Villa Marina Reviews

What a wonderful property, we have had the most amazing and peaceful time at Villa Marina. The garden and outside space is fantastic, with a choice of dining areas and hot tub with a view! Early mornings were spectacular with a sunrise we could never tire of from the gorgeous airy bedroom with comfortable bed and linens. Had chance to meet the lovely owners on our last day. We will most definitely try to be back sometime! Thank you!
Andrew
Fantastic house in beautiful surroundings, the views in the morning on bright clear days were stunning, at night time we could see accros the bay to blackpool tower. The house was warm and very well equiped including washing powder etc. Instructions for all equipment was provided. A great base for the lakes and seaside days out, local beaches such as bardsea were well worth a visit. Since our group were late fifties to late eighties the small twin room was not really suitable but it would be no problem for younger groups. All in all highly recommended.
Jonathan
We took the whole family for a week, staying at the Villa Marina and found it a fantastic large home in a great location. It was clean and very well presented with plenty of space for all ten family members. Indeed we rarely used the second living space upstairs as we had enough space for everyone downstairs. The open plan kitchen area and wrap around conservatory space with comfy seating was as good as it looks in the photos and the main place for us when we were at home. The gardens were beautiful and the numerous outdoor seating options utilised to look at the views of morecambe bay. Would most definately recommend
Pamela
Great location, superb property, well laid out with excellent facilities. Bits that would help going forwards, more dishwasher tablets please, also no rinse and or salt which it needed badly. Need something outside to dry washing on,grass badly needed cutting, nasty big nettles.Jacuzzi bath drains very slowly, needs drain unblocker put down plughole. Found 2x cups chipped ,1x glass cracked and 1x plate chipped, all hidden at the back of the cupboards. Aga oven shelves were dirty. Hot tub was dirty, cleaned when there but too quickly got dirty again.Having said this would definitely book again..would have appreciated being able to access fishing gear etc as was advertised when we booked this in January but nothing was accessible during our stay JulyAugust.
Andrea
These things have been mentioned in previous reviews but the issues have not been resolved. It is a beautiful property and is in an amazing location and it is such a shame that the cleanliness lets it down. The house requires a good deep clean. Greasy things covered in dust on kitchen work tops. Things which have not been cleaned properly in cupboards and drawers. Cobwebs internally and externally at the entrance area. I am not a big fan of all the instructions all over the house either. I believe that liquid soap should be available in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. I know in summer we should be able to rely on the sun to warm the property but with the aga not switched on and the central heating locked at 21.0c we were really cold on the first 2 nights of our stay so we reached for the wood to start a fire in the lounge but no started pack was left for us. So we had to make a trip to Barrow for fire wood and blankets, not ideal. Also in the kitchen lots of the mugs and plates have chips or glazing cracks. I have stayed in lots of rental properties and this one just felt a bit below par. I think every other one has provided at least a bottle of milk on arrival some have provided much more cakes wine chocolate and toiletries in the bathrooms. So in conclusion we enjoyed our stay but with these things attend to it would have been a truly remarkable experience.
Christine
A fantastic house in a very special location. We had pretty bad weather including storm Dennis but being able to sit and watch the sea and the wildlife from the full length windows was great. There were a few issues when we arrived but these were promptly fixed. We were a party of three generations and all agreed this was the best house we have stayed in. The very large kitchenfamily roomconservatory with its big windows is a great space but the cosy lounge with open fire was appreciated in the evenings. Lovely spacious comfy bedrooms and four bathrooms, not forgetting the hot tub which was appreciated even in the stormy weather!
Louise
A home away from home, Villa Marina is beautiful, very spacious and has gorgeous views of the sea. Perfect for our extended family Christmas holiday.
Spacious, beautiful, the views are fantastic. A glorious holiday place to stay for 10 people a family gathering. The Aga and electric oven were a bit of a challenge and the Hot Tub needed more water but Cheerful Kevin came to our aid
We had a fabulous holiday at the villa marina. The house and views are spectacular. It is a great place to relax. We would definitely recommend and we hope to return. Many thanks.
Pauline
Everything we wanted and more. Have already recommended this property to friends. We spent most of the week in the sun room just watching the sea. It was lovely and warm with the aga on. The house was so relaxing and we instantly felt at home.
Already raised many issues for our stay with the owner but they were not entertained and we were all insulted in the way the owner suggest how we use the jacuzzi. None of the bathroom were furnished with soapshampoo. The GAS cooker ignition did not work. To mention a few.
Elizabeth
One of the best places we've ever rented the pictures don't do it justice. The views are unreal, from the garden & from the house itself, direct on Morecambe Bay, & a really beautiful garden full of flowers. From part of the first floor is open plansunroom, with water views all around. Nice snug living room at the back of the house. Plenty of places to sit both inside & outside benches, sofas, table, a little hidden deck right on the water In case you're confused by the photos we were the back of Villa Marina is attached to the Victorian brick house, but they are very separate, with a fence, and both house & garden are private. Nice hot tub, too. We took the ferry to Piel and drove into lovely Ulverston. We'd rented a place from someone else that turned out not to be as advertised & Sykes helped us arrange this at the last minute. We couldn't believe our luck.
