were not kind to my wife's back , we slept on the two single beds for 2 nights as the beds are higher and the mattresses are newer and had to bring the the blind from upstairs to provide some privacy at the front door . The lodge is set in quite a nice area but I think would be quite busy if all lodges were fully occupied ,but as it was quiet this was not an issue . The kitchen is well equipped with very good appliances un clean oven already mentioned , perhaps bigger tvs in all rooms . The hi light was the hot tub which was most welcome after a walk We have stayed with sykes before and enjoyed it very much but this time not so much .

Absolutely Wonderful! Wellequipped, spacious and such peaceful surroundings, we spotted squirrels, bunnies, alas no deer. The children loved the hottub it made every day perfect. Great trips to Whitby we recommend the park and ride. Staithes beach and the hidden castle at Mulgrave. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. People at reception were so nice and helpful. Lovely welcome package. A hidden Gem.
A lovely property that had everything we needed. The roaming chickens were lovely to watch and the woodland walks were very peaceful
Daniel
Outstanding accommodation. The kids loved the hot tub and the chickens. We loved the lodge and the woodland setting. Just what we all needed. We were undesturbed the whole week of our stay. Only 15 minutes drive away from fabulous beaches and even less for evening meals. We will definitely be back.

The lodge was very clean. Welcome pack was very sweet, enjoyed the bickies. Perfect time away, so peaceful. We have been everywhere. Whitby park and ride is a good way to get to Whitby without worrying about parking. The Witchers Post Inn Egton village is fab place to eat. Highly recommend the steam train Goathland to Pickering.
Wonderful lodge in a tranquil environment. All equipment you would ever need. Comfortable beds. Great bathrooms. Hot tub enjoyed by us. Witching Post pub down the road is fantastic with great meals at good prices. Whitby and the coast only 5 miles away. And in Yorkshire!! What more could you ask for!!
Beautiful Lodge & location amongst the trees! Great days out, lots done in a short space of time. Lodge lovely and clean. Very pleasant place to stay. Thank you for the welcome bag. Fab meals at The Witching Post Lovely well recommended! Thank you for making our stay so lovely.
We had a great time at the lodge. From the outside the lodge is starting to look just a little worn in but once you step through the door the nice open plan living area worked really well and felt very luxurious. The only builds wed have were the beds themselves, though spacious werent very comfortable for us too soft and supporting so both have left with some backache There was also building work taking place during our stay which we werent informed about looks like new access being created for additional lodges close by so check when youre booking as does interrupt the tranquility when youre relaxing in the hot tub. Hot tub was great for us as a 2, be mindful if youre a party of 6 that its a 34 person tub. Plenty big enough for us, but would be very snug for 6. Overall the lodge worked really well for us, and despite never fully working out the temperature to cool the bathrooms a little the velux windows throughout upstairs made it easy to regulate.
Rachel
Such a beautiful and clean modern lodge with everything you could possibly need for your stay. I had a very peaceful and a very enjoyable short break in wonderful surroundings. All instructions were very clear and quick responses when I asked questions via text. I would definitely recommend.

This has been on my bucket list to visit with some of the family for some time and the last 3 days have excelled expectation. Thank you so much for a wonderful 3 night stay at your beautiful lodge. the accommodation has been immaculate and well equipped. My husband and myself had a seasonal caravan here for 15 years, and due to ill health we had to leave in 20132014. Just when the lodges were going up in Kieron and Lisa's early days. It was great excitement for us all. Alan and I practically lives here in the summer and have many happy memories here with ours 3 grandchildren.

