The Old Hay Barn Reviews

Bridget
We had a lovely time staying in The Old Hay Barn and it was perfect for us and our 2 dogs. The owners were very helpful and friendly and on hand should you have any queries They also made a few suggestions of lively nearby beaches and coves that we might want to visit during our stay. Stokesley is the nearest town a couple of miles away and a reall y quaint market town with a river running through it and a nice mix of shops to purchase any food items for your stay. Peaceful and enjoyable holiday
Charlotte
The accommodation was good, plenty of room, cleaning of the property could be better. As commented by someone else, you have to bring everything with you, washing up liquid, sponges, cleaning cloths, to bin liners, these very simple items is something I would not necessarily have thought to bring with me, it would be a nice touch to have these here already. There is no welcome info, you have to ask for the Wifi, the hot tub is a nice touch, but the temperature was on cold side at 35 degrees.
Jay
Fabulous, cosy cottage. I went with my partner, 3 year old and dog and it was perfect for us. Just ensure you pack all essentials such as bin liners, toilet roll, fairy liquid as I forgot these...my own fault but there are shops/supermarket around 15 min drive away. WiFi worked amazingly like others have said. Hot tub was fabulous. Host was availab le if needed. Great walks and beach's not too far of a drive away too!
Sarah
A beautiful house, with everything that you would need for a self catering holiday in stunning surroundings, we took our little dog with us and he settled as if he was at home. The highlight for our 2 boys was the on-sight games room, they enjoyed many games of pool and darts together throughout the week.
Michelle
Lovely cottage and area. Really enjoyed our break, thanks
Bethany
This was a wonderful vacation home. The facilities were perfect for a girls vacation, loved the games room and the hot tube. The boards games were a lovely touch also ! The bedrooms were beautiful, lovely mattress, pillows and bedding which is a big deal for a perfect nights sleep. The scenery was picturesque! Loved waking up for the horses in the stables and sheep in the field cant wait to come back in the summer.
Nicola
We had a lovely stay and loved the addition of the games room. The rooms were super comfortable and the bathroom is gorgeous. The owner was extremely helpful when we needed help with the temperature of the hot tub and came over within 10 minutes of messaging. Will definitely be booking again :)
Malcolm
Great facilities, particularly enjoyed the hot tub and games room and handy for travel across Yorkshire and beyond
Stephanie
Amazing property and location. Has everything you need! 5 star.
Charlotte
An absolutely gorgeous property, we have stayed in lodges & cottages many times across the country, this was wonderful! Loved the privacy and view from the hot tub and the beds were so comfy, the decor is beautiful and a perfect option for a family getaway, already thinking about booking for 2023
Helen
We had an absolutely fantastic stay, 2 couples and 2 dogs and we had plenty of room and enough parking for 2 cars. The barn was modern but still cosy, we loved every minute staying there, we also had the added bonus of the barn with the games room! And there was a cupboard full of board games! Our Host was on hand if needed, we would highly recomme nd and will be rebooking
Amy
We stayed here and wow what a place! The master bedroom was gorgous with its double aspect windows. Lovely to open the door while waking up in the morning. The games room was such a bonus too. Everything was fab - the shower, comfy sofas, dog friendly! Thank you!!!
Charlotte
Beautiful house in a lovely location but it was frustrating the hot tub was off for our first night as we only stayed for 2 nights and was one of the main reasons we chose the house.
Sharon
Want to get away with in a lovely location of mountain views and nice countryside this is a place to go, Peace and quiet . Lovely spacious rooms with tasteful decor with added bonus of a spacious games room and a hot tub.
Susan
Just returned from a 2nd stay at the Old Hay Barn. It is such a lovely property, always spotlessly clean and perfect for a few days to relax and unwind. Will definitely stay here again and highly recommend if you're looking for a hot tub hideaway.
David
Fabulous cottage in great location to explore North Yorkshire. The cottage was beautifully presented, well equipped and the hot tub was a real treat at the end of a day out.
Sarah
The cottage is in a brilliant location for days out in the car. My fianc and I thoroughly enjoyed the week. We had 2 dogs with us who loved the field just behind the house. The cottage itself was beautiful very well finished with the luxury feel to it! Waking up to the horses coming into the small stable was lovely. But most of all it was peaceful! Such a calm environment.
Leanne
We had a memorable week in the cottage just with things not being 100% it did make things awkward. The owner was very accommodating with charging an electric vehicle and the welcome bag was a lovely surprise. Just a few bits upgrading and sorting would make it so much better 100% the wifi needs a massive upgrade!
Maria
We enjoyed our stay very much , nice peaceful location and hot tub lovely on an evening. A couple of little touches what would have made our stay all the more enjoyable; Very slow WiFi ( I know people don't go away for WiFi ) however it stopped us from watching Netflix on an evening. Also barbecue was in a poor condition and was left by previous gu est's dirty and the tray full of used charcoal. Beds comfortable, shower room nice . Extra toilet always comes in handy:) . Overall a nice break.
Rubina
Overall our trip was good but we did have some issue such as no Wi-Fi we messaged the host several times but no help. We also forgot bin bags and there are no shops around so we asked the host but she said we shouldve bought our own so we had to use some plastic bags we had. One of the double rooms had so many spiders we tried to call the host but she didnt answer and nobody could sleep there the whole weekend. We also did not receive a welcome hamper which we were told wed get.
Dawn
Lovely property and location, clean and welcoming had a great family break lots of lovely walks everyone was friendly will definitely be booking again.
Chris
The old hay barn was a perfect location to stay whilst exploring all that the North Yorkshire moors and coastline has to offer. Plenty of space within the property to accommodate our family of 4 and the games room was used frequently by our boys both at the beginning of the day and at the end. The hot tub was a welcome addition and ideal for relaxi ng those tired muscles after long walks along the Cleveland way or up to the top of rosemary top. For a tranquil, countryside location this is the one
Heather
Lovely stay Beautiful location and Barn! Everything was modern and clean. Just what we were looking for. Nice big hot tub! We got lots of use out of this. We also enjoyed the games room. The only small niggle I would make would be to cover the steps which lead up to the hot tub with a material that is not slippery. They were quite steep and when w et from the hot tub got quite slippery. But overall we had a great stay and have already recommended this barn to friends and family.
Aileen
Amazing stay, cant recommend enough!
Susan
Wow! This cottage was wonderful, very clean with towels and all kitchen products eg tea towels and washing up liquid provided. Location was fabulous with lovely walks to the local pubs, we went to the Miners and the food was fab. Hot tub fits 6 easy. The house was large and had lovely views as its set well back from the road by a long sweeping driv e. Worth families taking bicycles or walking shoes with lots to discover. The house was easy to find from the motorway and really is beautiful.
Deana
I would recommend the Old Hay Barn to anyone. It is great value for money considering the location and spec of the cottage. the cottage was very tastefully decorated, you can tell a lot of thought had been put into it. It's location couldn't be better, especially if walking is your thing. There's lots of things to do close by including national tru st properties and lovely Stokesley. It's also within easy driving distance to Whitby and Scarborough amongst others. We had a lovely holiday!
Helen
This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location! The decor and cosiness of the place was perfect and we all enjoyed the hot tub (although steps to it are very steep). There is so much to do in the area and despite the blustery stormy February weather holing up at the Old Hay Barn was a fantastic break for us all. it suited children and adults an d the dog loved the place. Seeing the horses and farmland and the clear star -filled night sky was so peaceful and we all had a restorative week away.
Karl
Cottage was amazing and clean. Hot Tub was excellent and stayed warm for hours. We had a request for 1 members of the party's birthday if we can have some balloons/banners this was fulfilled and to a very good standard. Recommend walks and Takeaways where really good and the games room was used every day. Only complains with the whole trip is the W iFi was a bit flaky when we where having a film night and some of the door in the property do not latch properly, so when windy they do bang a bit
Craig
Good location, 3 miles from Lordstones, 30 minutes to the coast or Helmsley. Nice views from the bedrooms. Kitchen equipment poor, pots and pans in a very poor state, no dishwasher. Wi-Fi is just on a extender from the main house, didnt work all week- 4G signal was ok so used that. Not great communication from owners apart from Ben who was friendly and great for directions on local routes. Hot tub and the games room were great additions.
Ella
We had a fantastic weekend stay here. Great location, with everything from lakes, hills and coastline within half an hour. Our hosts were very accommodating and friendly, and even helped push a car out the mud when one of our party took the wrong road! Great place to stay with dogs too, with a secure area for them with artificial grass so you dont have to worry about them bringing mud in. Would love to come back and explore more of the beautiful countryside around the house.
Nicola
Loved our stay at The Old Hay Barn, it was very clean, spacious, beds were very comfy, would definitely reccomend staying here Lots of walks to do Owners were also very helpful and messaged straight back when asked questions
Alison
The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. Very homely, lovely comfy bed, enclosed garden for our young dog was perfect. Would highly recommend and will definitely return. Close enough to visit the coast too.
Sharyn
Beautiful cottage, gorgeous views and good location to explore the area. House was spotless and lovely decor inside.
Don
The property was beautiful and very pleasant to stay in. Away from the hustle and bustle of a town or city, set in the ground of a beautiful stable area, away from any main road. Views were brilliant and the hot tub and games room was a great bonus. Would recommend this property, especially if you like walks in nature!
Ben
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location, we had a lovely time there and my daughter enjoyed seeing the horses. Only slight criticism is it would be handy to know the house rules regarding the house rules for dogs (not to be left alone in the property). We still had a fantastic time