Deborah
Lovely place but when the weather turned cold you could not turn the heating on or up. As I said when I phoned on landing a spindle was broken you could see it had been glued previously as it was right on the bend it was not safe for young children. It was lovely the views were fantastic. Would stay there again.
Great property as described in a wonderful location. Enjoyed the hot tub very much. Is there a way I can contact the owner about a couple of things? For example we found a Nintendo Switch under one of the sofas. We weren't sure if this was meant to be in the property or whether it may have belonged to a previous guest? Also one of our group lost a set of keys. It would be great if they are found that they could be posted back to us. Thank you!
Hello, before I mention some of the feedback, I should say the house was beautiful and as described, and the only real issue we encountered was the lack of Aga Cooker. Additional examples for improvement Missing parts of instructions for induction hob Broken shower door back upstairs room Leaking front door in heavy rain Lots of dirt and dust e.g layer of dust in wardrobe upstairs and cobwebs by deckchairs in conservatory and cobwebs above bed in small room with dusty wardrobe. Lots of cobwebs everywhere Drain flys in bathroom with broken shower door Hot tub dirty lots of bits floating in there. Dirty glasses and cups when we arrived and a few chipped A few bulbs out No soap in the house when we arrived No fire lighters, no gas in the lighter to light the fire. Again, overall, we had an excellent time, but end up spending more on Takeaways and meals out that we would have preferred. Thank you for your time. Aaron
We enjoyed a lovely stay, the property was so much bigger than it looked in the pictures and was a beautiful place. The location was ideal, right next to the sea. We had everything we needed, the hot tub was great, although a couple of jets seemed faulty, but it didnt hinder our enjoyment. The house was clean, spacious, and easy to find. We had a great meal at the Clarkes hotel down the road, and the nearest shop was about a 5 minute drive away. The house is right next to Piel Ferry and we were lucky enough to take a trip to Piel island, which was a great and cheap day out. We had a bit of a nightmare on the day of leaving as my car decided to break down. Whilst waiting for the RAC, the caretakers arrived. They were really kind and understanding. The gentleman insisted on helping me jump start the car, which thankfully worked! They were really nice people and I cant thank them enough for going above and beyond to help us out of the pickle we were in. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
Geraldine
Property was absolutely amazing and catered from all ages in our party from age 89 to 2 years. On the downside however, I feel not being allowed into the property till 5pm when there is your first day gone and having to vacate at 9am was very challenging given the ages in our party. Im not satisfied that this is for cleaning purposes as although the beds were made up, lots of other parts of the house were clean but not thoroughly as lots of surface dust.
The property is amazing. A real gem of a property and a truely indulgent treat. The view of the sea through the windows and from the garden is mesmerising is all weathers. The house is beautifully designed and a fantastic space for family groups. I am not sure if we will be in a position to afford another holiday there but hopefully one day we can. Roa Island is a treasure.
Absolutely stunning property for a girls weekend. The views are unreal and the house is just gorgeous. The only downside of our stay was that we arrived at 1647 check in is at 5pm and were greeted by the rudest cleaning staff. We pulled up to the property and seen a few young people entering so we asked one if them is this the right place because weve just seen some others walk in. They replied erm yes and those young people are making YOUR bedsand checkin is at 5pm you know???. We waited outside overlooking the view until 1730 because they hadnt finished but as they were leaving offered us a late checkout on the last day. Also, AGA cooking facility kept going off so never got a chance to cook in it. Hot tub also required maintenance during our stay because it wasnt hot enough. Other than any of that, i wasnt put off and would 100 love to stay again after the cleaning staff had cheered up a little because it doesnt set the right tone when youre only just arriving at your destination.
Rochelle
The property is amazing! ! The views are breathtaking!!! We never got tired of Watching the sea come and go everyday ! We watched the bats feeding most early evenings as well which the kids loved. The bats come really close to the patio doors, so it was a great view. The house has everything you could wish for. Very clean and all needs catered for. The only negative and I really had to think of one is that the toaster could do with an update it was hit and miss on if it worked or not. Other than that the house was perfect! Thank you so much. We hope to be back.
Nadera
Amazing property with a beautiful view! The pictures don't do it justice.
Lovely place to stay, really idyllic with it being right on the seafront. House had everything that was needed for a large family to stay in, ample bedroom space, large hottub, great kitchen facilities etc. Only thing to note is that there's no shop within walking distance of the property, however there are large supermarket chains and other conveniences within a 10 minute drive to Barrow itself. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of booking, we had a great time and thinking of booking again next year!
This is a fantastic property to enjoy a peaceful getaway. Its a very comfortable spacious accommodation. Views are idyllic and its a great position for exploring the lakes. The only niggles was the space above the aga needs decobwebbing. The TV fire stick was difficult to operate, as the remote was in poor condition and the hot tub needs more regular maintenance when people have booked a weeks holiday.