Had an amazing long weekend celebrating the 50th Birthdays. The lodge is beautiful, the hot tub's lovely & the beds comfy. Thank you for the welcome pack! Loved the whole area & friendly chickens Thank You
Comfortable, clean, spacious and well equipped lodge in beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Plenty of room for our family of three. We loved the mezzanine level with comfortable bed and modern ensuite. The other bedrooms were a good size and the family bathroom with the free standing bath was lovely. The hot tub is a great edition and we managed to use it every day even though the weather wasn't brilliant. Although the wooden decking outside and on the doorstep gets very slippy in the rain. We struggled with the television at first and there is a lack of plug sockets in the living area. The kettle could also do with a descale. Great location for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. Highly recommended the witching post inn for a Sunday lunch! Overall a brilliant place for a quiet and relaxing break. Bring some feed for the chickens!
Richard
Very relaxing loverly place to stay
My family and i had a week in this lovely lodge 5 adults and 2 under 1s. ..plenty of room everything we could need hot tub was wonderful peaceful and quiet site ,lodge surrounded by trees...would highly recommend this place we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Overall cleanliness extremely poor, eg , pots and pans greasy and dirty, cushions on sofa all stained and grubby, handles on drawers in bedrooms loose and dirty inside, had to clean both toilets ourselves, all floors dirty, dishwasher door broken really dangerous if a child opened it,stayed at ladycross before in another lodge and all fine, you advertise it as five star accommodation but its no where near that , great location but accommodation really disappointing.
Mandy & Richard
Wow what a peaceful place, so chilled. Lodge lovely and clean, everything you need. thank you for the gift pack, will be back soon

Great week, loved the lodge, fantastic hot tub for relaxing, loved watching the chickens roam. Peaceful setting in the woodland. Lots of day trips to Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay. Thank you for the welcome pack, amazing Yorkshire Brack.

A Wonderful week! Such a beautiful place fully equipped, wanting for nothing! The setting is amazing. We were so chilled during our holiday and feel very relaxed. Only drawback for us old folk was that we struggled with the TV. Our younger people also couldn't do it. However, would we return you bet your life we would! Thanks for the gift pack as well. Chickens were a bonus we even bought special hen food from Whitby pet shop!
Nice Place Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park is lovely, we enjoyed many walks and enjoyed seeing the wildlife. The park is clean, tidy and quiet. The lodge is lovely and overall we enjoyed our stay. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Although the hot tub is relaxing, we had to bring our own towels which is unusual and there was no where to hang them up whilst in the hot tub. The decking was slippy in places, because no sunshine managed to dry the decking because of the trees coverage.
The lodge was lovely, it had everything that you would need for your stay there. The upstairs bedroom the only plug socket I could see that was free was located in a awkward spot, could not dry my hair there. Unless I missed one. One more gripe, the owners had no control over this. Every time we went to use the hot tub we was attacked by flies making it impossible to use it, we eventually went and bought a fly catcher. A little goodie bag was left for us at the beginning of our stay, nice touch. Overall nice place to stay.
The Hannah Family
Our second visit here and enjoyed it every bit as much! Reccommend The Stables for delicious food. Trenchers' fish and chips also delicious. Enjoyed a walk fro Robin Hoods Bay into Whitby. Lots of fun exploring. Thank you!
We had an amazing stay at Bracken Howe! We were lucky enough to have perfect weather too! The lodge was perfect and all 6 of us had a great time. We will definitely be back and would 100 recommend for others. It was a good distance away from places to be quiet but also easy to travel in when we wanted to. Also enjoyed walking to the Wheatsheaf in Egton. No footpath though so a bit precarious on a fast road with a pram but the staff and the food were great!
The Case And Bridge Families
Thank you! So well equipped with everything. Loved the hot tub. Highly recommend the Wheatsheaf for a superb meal. We had eggs from the site shop chickens DELICIOUS. We will be back.
Mrs J Sietniekas
We've had a lovely break here. The furnishings are of a high standard and we were very comfortable. The location is fabulously peaceful and quiet. We loved the hot tub! This is well situated for touring. Thank you! Highly recommended.
J And M Strachan
We had a lovely break. The hot tub is so relaxing. The peaceful surroundings are nice. The lodge is in the right location. Jim took to the chickens, they're friendly and started to follow him. Would recommend the Witching Post pub. Thank you we will come back soon we hope.

