Our stay at The Retreat was fantastic! It’s super cosy and feels quite luxurious. The place is thoughtfully stocked with everything you could possibly need. We especially loved chilling in the hot tub and taking in those stunning views. Absolutely loved it!
Emma
Absolutely loved it! Stunning views, super peacefuland the perfect spot to unwind and refresh.
Emma
We had a lovely stay at this cosy, private lodge. It’s tucked away down a narrow farm track, so it feels really secluded. The place is only a few years old and kept in excellent condition. Waking up to stunning views over Rascarrel Bay was a highlight. The lodge is super well-equipped and comfy, with direct access from the bedroom and bathroom to the hot tub and sauna - perfect for relaxing. Fiona, the owner, was super friendly and helpful. Plus, it’s dog friendly, which was a big plus for us. Only downside is there’s no charging point for electric cars on-site, but we really enjoyed our week here. Thanks!
Emma
We loved our second visit to the Retreat! The surroundings are breathtaking and the hot tub plus sauna are just perfect. Plenty of lovely walks nearby. Can’t wait to come back soon, it’s truly special!

Honestly, this place is a gem! We needed somewhere to support my partner’s recovery after surgeryand it was perfect. The lodges are spacious, comfyand have everything you could ask for - really felt like a home away from home. Waking up to views of the sea and watching storms roll in was incredible. Big thanks to the owners for the lovely welcome with flowers, wineand chocolates; it made all the difference. We’ve already booked again, can’t wait to return!

We loved our stay at Rascarrel Bay! The lodge was lovelyand the surrounding area is just stunning. Unfortunately, I had to cut our trip short because of health issues, which was a real shame. Can’t wait to return and enjoy it properly next time!
Emma
Honestly, we loved this place! It’s rare to find somewhere so well-equipped - a dishwasher, wine coolerand a hot tub, all spotless and really cosy. The sauna was a lovely touch too. We didn’t want to leave, which says a lot about how great it was. Truly the perfect getaway, definitely recommend it!
Lucy
We’ve just come back from our third visit to this lovely place. The house is super comfy and has all the essentials we need. The outdoor area is fantastic, with gorgeous views of the sea, sunriseand sunset. It’s really dog-friendly, though our older pup is finding the steps a bit tricky now. The hot tub and sauna are just the perfect touch. We’re already planning to return. Thanks to the wonderful hosts for the warm welcome and treats!

Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ

We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Laggan Outdoor - DG7 3NQ

An outdoor activity center suitable for families. Featuring one of Europe's longest zip wires, jeep driving, grass sledging, archery, outdoor scooters. A mix of fun and adreneline rides and a lot more.

about 17 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 27 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