Big Sheep - EX39 5AP

This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW
about 22 Miles
Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
Yorkshire Lavender - YO60 6PB

Yorkshire Lavender is an amazing award winning attraction offering breathtaking panoramic views of York, a Café, Plant Nursery and Lavender Gardens. The 60 acre site is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is an excellent choice for a day trip. The onsite shops sells Lavender products such as bath and body treats, skincare, medicine and herbal remedies.
Lightwater Valley - HG4 3HT

There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.

Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. As well as exploring the castle visitors can enjoy attractios including the unique Land Train - the best way to see the entire park. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.
Fountains Abbey - HG4 3DY
about 27 Miles
This is an outstanding world heritage site located close to Ripon in the North Yorkshire area. Nature lovers will be in their element with an abundance of wide open spaces to explore and there are special guided tours for families.  Some of the highlights may include seeing wild deer and bats during your visit.  The grounds are fantastic to wander round but there is also an Elizabethan Mansion, Victorian Church, Georgian Water Garden and the finest example of Cistercian Abbey ruins in the country - Well worth a visit!
The Grainary Wildlife Farm - YO25 3HS

Located in Harwood Dale Village, North Yorkshire we think this attraction makes a superb family day out and couples will also enjoy the nature walks in the area.  There are 6 nature walks in total surrounding the farm so walkers and lovers of the outdoors will be in their element. Some of our favourite walks include the Spring Flowers, Pond and Village walk which takes around 35 minutes, and the Meadow and Trees walk which takes one hour.
