Keepers Lodge, Hillfield Village Reviews

Only negative upstairs shower floor very slippery
The property was just as it was advertised was clean and spacious and we had a lovely family break.
Michelle
Excellent property, spacious, comfortable with great outdoor space, perfect location quiet, with well kept communal areas, great base for getting to local amenities. Lovely nearby villages and beaches. Overall superb property for an idilic holiday with family

Access to the internet isnt clear the router had been placed on top of the freezer and pushed right back so it wasnt visible. So we were a day without internet which was very annoying. Insufficient cleaning materials and no soap in bathrooms and very little toilet roll which was corrected by Coast and Country. The property had obviously been used by a hen party because there were silver confetti penises still around! But we were a family party and it prompted some questions.. overall this is a very nice property and we had a happy family time and the hot tub was a great success.

Keepers cottage was a lovely place to stay all the family enjoyed it and we hope to book next year I only have two negative comments to make we could not find the WiFi pass word and phoned Sykes and they said they would come back to me and i am still waiting, and the front decking needed to be repaired the hand rail was very louse and my wife has balance problems relied on the hand rail for support when getting up and down the steps.

Excellent property this is the second time we have stayed in Keepers Cottage. Had a problem with the hot water on arrival but was soon sorted. Was good to see that the tree that used to hang over he hottubhadbeen cut back keeping it cleaner. Would definitely recommend this property
Weve had a lovely stay. Great setting despite the very wet weather. Paignton Zoo was great, Exeter lovely, Salcombe pretty but difficult to park.
Hi. We had a wonderful time although there were cobwebs all over the decking area and chairs, thought these could have been brushed off beforehand. Very nicely decorated and the hot tub was lovely although it went cold on the last night and no chemicals in the chemical pot which we were advised to put back into the tub after use. Its such a shame the swimming pool has been taken away as there really isnt much else on the site only the tennis court and play areas. Would be interested in what other devolpments are taking place at hillfield.its a lovely quiet spot and handy for walking to the pub.
I would have given 5 stars cos the property was so comfortable and clean for our large family but the only thing that let it down was the smell from the ground floor family bathroom drains. I've noticed that previous families who have stayed at the property have commented the same. The rest of the property is faultless. Would definitely stay there again regardless of the ground floor bathroom smell. Thanks for a great stay.

Nice property, clean and well presented. Good selection of games, jigsaws and books. Main downstairs bathroom did tend to smell a bit though. Misleading advertising on the website as the shuffleboard game near the childrens play area has been removed. This was something we were looking forward to playing.
Our property was beautiful both inside and out. They layout was perfect for 3 families sharing and there were plenty of bathrooms for all parties to use. The kitchen had almost everything that was needed some extra baking trays would have been helpful. The location was great and the facilities on site were well maintained. It would have been better if there could have been a field for the children to play ball on as it states no ball games outside the cottage. The playground was small so not ideal for older children 10 but good for younger. The hot tub was a welcomed addition to the property and was used every day. The main bathroom with the bath had an awful smell. This bathroom didnt have windows and so ventilation was poor which could have been the problem but it does need to be looked at. Fortunately we didnt need to use this bathroom but had we needed to I think wed of come out smelling worse. The WiFi was good and was used by all 9 of us. We would definitely return as we had a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

Fantastic place was so comfortable and had everything we wanted, beautifully decorated. We loved the hot tub but wished it had had a gazebo over the top as lots of bits from the large tree kept falling in and that will start to clogg up. BUT fabulous place to stay .we loved it .
We had a wonderful holiday. The property was very well equipped, very clean and provided our party of nine with plenty of space. Everything was of an excellent quality and there was plenty of everything we needed. The tennis court was excellent and enjoyed by us all. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The hot tub was a real hit but at the same time was the only disappointment as the chemical ran out by midweek and there appeared to be noone on site qualified to renew it. So by Friday it was unusable. Despite this we really enjoyed our time at Hillfield and would love to return.
Property was very clean on arrival & the modern decor makes it a very comfortable place to spend time. Only downside was the en suites let a 'toilet' smell into the downstairs bedrooms the double at the back in particular so we moved into the front bedroom.

Keeper's Lodge was clean and well equipped for us with a lovely hot tub which we enjoyed. Don't think it's suitable for 10 people to stay it would be very crowded. It would be useful to put a note in the property file for guests, that the concealed cutlery draw is above the pan store! The beds had nice linen but aren't very comfortable, with extremely soft mattresses. Main downstairs bathroom has poor flush on toilet and also has an odour issue probably known, as scented diffuser in just this bathroom. Worst aspect of staying here is ending your holiday with a 10 am checkout with instructions to strip all beds, have dishwasher emptied and all equipment put away!! Not what you expect or have to do, or current practice, if staying in a hotel even during these covid cautious times. Lovely location.
We arrived and no one was at reception, we had to call Sykes to find out how to get keys. Hot tub wasn't ready until 5pm in the second day. When only there for 3 nights not really acceptable. On departure told you leave keys at reception and again no one there. Called Sykes and they couldn't get hold of anyone at hill field. After waiting 15 minutes I left keys in lodge and left.
We have just returned home from our holibob at keepers Lodge after spending a lovely week celebrating families 60th and a 30th birthdays . Cant fault the accommodation , spacious and clean , lovely linen and fluffy towels provided, 7 minutes from Sainsburys for those vital beverages