Beautiful , spacious and very well furnished house in a fantastic location with stunning views across Morecambe Bay. Both lounges were extremely comfortable with the added benefit of an open fire in the downstairs one. The beds were also extremely comfortable and the view from the master bedroom was outstanding especially from the balcony. The kitchen area was also spacious with a large dining table perhaps the chairs could be a little bit bigger as you are quite low down when eating and had an Aga , electric hob and oven and microwave, every utensil you could possibly need was provided . There is a seating area incorporated into the kitchen area where you can sit and take in the views through the panoramic windows , there is also a sunroom where you can again just chill and take in the views. The massive garden which contains a fantastic hot tub led directly to the sea but be aware that if you have little ones keep an eye on them as there is no fence between the garden and the sea. We loved staying here and I'm sure anyone else staying here will feel the same . The photos of the house do not do it justice and although they are brilliant , its much better in real life. Thankyou for a wonderful holiday.
Great place to stay. Amazing views of the beach. The house its self is lovely so much room inside and out. The bedrooms are beautiful with lovely views to wake up to. Highly reccomend for families or for a group of friends to stay.
We had a lovely time in the house, its a great property. I would love to tell the owners that their kitchen table chairs are just too low for the table, making eating feel very strange! This has been mentioned by others in the guest book as well. It is really annoying! The standard of cleanliness was poor, significant amounts of dust, dead insects next to sofas and chairs for example. No problem with the very early checkout time of 0900, but requiring the dishwasher to be empty rather than on seems mean! The lack of recycling at the property is also strange, unless the waste company recycle it later? This should be made clear in the paperwork, which also had the wrong day for the bin, meaning we almost missed it! Overall though a great house, as described, peaceful and pretty location and a great place to relax.
An amazing large house, with plenty of room both downstairs and upstairs. Lots of outdoor space also, with gorgeous views and setting Would definitely come again
Beautiful home in a gorgeous setting
The Villa Marina was spacious enough for three generations of our family to enjoy some precious time together. The bedroom with the balcony opening out to the sea is spectacular all of the other rooms are spacious and well appointed. There are three large living areas for folk to do their own activities if they want and a huge kitchen to come together for meals. Our week was absolutely roasting hot and we spent most of each day playing with the children in the garden, and watching all the activities going on in the bay. When the sandy mud flats are exposed twice a day, the sight of an occasional person digging for cockles or sailor fixing the exposed hull of his boat is such a contrast to the kayaks, windsurfers, regattas, fishing boats and dredgers that fill the views when the tide is in. We had an online grocery delivery to the house and topped up with treats from the The Bosun's Locker cafe a stone's throw away. It is a great house and we were all very grateful for the opportunity to get together and relax in comfort.
A fantastic house in an amazing location. The entire property had everything needed for an enjoyable stay.
Kathryn
Six of our family enjoyed a three generation stay at Villa Marina. The Villa is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and well equipped. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and cooking on the Aga. However it was the location of the property that will remain in our memories. We sat for hours watching the tide ebb and flow, the coming and going of the sailing boats and fishing fleet. The children loved the direct access to the sea for paddling and stone skimming. Also a perfect location for birdwatching and walking. This has been a very special holiday, thank you for sharing your fabulous Villa with the Charlesworth family.
Honestly I couldn't recommend this property enough. We had a fantastic family stay wit our 3 daughters and the house was big enough for them to have space when they needed it, but not so big that we lost any of them. The garden and hot tub were a fantastic way to relax and enjoy the amazing views. This property also had one of the best equipped kitchen I have ever come across, it was a pleasure to cook in, I especially loved the Aga. The location of the property is perfect. When inside the gates of the property, including the garden, it is so quiet you could be on your own private island. However a 30 second walk and there is a lovely cafe and there are several pubs within a short drive or even walk if you wanted. The property is ideally located for people looking to explore the Lake District, but escape to somewhere quiet at the end of the day. Barrow in furness is short drive away, with plenty of shops, restaurants and attractions. We also found that the property had many justeat options available for delivery. I honestly loved this house, we had an amazing time and can't wait to stay here again.
Location of the property and views were amazing ! ! Property had everything a family would need on a vacation.
Christina
The group of us had a fantastic time, weather was amazing, great location and the property was clean, well looked after and had everything we needed. We recommend this place so highly.
A fantastic house in a very special location. We had pretty bad weather including storm Dennis but being able to sit and watch the sea and the wildlife from the full length windows was great. Perfect for the occasion views spectacular. Enough room to find you own little space and great rooms to all sit together as one big group.

Lovely cottage and really spacious for everyone. Fresh clean towels and bedding provided and small toiletries in all the bathrooms. Will definitely be staying again and recommending Sykes cottages also as really helpful staff with any questions that I had asked on there app chat.

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
