Woodthorpe Cruck Cottage Reviews

Samantha
Great secluded cottage, very clean and had everything we needed. Having the washing machine and dryer was a huge help and the hot tub was a bonus. Hope to return again.
We had a great stay in this lovely property. Visited lots of places from here including Chatsworth House, Heights of Abraham, Dovetale Stepping Stones, Mam Tor and Peak Wildlife Park. The cottage was well equipped, very comfortable and the hot tub was great after a busy day. The welcome box was also a lovely addition. Just remember to take a shaver adapter for shaver or electric toothbrush. Luckily we took manual brushes too. Would definitely return if visiting the area again or recommend to friends and family.
We have just returned from a lovely weekend stay in this beautiful house. We have had such an amazing weekend celebrating our birthdays, so much so we have just rebooked to return next year. Cannot thank Steve and team enough, lovely welcome basket, house is beautifully restored and has lovely finishing touches and everything you need is there. Lots of laughs in the hot hub, can't wait to return next year!
Lyndsey
We would highly recommend this cottage. Beautiful property with a secluded location and lovely views. The thoughtful little extras from the owners were very much appreciated. Thank you.
Had a really lovely stop. ..easy to find...Great views and walks...fully recommend especially with the hot tub....very central to explore...
We had a fabulously chilled weekend away at Woodthorpe Cruck. The welcome hamper was amazing, and everything was really clean. Loved being in the country side. Would highly recommend.
Spacious rooms, serene locale and ideally located for activities for the whole family. Lumsdale falls, Matlock park and Heights of Abraham were highlights of our stay. Fresh breads and cakes on offer at the quaint vending machine system at the entrance to the property. Forgot kids' TV connector, which the hosts kindly agreed to dispatch via mail!! Amazing experience and highly recommended!
Steven
Lovely place and surroundings, the squeaky 1st floor could do with being looked at. And the twin room roof light would benefit from a blackout blind.
Great stay at this lovely property. Good facilities and nice little touches provided like fresh bread and cake on arrival. Beautiful and peaceful location.
This is a brilliant booking. The cottage is gorgeous, and a great location. Close enough to walk to the local village and a short drive to the town for shops and lots of walks around aswell as a drive into the peaks. Lots of space and room in the cottage to be comfortable without feeling on top of each other. We are looking at going back again next year.
Stuart
Great property but would really benefit from a sign at the bottom of the lane as both us and the taxis found it extremely difficult to find.
Alaynia
Fantastic short break from start to finish. The setting was idyllic , the cottage was beautiful , great facilities. Cant wait to return.
Shannon
Amazing place, highly recommend
Jennifer
Lovely cottage equipped with everything we could need in the kitchen. Great use of the hot tub, robes would be a great addition. Perfect location for both local walks or a short drive and your in the peaks.
Debbie
Absolutely lovely cottage, everything there you could possibly need, lovely ... Absolutely lovely cottage, everything there you could possibly need, lovely views, in the middle if no where, very rustic with wooden beams, beds extremely comfy and the hot tub was fab, will definitely be returning x
Absolutely amazing accomadation, could not fault and would definitely recommend
Kristina
Well equipped and well appointed cottage for a group of 6. Lovely kitchen and furnishings, plenty of crockery and utensils. We had pizzas delivered one night, and got a taxi there and back to a pub no problem. Hot tub and towels very nice. Gorgeous rural location. The only downside was the terrible smell emanating from the downstairs wet room has been mentioned on previous reviews This rendered that room unusable for us, so all 6 had to use the upstairs bathroom. Otherwise a nice weekend stay
Beautiful location and a very well equipped house. Hot tub was big, and the house was lovely and warm. Although the house is surrounded by fields and feels very private, it is only 6 minutes drive to a big supermarket.
We had such a wonderful stay at Woodthorpe Cruck Cottage, it's super cosy with tons of home comforts included we definitely overpacked! The welcome package was a fab touch and so thoughtful. The beds are also really comfy, we slept like logs. The kitchen and utility room is well stocked and every small detail is thought of. The location is peaceful and secluded, although supermarkets are just a short drive away for grabbing any essentials. We also had a lovely afternoon tea at Stretton Hall Farm nearby I'd definitely recommend stopping by! The only small downsides was the underfloor heating was a bit too warm, even on the lower setting we ended up opening the windows and doors a couple of times not exactly a big issue at all. There was also an occasional sulphurlike smell from the sink and shower drains, but we put this down to the rural location. Overall, we'd not hesitate to visit again in the future and would highly recommend the cottage to others.
Rachel
Great secluded position, beautiful cottage more than adequately equipped for our party of six. Local walks on the doorstep all in all a fabulous stay and a cottage to which we will return
Sheila
Lovely spacious cottage in a peaceful location. Handy for local tourist attractions. Hot tub an added bonus and great to come back to after a day out and about.
