Ramblers Rest Reviews

Where to start, based on previous reviews for this property i am surprised to be leaving this feedback. It does appear that most of the issues experienced are probably outwith the owners direct control and most likely lie with 3rd party contractors cleaners, hot tub maintenance & holiday park, however all issues stated below did affect out experience and the lack of communication and feedback from either the owner or Sykes has frankly been shocking. Firstly the overall cleanliness was very poor. The Hot tub water did not look like it had been changed since the previous guests, dishes were dirty, there was dust and cobwebs in a number of places and the bedsheets were already covered in dog hair on arrival. Its seems the only housekeeping that had been done since the previous guest was to replace the bedsheets and towels. On Friday the hot tub was accidentally drained by the hot tub maintenance company and left like this until 3pm. This ruined the one day of the week we had intended to spend at the caravan all day. To top this off it also became apparent that there was no water, not even one drop. On speaking to people from the park we were informed this is common on a change over day so Friday and Monday as water is supplied from a bore hole and due to the number of hot tubs on site there is not enough water to go around. As such we were forced to go out for the day. However what makes this worse was the lack of feedback and communication from either the owner of Skyes, it was impossible to get hold of either. After a number of hours trying to get hold of someone to sort this issue either by phone, messages or email i gave up and went out. Upon return at 3pm the owner was filling the hot tub again. The owner did state that would reimburse us for that days stay and an email would follow, no email has since been recieved. Sykes did eventually get in contact via phone 30 hours afterwards and compensation was discussed, however again no further feedback has since been recieved and no compensation given. The restaurant on site is extremely poor. If your lucky you will get a drink after a 30 minute wait but expect the food to be limited to a burger and chips only. The restaurant was also extremely filthy and staff miserable. I would say that the over all location is reasonable and the caravan does have a good range of facilities. These is sky, a smart TV and a number of other usefully items. The owners did leave a nice welcome pack with prosecco and some goodies which was nice. Its just unfortunate that everything else did not reflect the same high standard else this review would have been very different. I would not recommended ever booking through Skyes as they are impossible to get hold of. I would recommended avoiding this park if you plan on staying over change over days as you will have no water all day with no prior warning!
Excellent accommodation with all the necessary equipment for a week's stay. The very generous welcome pack was much appreciated, thank you . The lodge is in a beautiful part of the country close to stunning beaches and numerous castles.
Property was good but could benefit from a deep clean to bring the standard a little higher. This is the 2nd time of visiting the park but we wouldnt return, we feel the standards have sadly deteriorated, the crazy horse pub on site on our last visit was excellent, sadly they are no longer offering a full menu of food and the entertainment wasnt as advertised, it could also benefit from a deep clean and some modernisation. A real shame as we did enjoy visiting this park on our last visit.
Caroline
A lovely area to visit but unfortunately this accommodation fell short of our expectations. The water in the hot tub was dirty and this took a couple of phone calls to the owners to sort out. The water pressure was really low at times. There was mould in the cupboard under the sink and the wardrobe in the main bedroom. I would not recommend staying here.
Nicola
Lovely caravanLodge. Very clean and comfortable. All we wanted and more. Hot tub was amazing, we used it every evening even when it rained. Wonderful base for exploring Northumberland.
Ursula
On arrival we were disappointed to find that the property had not been properly cleaned. This was soon rectified when the owner was contacted and he put right what was wrong. You can see that the property, which has everything you require, has been updated in the bedrooms but elsewhere is in need of some tlc ie ensuite radiator is dusty and rusty, the outside bottom of the shower cubicle is mouldy. The property is well situated for the numerous things to do and see in the area. The welcome pack is a lovely gesture and much appreciated.Sky tv was a bonus too.
Think the site needs a shop for groceries other than that spot on
Jonathon
Excellent property, clean well presented, lovely welcome pack .
Lots of extras which were very much appreciated everything was thought of Sky coffee machine even an ironing board so many to mention ! home from home nice surprise! Lovely quiet location which definitely surprised us never been on a park before. Very dog friendly. Hot tub is fabulous. Change over days water pressure is very low or non existent but only until lunchtime.
Natalie
Loved the welcome pack and access to sky. Clear thought by the owners on the things provided for use really well equipped. Hot tub was also a bonus as was the washer and tumble dryer. Wish we had a longer stay only slight disappointment was not being able to have a bbq but understand the reasoning behind it and it really didnt spoil our overall stay.
Alison
Lovely holiday home with good facilities. Welcome pack was a lovely surprise.
We really felt comfortable at Ramblers Rest the accommodation was really clean apart from dust behind the double bed, only noticed it by chance but definitely not a criticism just an oversight. Mel was really lovely and helpful.
Joanna
Very lovely
Excellent property. Everything you could ask for and more.
Excellent property comfortable and good quality fixtures and fittings
I have marked the accuracy of listing down slightly as the photos from the outside were obviously taken when the lodge was newer, it is quite old but has been maintained to a high standard. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and the hot tub was fab. The owner has given great consideration to ensuring your stay is a home from home. Would book again and recommend to family and friends.
Excellent location to see the area, friendly and lovely dog friendly site
Angela
Perfect stay, everything you needed. Hot tub fantastic. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay including our two dogs, great location to travel the coast.
Jacqueline
The property was excellent. Everything you need to make it home from home. Sky tv and WiFi a bonus. Loved the hot tub. The welcome pack was a great surprise. The park is lovely, a small shop with basics would be a good addition.
Easy to find , everything you could possibly need , excellent hot tub and ... Easy to find , everything you could possibly need , excellent hot tub and seating facilities around the lodge , lots to do around the surrounding areas , restaurant is great value for money with very impressive portions
We had a lovely time despite a problem with the radiator in the twin bedroom. We reported it and had an immediate response with suggestions to rectify it. When this didnt solve the problem the owner organised someone to come and fix the problem. We were very grateful. Loved the touch of the welcome goodies.
Colleen
What a beautiful lodge. It had everything we needed and wee hamper was a lovely surprise. Everything was lovely and clean.
Fantastic lodge with all home comforts the owners are lovely people with excellent local knowledge will definitely return.
Lovely and quiet park! Hot tub was amazing the caravan had everything needed for our stay and the welcome pack was a nice surprise Jasper my dog loved it thank you.

