The Dove Cote Reviews

Beverley
Beautiful cottage with everything you need. I would highly recommend to all. Lots of places to visit nearby. Lovely welcoming pub 2 mins walk and shop over the road. Just perfect.
Allison
Well what a little gem only downside for us was the bed not very comfortable apart from this couldnt fault it
Excellent, everything has been thought about and provided. The hot tub was fabulous
Deborah
We loved the cottage! It was really clean and comfortable with a lovely hot tub and secure area for our dogs. Would definitely come back.
Rebecca
The Dove Cote is a lovely little cottage. It's clean and well kept, and the owners have provided a substantial list of things to do, places to eat and helpful numbers for during your stay. We would absolutely recommend this to anyone and would love to return in the future!
Alison
Perfect cottage. 1010 for everything. Location brilliant for exploring. In the village there is a shop that is well stocked and very friendly, there's 2 pubs one a couple of minutes walk away the other a 10 minute stroll, both friendly with lovely, reasonable priced food. We will definitely book the dove cote again.
We loved our stay at dove cove! So quite, relaxing, very welcoming, clean and tidy, we went to some nice restaurants in richmond too.
Theresa
This cottage is beautiful. Very well equipped & spotlessly clean. The hot tub is glorious. Fran & Dave are such a lovely couple. Nothings too much for them. Everything is just as it should be & more. We loved are stay for the 3rd year running. Will be coming back again
We had a lovely stay at Dove Cote perfect location, accommodation was excellent close to amenities. An ideal spot great gor our dogs all closed In. Hot tub under cover which was nice. Would definitely go back owners were very friendly. Sue and Simon Ward
Lovely cottage, could be better with a few things, tv in bedroomhot tub need replacing as showing age. Need a blind over the bedroom window. Better quality towels would be nice feature.
This cottage is stunning, it has everything you need and want . The owners are very friendly and helpful. Two lovely pubs within walking distance. A great little shop just over the road. We will definitely be coming back.
Melanie
Had a perfect weekend at Dove Cote, the house was lovely and clean. Hot tub was fresh and upto temperature ready for our arrival. Nice little shop opposite for any essentials. Owners were lovely, very quiet and private area. Would highly recommend
What a wonderful, cozy little cottage in a beautiful location. The village itself is very pretty with a local shop just across the road from the cottage and a lovely local pub just down the road. The cottage is clean and well maintained with almost everything you could need the only things we found lacking were some large glasses we like to take large glasses of water to bed with us to drink throughout the night and an indoor shower! It was a little awkward showering in the bathtub! Other than that, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. The bedroom is cozy with a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. We slept incredibly well during our stay. Dave came and introduced himself to us on arrival and explained a few things before reassuring us that if we needed anything he was only next door. Other than that, we were left to our own devices. There are plenty of places to explore within a reasonable driving distance. We visited Richmond only a few miles away and Whitby, which was well worth the drive. Although we didnt venture there on this visit, we have previously been to Barnard Castle, which is only a few miles away and definitely worth a visit if you havent been before. We came for a weekend away for a quiet, relaxing weekend to get away from the daily grind and thats exactly what we got! The hot tub is great, especially with the outdoor TV to watch whilst chilling out.
We had a lovely weekend break here. The cottage had everything we needed. Hot tub was superb. Enclosed area was good for the dogs. Lots of walks to go on in the area. Visited Richmond castle, the river and the icecream parlour. They were all great to visit. Weather was forecasted to be very wet, on the whole, it was good to us. Hosts were welcoming, and although there was building works going on next door it didn't impact on our weekend break. Thank you for the wine and chocolates.
Sharon
A great experience from start to finish. Every finer detail was thought about to make your stay a home from home visit. I would definitely recommend this place.
The cottage was lovely and was just as outlined on the listing. Great location in the village and a perfect spot to go off exploring both by foot or in the car. It was our first holiday with our dog and the fact that she had the secure outside space to go into as well was great. The hot tub was a perfect addition thoroughly recommend it! What a perfect way to relax at the end of a day of walking!
