The Old Hay Barn Reviews

Emma
The place itself is charming, but getting there isn’t straightforward because the roads are quite tight. The cottage’s upstairs was lovely, though the ground floor could do with some sprucing up if they’re calling it luxury. Still a nice stay!
Emma
The surroundings are stunning and the place itself is lovely. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and games room. Looking forward to coming back!
Emily
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage! The setting was perfect for long walks and exploring the nearby pubs. It’s a peaceful rural spot, ideal for us and the dog. The space inside was generous and well-equipped, especially the big kitchen. The main bedroom had a lovely view over the fields through the glass doors. Only thing missing was a dishwasher - with such a big kitchen, it would have been handy. Overall, a great break and we’d definitely come back!
Oliver
We had such a lovely stay at the hay barn! The place is beautifully decorated, super warm and spotlessly clean. It’s in a gorgeous spot, great for exploring the area. The kids loved the games room and hot tub, while our dog was happy with the bowls left out. The welcome treats-crisps and Prosecco-were a nice touch. Beds and pillows were really comfyand plenty of clean towels for both the hot tub and indoor use. The kitchen was well stocked too. We’re already planning to come back!
Alex
We had a lovely stay with our three dogsand it’s definitely a dog-friendly spot. The provided throws were a nice touchand the sofa was super comfy and cosy. The bath was ready right from day one, which was great. WiFi worked perfectlyand the closed patio made a safe space for the pups. There are plenty of quiet lanes and fields for walking, plus nice pubs like the Black Swan and Jet Miner's where dogs are welcome in the bar or garden. We’ll be back!
James
Really cosy and welcoming, loved it!
Emma
We had an amazing time! The house felt warm and invitingand the hot tub plus games room kept the teenagers entertained for hours. Everyone left feeling relaxed and really happy. Thanks so much!
Emma
Really peaceful spot, perfect if you're not very mobile because walking around isn’t easy. The games room was a real highlight, loads of fun, though only two darts. Would happily tell friends!
Emma
The cottage was charming and in a pretty spot. While the walks to nearby villages mostly followed country roads, Lord Stones Country Park is definitely worth exploring!
Emma
We had a wonderful time at Old Hay Barn! The peaceful setting was perfectand the hot tub plus games room kept everyone entertained. There are plenty of lovely walks, charming townsand beaches nearby, all within a short drive. Thanks for a fantastic stay-we’d definitely recommend it to friends and family!
Emma
We loved the place! The house is gorgeous and had all we needed for a self-catering break. Our dog felt right at home, which was great. The kids had a blast in the games room-pool and darts kept them entertained all week. Honestly, it was a lovely stay in such a stunning setting.

Great spot, perfect location, has everything we could ask for!
Emma
If you're after a peaceful retreat surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, this place is perfect. The rooms are spacious and nicely decoratedand there's a great games room along with a hot tub for extra relaxation. Definitely worth a visit!
Emma
We’ve just come back from our second visit to the Old Hay Barn. It’s such a charming place, always immaculate and ideal for a peaceful break. Definitely staying again! If you fancy a cosy retreat with a hot tub, we highly recommend it. Lovely spot!
Emma Carter
We had a really lovely time overall. The peaceful spot was perfect for relaxingand the hot tub was a real highlight, especially in the evening. The beds were super comfy and the shower room was nice and clean. An extra toilet is always handy! A couple of things could have been better though; the WiFi was painfully slow, which was a bit frustrating when we wanted to catch up on Netflix. Also, the barbecue was left in quite a state - dirty and full of used charcoal. Still, a nice little getaway!
Emily
Overall, our stay was decent but there were a few frustrations. We struggled with the Wi-Fi, messaging the host multiple times without any response, which was annoying. We also forgot bin bagsand since there aren’t any shops nearby, we asked the host, only to be told we should have brought our own. One of the double bedrooms was infested with spidersand despite trying to contact the host, she didn’t answer, so we couldn’t sleep there all weekend. We also didn’t receive the welcome hamper we were promised, which was a bit of a let-down.
Emma
Wow, what a lovely stay! The cottage was spotless and well-equipped, with towels and all the kitchen essentials like tea towels and washing-up liquid. The location was perfect for walks to local pubs-ours was the Minersand the food was fantastic. The hot tub comfortably fits six, which was great for relaxing evenings. The house itself is spacious with stunning views, tucked away from the road by a long driveway. Perfect for families with bikes or walking shoes-there’s loads to explore. It’s easy to find from the motorway and genuinely beautiful. We’d definitely come back!
Hannah
We had such a lovely weekend at this place! The location is perfect, with lakes, hillsand the coast all within half an hour’s drive. Our hosts were super friendly and helpful - they even helped push our car out of the mud when we took a wrong turn. It’s great for dogs too, with a secure area and fake grass so they don’t bring in mud. We’d definitely love to come back and explore more of the stunning countryside around the house someday!
Emma
We had a lovely time at The Old Hay Barn! The place was spotless and really roomy. Beds were super comfyand the owners were so helpful, replying quickly whenever we had questions. Would definitely stay again, highly recommend!
James
The cottage was really charming and in a great spot, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My daughter loved seeing the horses, which was a real highlight. Only thing we’d suggest is clearer info on house rules for dogs, like not leaving them alone. Still, we had an awesome time overall!

This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW

Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
Yorkshire Lavender - YO60 6PB

Yorkshire Lavender is an amazing award winning attraction offering breathtaking panoramic views of York, a Café, Plant Nursery and Lavender Gardens. The 60 acre site is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is an excellent choice for a day trip. Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.

Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.

This is an outstanding world heritage site located close to Ripon in the North Yorkshire area. Nature lovers will be in their element with an abundance of wide open spaces to explore and there are special guided tours for families.  Some of the highlights may include seeing wild deer and bats during your visit.  The grounds are fantastic to wander round but there is also an Elizabethan Mansion, Victorian Church, Georgian Water Garden and the finest example of Cistercian Abbey ruins in the country - Well worth a visit!
