Kirkham House Reviews

Nicola
Lovely victorian house in a perfect location, just less than a minute to Matlock Bath, deceptively large too, beds were so comfy with good quality bedding, it's the little things like that and the fab welcome pack that you remember. Neil and Helen sorry if I've got that wrong were both friendly, easy to reach and quick to respond to any questions or queries we had. Definitely a 1010 from us ! We're a group of 50 friends, eight of us all together, Kirkham House was perfect for our break away
Lindsey
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay here. The location was perfect as everything was so close there was no need to drive some days. The house was clean, comfortable and warm. The facilities were great from the hot tub to the sound system. We will definitely be back and would not hesitate to recommend this lovely house.
A great stay in Kirkham House, the house is in a fab spot with lovely views. There were 6 of us with a couple of the teenagers going in the studio and this worked really well. Wed definitely recommend and stay again, we love the area! Thanks for having us.
Overall Kirkham house generally was a lovely place and well equipped suitable for all sizes of family. Plenty of room, three large double bedrooms and a studio for the young ones.Good sized garage to get your car in albeit a bit of a knack to get down the driveway and to do a 90 turn in such a tight space. Good base for seeing the peak district local amenities good especially if you want fish and chips. Ideal location if you are planning on seeing other areas Buxton , Bakewell Chatsworth house and especially if you like walking. The dog felt at home and had plenty of places to go for walks such as the Monsal trail and enjoyed watching the world go by from the terrace. However, a few items which took the edge off the holiday and which is why we couldnt give it excellent rating. items such as some of the crockery were chipped and the base of the shower hadnt been completed or sealed. Overall, a good holiday with a good amenities including a hot tub and the welcome basket our host couldnt arrange the weather for us, but they were on hand if we needed them
Wish we could have stayed longer. Location of the house is great, had everything you could wish for. The welcome pack was a bonus and much appreciated. Would love to return in the future and have no problem in recommending this house.
Kirkham house was a lovely place to stay with family and doggie. The welcome pack was so nice, everything needed for a movie night! The games were great for the kids, as was the hot tub, and the little sun trap patio was so nice when the sun came out. Everything was great. Comfy bed, plenty of kitchen utensils, plenty of room everywhere. The only thing that we found that didn't work out as well for us was the studio annexe. Such a lovely little space, that would have been perfect for teenagers, but our grandchildren weren't old enough to be in there alone without an adjoining door to the house. And none of the adults were up to climbing up a ladder to get in the bunk bed! So we had to make a bed up on the floor next to one of the double beds so that all 3 kids could sleep in the same double bedroom in the house, and the studio was used for kids to play games in while we watched out from the above patio. Having said that, that particular situation was unique for us. We realize it wouldn't be possible to have an adjoining door, but would have made things so much easier if it had. All in all though, a lovely house and happy family memories made.

Fantastic stay, couldn't fault it at all !

We had a wonderful weekend at Kirkham House, which is directly behind the main street of Matlock Bath. The house itself was lovely, with everything we could possibly need and with the comfiest beds ever! Everything was really clean and well cared for. The house is dog friendly, with a safe terrace area and our Beagle had a marvellous time too Neil the owner was great, providing us with some really useful info and ideas of places to visit, and the welcome pack was a lovely surprise. I would definitely recommend Kirkham House to anyone visiting the Matlock area, it was so homely and welcoming, with lots of attractions near by.
The location of the property in the heart of Matlock was perfect, just steps away from the main promenade. The communication from the owner 'Neil' was excellent before, during and after our stay and he seems to be a very helpful and 'hands on' host. His advice on parking in the garage was very much appreciated. The accommodation was very spacious with good sized bedrooms and comfy beds. The bathroom and shower were lovely with plenty of hot water. We enjoyed the hot tub once we'd fished the foliage out!. For us 6 in our party we all agreed it was just let down by the lack of cleanliness. Under the beds in two of the bedrooms we found food pasta & a couple of baked beans tissues, crayons, sponge bullets from a child's toy and lots of dusty tumbleweeds. The downstairs living room carpet was covered in crumbsdust too. We tried to hoover this on our fist day but the hoover barely worked and smelt awful. We accept it was a dog friendly property but the doggy smell was quite overpowering. The kitchen cupboards were way too full. With food & drink for 6 adults for 4 days we struggled to find sufficient space to store our own items. We ended up emptying a couple of cupboards into other cupboards so we could store our own food. We did have to clean them first though as the shelves were sticky and dirty. The outside space needs a tidy up and a clean. Lots of dead plants & weeds in old pots, lights that didn't work, upturned tubs of bird food, and lots of debris on the artificial grass etc. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The weather was beautiful and we were able to spend the majority of our time outdoors visiting the local attractions. With regards to the property, a bit of a 'deep clean' a decluttering of the kitchen cupboards, and a new hoover would make for a more comfortable stay for future visitors.