Matthew
First impression building work & builder overlooked back yard. Went for peace & quiet & private holiday kind of restricted times to use hot tub & think advert should state this. On this point was a couple of days not there & if your out until evening won't be a problem. Property is clean and comfortable but did get a shock sitting on right side of settee sank right down in it. Bbq outside seen better days. Decent base for setting out from good walks for Dogs warm property & just about right space for 2 people.
Claire
What a delightful break in an amazing cottage. Not only have we enjoyed the local walks along the river with our dogs but visited some lovely local market towns with very friendly folk. The cottage was wonderful and homely and the dogs loved the outside space with the bonus of a hot tub for us
We have just stayed in Dove Core for a week, the cottage is spacious comfortable and clean. The hot tub and the tv outside is luxurious and something we made use of after a long day exploring. The cottage is in a friendly village with a shop and pub within in walking distance. The cottage is well positioned to explore the Yorkshire Sales staring with the town of Richmond. The village has wonderful walks beside the river which our dog loved, the garden is enclosed and safe for the dog which was reassuring. The owners are friendly and helpful when needed . Overall a very love!y cottage we would recommend. One note currently there is building work next door, the builder is very aware turning off his music off, it wasn't a problem for us but some people might not appreciate it.
Loved our stay at Dove Cote. Great base to explore the Dales. Easy access to the A1 for exploring further afield. Beamish Museum was well worth the drive north. Dave was friendly, gave us a tour of the property on arrival and quickly dealt with an issue with the shower. Enjoyed the hot tub every day. Well equipped kitchen and bed was comfy.
Theresa
This cottage is beautiful & has everything you need. Its extremely clean with a lovely comfortable bed & the hot tub is to die for. Fran & Dave are such a lovely friendly couple, making sure everything was ok for us. When we arrived there was a welcome bottle of wine & some fudge for us. That was a lovely touch. Its our second time staying there & we will definitely be going back. Thanks for a lovely stay
My wife and i loved the Dove Cote. Excellent holiday let, particularly liked having the shower and toilet close to the hot tub. The bed was very comfortable. Cottage close to shop and local pub which was very handy. The owner , Dave, was friendly and helpful. We found the local people in the village very friendly. Cottage well placed for exploring the area. We would recommend the Dove Cote as a holiday stay.
Angela
Lovely cottage but it was spoiled by the building work that was going on to the ... Lovely cottage but it was spoiled by the building work that was going on to the next door building which the owners of the cottage were aware of
A very nice and clean cottage. Close to Richmond, Catterick, Barnard Castle, Northallerton and more. Good hot tub under cover with a T.V. shower cubical and toilet. Only negative is that there is not a stand up shower in the main cottage. There is a free standing bath in the bedroom with a shower attachment but the shower can only be used sitting or kneeling in the bath.
Lovely accommodation in a quiet village with couple of pubs shop post office. A walk along the river minutes away good for the dog.the accommodation was clean and comfortable. Loved the hot tub. Thank you for the wine and fudge very kind gesture. Would definitely come back
Lovely and peaceful, near to river for great walks. The toilet in the bedroom behind a screen with bath at the end of the bed set up is not to our taste though you definitely need to be a close couple
Natalie
Had a brilliant short stay away. The cottage was everything we needed and more.
Denise
We had a really enjoyable break at the cottage. It is well equipped, comfortable and warm. The hot tub and outside showerloo area was great. We loved the enclosed patio area which was ideal for our dog. The local pub was just meters down the road and very friendly. Plus there is a small shop opposite which we bought ice from. Great location for visiting Richmond, Easby Abbey and surrounding areas. We had a good morning out at foxglove Covert Nature reserve in Catterick Garrison. We only met Fran who made us feel very welcome on our arrival, and we also had lovely reviews about Dave from the locals in the pub. Lovely welcome gift of wine and fudge, very nice thank you. Certainly book again.
