Oakdene Cottage Sunnyslack Reviews

Denis
Jill was an amazing, friendly, warm and knowledgeable host! The alpaca's were great to see nearby. Every detail was amazing and gave us the perfect relaxing break as a family. Spotlessly clean and great attention to detail. It was great to have use of the hot tub at any time; so often you stay somewhere and can only use such facilities at certain t imes of the day for a limited time. Table tennis was fun too. The fish and chips were not great in Maryport, but the Turkish in Cockermouth great!
Jane
Beautiful cottage, all the little extras made it so much easier to settle in and relax. Owner was really friendly and welcoming as were her alpacas!!
Irene
Cottage is perfect! Absolutely stunning and very well equipped. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The views are amazing and very peaceful. If its a quiet holiday youre after then its the perfect location and near the coast. However if youre after more family oriented activities then it is a good drive away to the best places. If I could take t he cottage with me further south nearer Windermere then I would.
Fiona
I stayed at Oakdene with my husband and 3 children. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The house was extremely well equipped, vey comfortable, clean and tidy and the hot tub was a big hit with my two older kids, as was the pool table in the garage. I would definitely recommend staying here and would return again in future. Lots of lovely places t o explore within 30 minutes drive too.

Highly recommend this cottage! We loved everything about it! The smell, the decoration, the vibes when you sitting on the sofa, and all the facilities it offers are more than enough! And Jill, the house host is so nice, made us feel really welcomed. We really enjoyed the 7 nights stay here!

A very comfortable cottage, with welcoming host, in a good location for trips to the coast and walking in the North Lakes. The hot tub was great after a days walking!
Elizabeth
A gorgeous property in a quiet location with everything we needed. Spotlessly clean, super comfy and all the little touches were lovely. Jill made us feel really welcome and the hot tub was the perfect thing to come back to after a long day out exploring. Very sad when we had to leave. Definitely the best holiday property we've stayed in.
Ole
The bungalow was very well equipped with lots of lovely small touches to make it comfortable and homely including a luxury welcome hamper. The owner was very friendly and ready to help in any way. Although a bungalow there were four steps up to the front door. The hot tub gave a good end to the day and was regularly checked by the owner.
Laurence

Oakdene is a beautiful luxury cottage for a relaxing stay in stunning surroundings. The furnishings are all comfortable and the cottage was spotlessly clean. The garden and hot tub were immaculate, and the games room provided lots of fun. The host was so helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and we received a warm welcome. Our dau ghter loved the swings and I loved reading in the egg chair. Lovely luxury products in the bathroom and comfy robes provided. We cant wait to return!

We really loved our stay - the cottage was beautiful, spacious and had everything we could have needed/desired. We loved the little extras like luxurious robes, the complimentary slippers, but also things like the comfy sofas and proper size dishwasher. We also especially liked the table tennis table and hot tub! The owners were also super friendly and helpful. No complaints at all. We would very happily go again.
Angela
Beautiful property, exceeded expectation, every detail catered for and enjoyed the hot tub! Lovely quiet country setting, easy to relax and let the world go by!! Thank you for sharing your property apart from the weather it was perfect!
Jeannette
The house is in a rural setting but it is easy to travel around the area. The house is large and very comfortable. The bed is a good size and we slept well. The bathroom has a bath and shower which was good. The lounge has a large settee, gas fire and big tv. The kitchen is well equipped. The conservatory is large with a dining table for 6. Outside there are views of Skiddaw and the garden backs onto fields. There is plenty of garden furniture and a large hot tub.
Ani
The cottage itself and the gardens were beautiful. The beds were the most comfortable we had ever slept in. It was spotlessly clean. Things to do less than 10 minutes by car. It was in a really peaceful area. The kids loved seeing the sheep in the next field that came to say hello. The hot tub was a huge hit. Jill added so many little touches that made you feel welcome and valued and was on hand if we needed any help and very approachable. I definitely recommend and would book again in future.
Denise

The bonus is the hot tub looking out at the northern fells, albeit this visit was after dark so looking up at the stars. Hope to return next year

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 9 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 23 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 23 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 24 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 24 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 25 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