Party of 7. Lovely house, well set out, very well equipped. The teenage boys with us loved their space staying in the studio. The welcome package was a lovely touch and well used! The owner was very friendly and helpful. If we stay in Matlock again we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Kirkham House again.
An incredible stay at Kirkham House for a few nights from 4th 6th April. The accommodation was cosy and an absolutely beautiful building. There is plenty of space for us and the pooch. Every essential item is provided and the welcome basket was gratefully received. A wet and windy few days weather wise but the hot tub was an added bonus. We look forward to booking again in the future as we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much!
Reemal
What a fantastic place to stay the location is amazing in the heart of Matlock bay and walking distance to Abraham heights. The property owner was very helpful and at hand for anything that we needed. Parking don't bother trying to squeeze into the garage as it is verry tight! just take advantage of the parking at the top, or the carpark. hot tub was an added bonus for our holiday. Lots to do and the welcome pack was great. Would book again and thank you again for allowing us to stay. Reemal
We loved our stay at Kirkham house. The location was fantastic and the basket of goodies left was a really nice touch. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and it was a perfect getaway to chill in the hot tub and take leisurely walks. It was a particularly cold few days though and with the house being so large it was a bit chilly at times. However the log burner helped. We would definitely recommend staying there.
Fabulous house right in the heart of Matlock Bath, lovely big place with lots of room and comfort. Everything we needed for a winter weekend away. Would definitely recommend
Kirkham house was perfect for our family stay. The cottage was really cosy and well equipped. Our older kids loved having their own space in the Studio. Neil couldnt have been more helpful & accommodating, allowing early and late checkin and posting forgotten highlights. We loved Matlock bath, so many fish & chips Kostas was great. The Cavery at the Fishpond was fantastic too! Wed definitely recommend.
We absolutely loved this property it had everything we needed and more! I cant think of any negatives and we would definitely recommend and rebook Kirkham house
Me and my family had an amazing stay at Kirkham House. The property was very clean, tidy and comfortable. The bed rooms was very well decorated and the toilet when we sat on the loo there is an amazing view at matlock bath, lol. We would definitely be going back
Elizabeth
House is lovely. Beds were comfy. Very spacious, would be great with kids and dogs although we were escaping ours. Host super friendly and available if needed. Good local amenities and everyone in the local pubs and restaurants are happy to see you, chat and make recommendations. Had a great break
Deborah
What a lovely place to stay ! We had a fantastic time. The house is really comfortable and everything you could possibly need is provided. The jacuzzi is a wonderful bonus and was lovely to relax in. There are lots of things within walking distance and even more just a short drive away. Communications from the host were brilliant and really helpful. We off loaded then parked in the Temple Walk car park which wasn't expensive for a 'rover ticket' and meant we could park in lots of other car parks in the area without an additional charge. It's such a short walk from the house and you get to look in all the shops on the way. I would highly recommend Kirkham House and hopefully we can come an stay again soon.
The house was beautiful and in a fabulous place. There was a slight issue with the hot tub but that was sorted very quickly once I contacted the owner.
Neil the owner could not have been more attentive. He contacted me on the day of the holiday to welcome and introduce himself. As the cottage was ready early we got in early and he allowed us to stay til lunch on the leaving day We had a lovely second pack which was a lovely surprise. He contacted us on the Saturday to check all ok and made sure we were happy He was just a super host, thanks Neil We had a very large estate Audi and we got it in and out if the garage , a little manoeuvring but it went in We had such a super time and would highly recommend the cottage Its right in the centre but up a quiet street literally 30 steps from the Main Street, perfectly situated Just couldnt have been better Thank you Neil fir hosting us do well
What a lovely house! Comfortable beds, lovely bathroom with a great bath and shower, and the hot tub was so lovely. Everything you could needwant in the kitchen and other general household facilities. Check in and check out very easy, and the location of the property is so convenient. Literally 15 steps out of the door and youre on the Main Street. In all a lovely time away, and a beautiful house to stay in. Would very much recommend.
Christine
What an amazing old house, beautifully maintained. Lovely terrace, dining table was big enough for 8but possibly could extend. Cosy chairs and a huge corner sofa. Well stocked kitchen with everything we needed. The three bedrooms were very comfortable with huge chest of drawers and hanging space
Daniel
Outstanding experience overall, Kirkham house was an ideal location and the facilities were better than described. The host Neil was very accommodating to my requests, quick to respond and very friendly, I would 100 recommend this property to friends and family. Hoping to return myself in the near future.