The property was lovely and clean, difficult to find in the dark and reception is closed most of the time in the village. The property was smaller than expected for 10 guests this was not an issue but is smaller than what it looks like in the pictures. There was a really good washing machine and tumble dryer which with 8 children really was a bonus. Kitchen equipment was all of really good quality and plenty of plates and cutlery. Only negative is that there was no hoover!! There was a broom and dustpan and brush! If only staying for a few days would not have been much of a problem but 7 days of sweeping the floor, and then no mop either to clean the floor by day 7 the floors were not pleasant! Also the parking is not directly in front of the property, its not far away but there is not allocated parking instead parking spaces for a few cottages in a row, one night all the spaces were filled and I had to park further away which was a bit annoying.

Just had a lovely week at Hillside Village Keepers Lodge was excellent great design clean with high class fixtures and fittings . The whole family enjoyed the accommodationHot TubTennis Court however prior to arriving you made no mention of the various several building schemes going on around the site currently and the missing boules area and we were also told that the old swimming pool area had been redesigned into a family area it is still a derelict poolbuilding site and that whole area is unsightly we would return when it is all finished hopefully there will be more family friendly amenities in the future when all the bulilding projects are finished as I think this did impact on the overall appearance of the village think u should mention this currently on your booking site as it comes of a bit of a surprise when you first arrive however it did not spoil our holiday xx

Great relaxing holiday for our family. Accommodation, not least the hot tub, brilliant and a very high standard. Great base from which to explore the area with a beach close by. A pub within easy reach also, The Sportsman, ideal for a good meal with lots of choice. We will certainly recommend Hillfield to our friends, well done Sykes, we all want to return thats for sure.
Booked this holiday specifically for the outside swimming pool Very disappointed that it was not available
Graham
The cottage was immaculately clean and perfect for our stay. Coast and country kept us up to date with potential issue with cottage which was sorted before we arrived Very happy holiday and would not hesitate to recommend
When holiday was booked I did not see any mention that the pool and children's ... When holiday was booked I did not see any mention that the pool and children's play area was not going to be available, it was only some months later I received an email to say they will be closed, I thought only the assumption it was due to covid, but when we arrived we saw other building works being done that was not mentioned, very disappointed and dispointing for my 4 grandchildren, the accommodation itself was first class, I will not be recommending that holiday village or maybe sykes holidays in the
The village and lodge, we cant fault, but the swimming pool being closed and kids play area really impacted our holiday for our 2 kids, after being told the pool was shut due to covid, once we found the pool it was actually under repair, having a new floor by the looks of it, I did wonder why pools were open at our last place the week before in st ives, it seems you've used the covid situation to repair the pool, but sadly the 2 draws for the children were missing, we enjoyed our stay but it did affect the overall enjoyment. I tried to discuss and sort some form of recompense before the holiday to be told it's not your fault but the government said pools could open and you chose to repair the pool in height of season and close the play area, it says on the hillfield website you'll follow government guidelines....with hillfield village repairing it in height of season it then gives you a reason not to open it as it wont be possible, I feel it could of been done after the height of season, after all the tennis court was a free for all whilst we were there! .
Fantastic property, photographs don't do it justice, masses of space and excellent facilities everything you can think of is provided.
Joanne
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, the house was lovely, clean and spacious and we would most definitely book again. There were only two things that we felt you could improve on 1. One of the reason we booked the holiday cottage was for the swimming pool, but unfortunately we could not use the swimming pool as it was not heated. It may be worth your while investing in heating the swimming pool especially for guest like us that booked near the end of the season and the weather isn't that favourable. 2. Lack of recycling facilities. There was no special bins for recycling, at home we have all different bins for each product and it grieved me to be putting all different rubbish, ie food, cans, paper, plastic in the same bin. The only recycling you did was glass.
Patricia
The Keepers Lodge was fully equipped with everything for an enjoyable holiday, The hot tub was a just the right temperature for all of us to enjoy, and the rooms were just right for us. There was plenty of hot water for all of the showers and jacuzzi bath, which has used daily. The gardens were beautiful and well managed, maybe a 2nd tennis court could be added. Maybe a map showing were the nearest supermarket could be added to the welcome pack for future guests.
Ronald
Keeper's Lodge was an excellent holiday cottage. The facilities were first class and Hillfield Village itself was an excellent place for families with very friendly and helpful staff. One minor comment, the swimming pool was unheated, which was not specified.