Elizabeth
Gorgeous setting, lovely hot tub, close to everywhere we wanted to visit x
A lovely space for a holiday. to the hot tub was great. When we had questions the owners replied very quickly. We would love to stay again.
Best Lodge ever ! ! Cleanliness, comfort, attention to detail, amazing. My elderly Mother didn't want to leave. Lovely tidy quiet site with a lake & mature trees. The bonus of the Hot Tub & proximity to many major attractions & shopping centres made the choice of this accomodation a no brainer.
Everything we needed was supplied, even down to a washer and dryer, and dressing gowns. Furnished lovely and lovely welcome basket
A brilliant base for our trip around Northumberland, out in countryside but not far away from towns. The Rambkers rest was extremely clean and comfortable!! Already looking into next trip!
The facilities and the lodge were both great but it wasn't as clean as expected, despite how new everything is. Just an offputting oversight, I imagine. It's odd that I haven't been to a very clean Sykes cottage yet, and I have never complained up til now, perhaps because I felt I hadn't paid enough and maybe I somehow deserved it?? This time it was expensive. There is no WiFi, even though Sykes advertise it. The rest of it, the hot tub, the park, and the caravan itself was beautiful.

The rhododendron labyrinth is a unique and fun addition to the grounds and there is also an adventure playground where children can let of steam. It is the stunning scenery that attracts most of the visitors though with many bringing a picnic for a relaxing family day out. The house itself hosts exhibits which change regularly. Go Ape Northumberland - NE48 1NT

Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.
