Petty Knowes Cottage Reviews

An absolutely beautiful cottage set in equally stunning surroundings. We absolutely loved our stay at Petty Knowes. The place was exactly what we wanted, welcoming, cosy and in a great location. Everything we needed was provided and more. Having use of the hot tub was also a real treat, especially on the clear nights, amazing! Also, the Gin Snug is a great little addition, very quaint. The hosts communicated well and were always on hand if needed, but it still felt like we had the place all to ourselves. Thank you.
Thank you for a wonderful home from home stay. Nice and peaceful, beautiful property with personal touches throughout. Great for star watchers on a clear night with only sheep for company. Idyllic getaway. Just Perfect!
J & G made us feel very welcome. A very comfortable and relaxing two weeks, the hot tub was very welcoming with the view and sunsets not forgetting our daily morning visits from the cats. Hope to go back soon

Cozy, with a quirky bedroom. Ideal for anyone seeking a quiet, isolated location. Lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Good base for walkers, starting from the cottage or a short drive away. Also handy for Rothbury, Alnwick, Keilder reservoir, Belsay Castle and Wallington Hall. We will probably go again.
Lovely cottage in a lovely location! Very relaxing, peaceful stay! Such friendly hosts! Loved the hot tub, the log burner and the views. Loved the local area and pub! Cottage itself was wonderful, only snag was trouble with booking website Sykes cottage, would not recommend them as difficult to use and threatened to cancel my booking at one point!

Amazing. Fantastic location removed from the world. My husband who is not a romantic commented that he felt it had been decorated and given finishing touches with love and passion Bedroom whilst darker has a real romantic ambience. Furniture all comfortable. Heating for cooler evenings using electric heaters was more than adequate and whilst too warm in the end for us the facility for log fires in living room and bedroom lovely. Gordon and Jo not home that much but Jo sorted anything we needed. Jacuzzi couldn't be better situated as it looks over countryside towards sunset. Privacy not a problem as Gordon and Jo only around Mon to Wed and Sunday evening but even then the back of the jacuzzi comes up to give all the privacy you need. The snug is a final and lovely touch. Did not want to come home. Paul and Jackie Betts stayed 020824 to 170824.
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area. Everything is provided. Good bed. The silence is golden. The hot tub has a stunning view
1 word fantastic
Although the property was lovely I wouldn't consider it 5 star. We found it to be awfully dark in all the rooms, even during the day. The shower was very temperamental, either it was boiling hot or freezing cold and it also wasn't high enough for us, I couldn't get my head underneath the shower head. Also, I couldn't find a brush set to clean the fire out when I used it. The hot tub was lovely though, a luxury. These are only tiny little gripes that can be easily resolved, our overall stay was great, lovely and quiet.

We had a fantastic stay! The views are stunning and we miss them already. Its the perfect little base to visit so many places. Theres plenty to door close to home and even more if youre willing to travel a little further. The owners keep in touch without being overbearing, just the perfect level of contact so that you know theyre there if you need anything at all and yet at the same time you feel completely alone. It really was the perfect get away for us and we would love to come back some time.
Lovely little cottage, beautiful gardens and location. The only sound you hear is birdsong. Equipped with everything you need. The log burners were very welcome on the cold rainy days. Dark skys in the hot tub are an absolute must!

Comfortable cottage with amazing views. Welcome pack appreciated Loved the hot tub in the snowy weather and cosy fires. We couldn't ask for more. Fantastic stay. Our tip for future guests is bring suitable footwear for walking to the hot tub as there is a gravel path.

We booked a week at Petty Knowes over the new year period and really enjoyed our relaxing stay. The cottage adjoins the owner's residence and it quite easy to find with being just off the main road that runs to the Scottish border which is about 9 miles further on. The cottage was lovely and had absolutely everything we needed for our stay. There are so many places to visit in the surrounding areas. Rochester is only an hour away by car to Newcastle or Gateshead Metro Centre, and an hour and a half to Edinburgh! If you want to stay more local , Otterburn nearby has some nice places to eat and a well stocked convenience store for bits and bobs. Our tip Bring suitable footwear and leave the manolos at home. Staying over winter meant the ground was muddy when opening and closing the gate to leave or come back to the property. We expected this and brought our boots but better not to be caught out. Thank you Joanne and Gordon for a lovely stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Petty Knowes. The cottage was well appointed, welcoming and had all that was needed to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. The welcome basket was a nice touch and appreciated, as was the beautiful Christmas tree and decorations. The cottage location is ideal for watching the night sky and we were able to observe the spectacle of the Geminids meteor shower during our stay. Thank you Joanne and Gordon, we had a great week.
Lovely cottage in a secluded part of Northumberland. Made cosy with an open fire in the living room and the option for a log burner fire in the bedroom. Very well equipped and lovely added extras such as the Gin Snug, blankets and candles to make your stay a home away from home. The bed is so comfy too never been away with a bed thats as comfy as our own!! Perfect getaway with hosts that live adjoining who are helpful friendly and there if you need them but give you the total privacy to enjoy your stay. The hot tub is perfect after a days walking and to see the stars later at night suggest that all visitors take slip on shoes and a torch to get to it as it is round the corner from the cottage and via a gravel drive. Highly recommend this cottage if you want total relaxation and seclusion. Walks on your doorstep and so many places of beauty to visit & walk a short drive away. A fabulous cafe in the village is an added bonus.