A lovely quirky property in the heart of Matlock Bath. Excellent communication with the owner and clear check inout information. Location could not be better. Spotlessly clean and lovely welcome pack. Parking is limited around the property and garage is a struggled with a larger car. Ok for a smaller car but lots reasonably priced public parking nearby. Would definitely stay here again.
Rebecca
Lovely stay in a lovely home. Brilliant facilities in a fantastic location. The house had everything we needed for the whole family and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for my husband's 50th birthday. Thanks once again.
Lovely stay only issue was parking to load and unload. Garage very tight to get into so happy to park in town carpark but even stoping outside house was difficult
Hi,I've just stayed at this cottage this weekend for my 40th birthday. Had a really good time and experience. The cottage is lovely and very central to Matlock Bath.Hot tub great.would highly recommend. The studio is a great feature too.
Sylvia
Directions were good but parking in the garage was a challenge! great location loved being able to just walk out the door into the village no where to get milkbread though? Without going into Matlock itself? lovely welcome pack on arrival unfortunately though some cleaning issues which we immediately reported to the owner and we were a little perplexed that although marketed for 8 persons the hot tub was only for 4?? Apart from that all good
Lovely comfy cottage, surprisingly spacious with a great open plan living space. Hot tub was a great addition. Some lovely walks from the door. Great communication with the owners, and handy messages around the cottage. Welcome hamper was lovely too!
The place is right in the middle of town but you wouldn't know it once in, there is no noise. We made plenty use of the hot tub. The kitchen has a good amount of cups, plates, cooking utensils etc. The windows are a little draughty due to the age of the building but the ample central heating copes brilliantly with the temperature. The beds were very comfy. The sonos sound system was a good touch, will definitely recommend this place.
Christopher
Had a nice short break here with the family after New Year. The owner was easy to contact and very helpful. Location was nice and central. The property was very spacious and had good character and the kids loved the sound system! The Hot tub was a nice bonus, but with the poor weather, would have benefited from a shelter over it for rainy days. We enjoyed our stay overall and will definitely consider returning when the local attractions are open. Best regards, Chris and Family.
We had a fabulous stay for new year, close to all of the amenities. We went on some lovely walks and had a very tasty carvery at the fish pond pub. The hamper we received from the owner was very thoughtful. Thank you.
Property just as described, Extremely comfy beds with good bedding linen. Hot tub was enjoyed. Great location to Matlock Bath. Quick response by owner when needed.
Kirsty
Lovely house, very well presented inside and a thoughtful hamper presented upon arrival. Instructions given were clear, house was clean and tidy and perfect stay for what we needed.
Sharron
We decided to go to Matlock bath because of it is so family orientated. Before our arrival we were warned that there had been a spill in the kitchen. The owner spoke to us on the phone and later made at least 2 visits to the cottage to ensure we were warm and dry. He offered us compensation that included a voucher for the fish and chip shop which we very much enjoyed. The cottage was spacious there were 7 of us staying with a well equipped kitchen. My eldest grandson stayed in the studio and loved having his own space. The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to find that the shower was a good size. The hot tub was easy to use and most appreciated after a day walking around the theme park etc. We were surprised to find vegan food available in 2 of the local cafes. This was a bonus for us as 2 of our party are lactose intolerant. Matlock illuminations were on with a firework display on the Saturday. The park was lit with fairy lights and the streets were filled with families. The atmosphere was brilliant and most of the children were carrying a light up toy. We visited most of the attractions, Gullivers Kingdom, Heights of Abraham, the aquarium, steam railway and can recommend them all. It's cheaper to book your tickets on line but you still have to join the queue to get in. The only down side we found to staying in Matlock bath was that there was no corner shop when you needed a pint of milk etc. However the local Sainsburys is only a mile down the road. It was really easy to get to and sold everything.
Andrew
We had a wonderful stay at Kirkham House. Everything was perfect. The host was very helpful with some generous extra touches. The property has everything you need and the location is brilliant. We cant wait to stay here again.
I stayed at Kirkham house over the bank holiday. For a special birthday with friends. We all loved the house. It had everything we needed and in such a great location.Plenty of eateries right on the door step. Not long after we arrived the area had a power cut and the owner was very quick and efficient in letting us know and was prepared to bring us food. Should it have lasted a long time.Which it didnt.Going above and beyond.Thank you for such an amazing stay.
We had a wonderful stay. Neil was very helpful with his communication. Great location, nice and clean. Would thoroughly recommend.