Louise
A really lovely place and the location also fantastic nice and rural. It has quirks of an old cottage in a rural location but the underfloor heating was a welcome treat! Hot tub great too. Recommend adding some slabs between the back door and the hot tub so you can walk across more easily! Thanks again for a great stay
Rachel
Such a beautiful place! Peaceful and beautifully restored cottage with everything you need including a lovely hot tub. Communication was great with the owners who answered my questions when needed. Views were fab, nothing better than sitting in the evening listening to owls hooting. Definitely a change from the main road we live on! Lots of info about the cottage and surrounding areas. Only slight negative was there is an issue with drain smell now and again and the washing machine and tumble are a little dated but none of which spoiled the stay. Will definitely go back and recommend!
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage. The property is spacious and comfortable, with all the amenities you need for a stress free stay. The owners have thought of everything you might need and also left a rather lovely welcome basket. The hot tub was a lovely bonus. There are towels for this so you dont need to bring anything. The views were wonderful and the kids enjoyed seeing the cows and the tractors every now and then while they played in the very well kept garden. The location is perfect for getting to all the Derbyshire attractions. My only feedback would be that the hoover could do with updating as its not great at picking up the crumbs on the kitchen floor. Other than that, a truly lovely stay and we hope to return again. Would definitely recommend this wonderful cottage.
Merrik
We had a lovely stay in Woodthorpe Cruck. Nice quiet location, well equipped cottage and the hot tub. Lovely area too and convenient for anywhere in the Peaks. Watch out for the squeaky floorboards though!
A lovely house, plenty of room and really comfortable. Good facilities. It would be nice if the floors and doors weren't quite so creaky, but otherwise great.
Elliott
A lovely place to relax and get away from a busy city life, especially with the hot tub and 100 acres of field to gaze across. Very spacious, always warm due to the underfloor heating and provided a peaceful night sleep. The welcome basket with produce from the local farm was a nice touch also. The only negative would be the cleanliness, namely plates and glasses that still had food residue on when we arrived and smells coming from almost every drain and tap in the house. Fridge and dishwasher could do with being replaced also due to wear and tear. There are cobwebs and creaky floorboards but that is understandable for a house that old. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to a comfortable break from a stressful life.
Lindsey
The cottage was gorgeous and we had an amazing stay here. We were allowed an earlier get in and a later check out which was a lovely surprise. Beautiful stay. Was only missing a few bits that would have been useful like sponges for washing up and salt but easily picked up at the nearby shops! Perfect stay
We had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed it. The owners were super helpful with letting us know everything we needed. The only thing Id say is the check in and departure times need updating on the Sykes information that was emailed out.
Gillian
Loved the cottage fantastic views from the cottage. Lots of things to do nearby walks, cycling. Cottage very clean. Matlock great for eating out and bars. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for a lovely stay. The Wright family
We booked this for a weekend away with our joint 40 birthday. We loved it so much we are looking at booking again
Fabulous cottage. So warm and cozy. Kitchen well stocked with everything you need. Really clean. Lovely farmhouse kitchen where everyone can sit while someone is cooking.
This place was amazing! Would 100 recommend and we will definitely be coming back
Valerie
House was very comfortable, warm and the kitchen well equipped. The hit tub was a great bonus during our winter stay. Good communication with the owners.
My family and I had an amazing stay at Woodthorpe Cruck Cottage. The cottage was clean and tidy with great facilities. We loved that the Christmas decorations were up ready for our stay at the beginning of December. We loved it that much we have booked to stay again for an another long weekend in December 2023. I have recommended the cottage to work colleagues who are looking to stay at some point next year.
Lorraine
Beautiful Cottage, great facilities, great communication. Great host. Excellent all round. The check in time caused us a concern as on Sykes it states 17.00, due to this late time we cancelled a table booking at the Hunlock Arms. The only reservation they had was 18.00. It left time too tight for us. Host did message the day before to say check in time was earlier but by then we had cancelled the table. Please update check inout times on Sykes. Other than this a fabulous stay.
Woodthorpe Cruck Cottage is a lovely cottage in a lovely location with access to lots of interesting places. Its quiet, private and ideally suited to a family holiday. It is also very dark which makes it ideal for star gazing, I would definitely recommend this cottage. If the owner wishes to make improvements I would suggest the following it was very warm and we struggled to adjust the controls the floorboards upstairs were incredibly creaky maybe add a sign on the gateposts to help identify the correct gate especially in the dark. The above is not criticism, merely our reflections. Please pass on our thanks to the owners for a lovely weekend.
Melanie
Beautiful cottage with a lovely hot tub. Clean, well appointed, exactly as described. Vending machine at the nd of the lane is great. Walk to the local shop small, one stop type shop was next to a pub that makes nice Sunday Roasts The Woodthorpe Inn which took about 15 minutes. We didnt see the owners, but they left us a beautiful welcome basket of goodies milk, eggs, bread & cake, all of which were lovely! There are plenty of cleaning supplies in the kitchen, pots, pans, baking trays, crockery, glasses, cutlery etc... you just need to get your food. Would love to go back again next year.
