West Hayne cottage is a hidden gem in Devon. Upon arrival we had a tour of the property/grounds, the welcome we received was wonderful. This is a lovely cottage - in a wonderful part of the world. We (including our 2 dogs) were made to feel extremely welcome. There was everything we needed in the cottage - and the hot tub provided us with a superb way to end the day after going for extensive hikes through the surrounding countryside. This is truly a hidden gem, the location and scenery are wonderful. Their are some lovely walks nearby and local area is dotted with some lovely pubs and eateries. We never had a meal anywhere. If you are looking for a fun family day out with a difference then a visit to the Hedgehog Hospital is a great choice. While visiting the hospital children can learn about these shy wild animals and the dangers they face in the wild as well as how we can help them. The farm is a halfway house for sick hedgehogs and children can meet some of the animals that are almost ready to go back to the wild. The farm also has a gift shop, a coffee shop and a wildlife garden as well as a pet's area with Rabbits and Guinea Pigs.

Exmoor Zoo is described as a "family zoo" on their website and it certainly makes a great day out for families. There are many exotic and rare animals as well as birds to see which are living in natural surroundings.