Thank you so much. The place is amazing, nice and clean. Thank you for the welcome pack, very nice. We will be back next year we hope. We enjoyed every minute of it! Thank you PS nice to have a bit of snow lots whilst in the hot tub

Edwards/Bentleys/Smalls
60th Birthday Celebration Excellent social space, very well equipped, great location. Highly recommend a visit to Magpie Cafe in Whitby and Wheatsheaf in Egton and dining pods at Mallyan Spout. Hot tub great for relaxing. Lovely peaceful site.
Claire
The lodge itself was absolutely stunning just a shame that the cleaning company or people you use do not know how to do a thorough clean between guests. Food and dirt was down the sides of the sofa Upon moving the sofa because I dropped some money there was food and dirt and lots of dust underneath. Underneath the beds there was probably 2 inches of dust and this obvyhad not been cleaned in a while.
Dianne
Lovely lodge with all the amenities needed. Gorgeous setting and fabulous location. 10 mins from Whitby and only an hour from York. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Harrisons/Sundy
Fantastic week, lovely lodge, well equipped with the luxury of the hot tub. Good place to visit the lovely attractions of Whitby, lovely Sunday lunch at the Wheatsheaf and steak night at the Witching Post Inn. The hot tub was a great end to a lovely day of walking. P.S. Robin Hood's Bay Brilliant and The Fish Box Fab!!!
The Brewins
Had a lovely week stay in the lodge. Loved Robin Hood's Bay and York. Fully equipped with everything we needed. Hot tub was amazing even in the evening rain. Lovely setting. Def coming back!
Christopher
Excellent well equipped lodge. Hot tub was a delight. Only addition would be a brush for outside to clear the cones and leaves from the decking. Would definitely recommend.
Kathryn, Chris, Alex And Emily
Lovely lodge, very spacious in a great location. The hot tub was great. Local town of Whitby was very nice and worth the trip.

The Grainary Wildlife Farm - YO25 3HS
about 11 Miles
Located in Harwood Dale Village, North Yorkshire we think this attraction makes a superb family day out and couples will also enjoy the nature walks in the area.  There are 6 nature walks in total surrounding the farm so walkers and lovers of the outdoors will be in their element. Some of our favourite walks include the Spring Flowers, Pond and Village walk which takes around 35 minutes, and the Meadow and Trees walk which takes one hour.
Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary - YO12 6RP
about 17 Miles
If you are enjoying a lodge break in the Yorkshire Moors and Coast then a day trip to the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary highly recommended. This centre is one of the regions most popular attractions and is educational as well as fun. Visitors will enjoy a journey beneath the waves, meeting many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures of the deep. As well as mighty sharks and beautiful rays guests can get up close to some more common creatures including star fish and can also meet the otters, seals and penguins at feeding time. The site also has children's play area and picnic tables as well as a restaurant and souvenir shop. Family tickets cost £46.80 but the Tourist Information Centres in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey often offer fantastic discounts.
Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW
about 17 Miles
Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
Betton Farm Visitor Centre - TF9 3PS
about 17 Miles
Betton Farm Visitor Centre is the ideal attraction close to the North Yorkshire coastal town of Scarborough. This animal farm has all the cute farm animals you would expect to see and will appeal to younger children especially.  A great place to both play and learn we think the Betton Farm Visitor centre is great value for money.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs.  Some of the highlights of the day might include meeting Sofie the Shetland Pony and Henry the goat, as well as the pot bellied pigs called Porky and Hammy.
Sea Life Marine Sanctuary - YO12 6RP
about 17 Miles
Located in the Scalby Mills area of Scarborough this makes a fun family day out for those who are interested in marine life. The fantastic ocean tank is well worth seeing - it's been transformed into a Turtle Reef and you can see an amazing array of colourful reef fish and coral. You may also catch a glimpse of the tropical sharks and turtles. Offering good value for money this is a day out with a difference and an all weather attraction.
Peasholm Park - YO12 6QQ
about 17 Miles
This attraction is ideal for sunny days as the beautiful park is ideal for wandering out and taking in the scenery.  You can hire boats including rowing boats and canoes to enjoy the views from the water.  The pedalos with the dragon heads are always a popular choice too. Look out for special events including the Battle of Peasholm Park Naval Battle which has been described as a "must see".  You can also take a ride on the North Bay Railway which will delight children.
Castle Howard - YO60 7DA
about 23 Miles
Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. As well as exploring the castle visitors can enjoy attractios including the unique Land Train - the best way to see the entire park. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.
Yorkshire Lavender - YO60 6PB
about 24 Miles
Yorkshire Lavender is an amazing award winning attraction offering breathtaking panoramic views of York, a Café, Plant Nursery and Lavender Gardens. The 60 acre site is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is an excellent choice for a day trip.