The cottage was well presented, clean and tidy and was in an ideal location for exploring the area. It has lovely views over the surrounding countryside and offers a peaceful and quiet getaway. I'm sure that in the warmer months it offers a fantastic stay but we found it difficult to keep warm in November despite having all the electric heaters on and the fire going in the living room. The kitchen, with no heating, was particularly cold and the bathroom underfloor heating never seemed to provide any noticeable benefit. Unfortunately this tarnished what was an otherwise enjoyable stay in a lovely cottage.
Lovely quiet cottage in a beautiful part of the country. We had a great time and will book again.

Great stay

Perfect stay at Petty Knowes Cottage. Clean, warm and friendly. Would definitely recommend. Thank you so much Joanne and Gordon
Lovely little cottage up in the hills, very close to loads of walking routes and near tonnes of day trip destinations, such as Jedburgh and Alnwick. Good place to do some star gazing and we were lucky enough to catch some of the perseids meteor shower. Hot tub is very nice and easy to use, it is on the owners side but that's not a problem as when you're using it the hosts away so you have good privacy. The hosts are lovely and friendly and available when needed.

Lovely cottage thanks for a great holiday! However we didnt realise on booking that the cottage is locating on border of military camptraining area so unable to do any local walks from the cottage as the red flags were up. The local pub is also inaccessible to walk to as on an a main road with no pavement to access via foot. Just feedback to owners regarding cleaning unfortunately there was a dog smell in the lounge for a few days whilst aired the property. We dont have dogs so this was a bit unpleasant. The hot tub is located on owners side of property also to make you aware.
Lovely cottage well maintained well equipped spotless, in excellent setting. Only downside I thought the hot tub was in the garden but it was in next doors .
Lovely cottage with great garden & beautiful views. Very relaxing, peaceful & tranquil place, everything for a good holiday. NOT TO BE PUBLISHED suggestion for owners include smaller steamer for two & extra small pan
We had a lovely few days at Petty Knowes, a beautiful and well equipped cottage. A welcome hamper was a lovely touch and we enjoyed visiting many of the wonderful places around the Northumberland countryside. Very hot weather this week so couldn't quite manage the hot tub

We stayed here for a week and felt at home from the first day. It's a lovely, clean and cosy place to stay. Nice touches such as the welcome hamper, bath robes and a modern bathroom with plenty of hot water. We cooked our own meals most days and found we had all the utensils and facilities we needed. Our hosts were great with no problems with being able to make contact when we needed to. It's a lovely spot with a great outlook from the hot tub. We travelled from here to Jedburgh, Kielder Reservoir, Billingham, Newcastle, Alnwick and Bamburgh. If we were visiting Northumberland again we wouldn't hesitate in staying here again.

Wonderful place, so cosy and peaceful and immaculate just what we wanted for few days away and dog friendly too! !

Malcolm
Had a wonderful stay. The cottage was lovely and cosy with great views of the countryside. Will defiantly book again.
Andrew
The property was very well appointed and comfortable and the owners approachable and helpful. The weather was poor and I think it would be helpful to emphasise that the property can be difficult to access in icy weather. We could not get our car up the hill track to the cottage and had to park 400 metres away. Also they have a lovely gin snug within the cottage but there are no gin glasses or means to produce ice in the cottage. That would be an improvement. However overall we enjoyed or stay. The cottage is lovely and the location and surrounding countryside is beautiful.
We had a lovely time staying here the cottage has everything you need, lived the gin room the hot tub was the best, watching the stars whilst sitting in it on our last night was the icing on the cake. Joanne and Gordon were so friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Thomas
What a lovely little sanctuary Petty Knowes is. The location offers amazing views over the surrounding area, with wonderful opportunities to watch the stars from the hot tub, as well as see the sun setting behind the hills. The cottage itself is beautifully furnished and so clean. It has everything you need and feels like a home away from home. Gordon and Joanne were so nice and always happy to help, lovely hosts. A truly special place, we would love to return.
Trevor
Probably the nicest cottage we have stayed in. Warm, cosy, well equipped, everything worked and mine host attentive without being intrusive.