Michelle
Lovely homely cottage in a lovely little village . Catterick racecourse in walking distance. Richmond town centre close by . Bottle of wine and some fudge for us when we arrived , that was a lovely little touch . Had everything you could need for a stay . TV in the hot tub was an added bonus . Shower and toilet outside , handy for when using the hot tub.Would stay again we loved it .
Lovely quiet cosy cottage. Ideal for a relaxing getaway.
We had a pleasant stay at the Dove Cote, I feel that this property has heaps of potential but unfortunately some aspects were not quite up to scratch. The location of the property is excellent and we really enjoyed exploring Richmond and further into the Dales over our 3 night stay, the Farmers arms is also a must if staying here, they are super friendly and serve great food. I was surprised when we first arrived at the lack of visitors handbook or welcome pack, Ive never stayed at a property before that doesnt have one and feel its very beneficial. It would have been nice to have a written Introduction welcome from the hosts with some basic instructions and a guide to the property for example, there was a sign asking us to switch the hot tub off the evening before our departure but no instructions on how to do it and we couldnt figure it out!. We had an issue with the boiler on our first night which left us without heating however when we contacted Dave the owner the next day he came over straight away and even got a plumber out to check things over for us. My main disappointment with the property was the level of cleanliness, the blinds in the kitchen were stained with some kind of sauce, some of the utensils and cutlery had dried up food on them meaning we needed to wash everything prior to use and some of the pots pans are extremely old and could do with updating. With regards to upstairs, the bedding and bedsheets are really well used and worn out and need updating, the bed itself did have lots of hairs in when we arrived which is never very welcoming and the mattress feels ready for an update. Inside the chest of draws there was empty clothes packets that had obviously been left by prior guests but is slightly worrying that something so obvious hadnt been picked up noticed during change over. The toilet upstairs is very difficult to flush meaning we opted to use the downstairs toilet instead which is in a sort of linking tunnel between the holiday cottage and the owners property. The radiator in the bathroom appears to be controlled from the owners side of the building and it was turned off for our visit which made it absolutely freezing! The hot tub was lovely and relaxing and the addition of an outside tv is a lovely touch however towards the end of our visit night 3 the water in the hot tub was starting to get murky and there was the beginnings of a strange smell emerging, I dont think the water had been topped up with chlorine or had the chemical levels checked during our visit perhaps investing in a slow release chlorine device would be a good idea. Overall we really did enjoy our stay and it was brilliant to explore Yorkshire, however at the price being paid I was a little let down with some of the elements. With some small alterations this place could be a little gem!
Well what can we say, absolutely perfect from the location to the cottage itself ... Well what can we say, absolutely perfect from the location to the cottage itself and a lovely touch to it was the hot tub with the tv and the outside shower and toilet room,we met the owner briefly as we was leaving and what a gentleman, when we arrived there was a lovely bottle of Prosecco and box of fudge waiting for us
The cottage was exactly what we expected. It was cosy, very clean and in a lovely quiet location. The hot tube is a nice addition for a nice relaxing afternoon. We have a very small issue with the electrics which the property owner Dave sorted immediately It was perfect for our little dog and we had the best time! The location is fab and there are some lovely places to walk near by. We will
Excellent week from start to finish, we received a nice welcome gesture of prosecco & fudge when we arrived, cottage was perfect for a relaxing week and the hot tub with TV is excellent!
Beautiful cottage. Only small niggle, bed mattress was very soft which caused my husband issues with his bad back.
A perfect cottage in a very quiet location, shop and pub no more than a few hundred metres away. Dogs settled in straight away and the patio area is completely enclosed and safe. Everything you need for a wonderful break including a notice board full of places to eat and have food delivered from and a full equipped kitchen should you prefer to cook your own, the hot tub was perfect including an outside bathroomwet room with shower, there is even a fully equipped TV. The cottage is lovely and warm with no heating on, even in October. Would highly recommend the Dove Cote and will definitely look to book again in the future.
Had a lovely relaxing break in the cottage

There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.

Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.
