The Loft Reviews

We had a lovely stay, the furniture has been updated since the photos were taken and was nicer than I expected, everything really good for the price, and so warm and comfortable with everything we needed. Aileen couldnt have been more helpful, I had a flat tire on the last day and she arranged for it to be pumped up and drove with me to the garage in case of problems. Thank you! The only downside was that Id intended to put my younger son who has additional needs in the smaller bedroom but as the window was a fire escape onto the roof it wasnt safe for him to be in unsupervised. I dont know this would be a problem for most families though!

We had a great stay at the loft, we loved the hustle and bustle of the working farm completely different atmosphere to what we're used to and loved being surrounded by nature. The location was great and easily accessible to many areas with a drive. The hot tub was an added bonus, which we all enjoyed. One very large room with 2 double beds and a smaller room with a double bed, my boys were made up getting to sleep in their own double bed whilst I had the smaller room for myself. Everyone was lovely and welcoming. Aileen was a great host and even shown us around the farm where I got to see my beloved Highland cows. Thank you for a great stay, which was exactly what I needed a break away from everything, making our stay a wonderful home from home. When we arrived there was a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers, milk and biscuits again exactly what was needed after a long journey. Thank you Aileen and Andrew for a great stay, I will be back again in the future

The Loft was comfortable and had everything we needed for our few days away. Aileen was very helpful with the few questions we asked and sorted out the cheeping smoke alarm as soon as we mentioned it. There is some building work going on it is was it is, but it didnt disturb us at all. We made use of the hot tub welcome after a busy day! The working farm was certainly busy, and there is farmyard noise but it was nice to be in the midst of it and the lovely farm dogs made our dog Stella very welcome! A nice base for a few days sightseeing no complaints from us.

On first inspection the cottage seems lovely, shown where hot tub was which was inside a dirty building which was surrounded by furniture from one of the cottages, only found the games room by chance as wasnt shown it, it only had pool table and football game, the table tennis table was flat up against the wall and darts board had no darts, this building was also very messy and dirty, not suitable for children as stairs up to it are steel and dangerous if a child fell. We only had half a shelf to put our food stuff in as all the cupboards were full of rubbish, and two of the pots we were using had to be washed as they had dried in food on them, no locks on bathroom doors, and the noise from the pipes during the night and day was awful you had to get out of bed and run the water for the noise to stop. This place is not near anything which is what we wanted, we only wanted to relax not sightsee, the hot tub and games room was what sold it for us given us exactly what we wanted but we were very disappointed as wouldnt use hot tub inside that dirty building, dont know why it couldnt have been outside as there was plenty of space, and games room was a total let down as it didnt supply what it offered and needs a good clean and clear out,we never once saw the owner to ask us if everything was okay not even when leaving.

Fantastic stay at the loft cottages. The host Aileen was amazing from Arrival very friendly and welcoming with our family. Her dogs they were fantastic with ours. Hot tub was Amazing! Looking to book back up again soon. Thanks for a fantastic getaway xx

We had a lovely stay here, the owners were really nice and friendly. Little bit Noisy, but then it is a working farm, and advertised as a working farm, so you know what to expect. Annan, is a great little town, with lovely river walks for the dogs and we went on an entertaining ghost tour. Plenty of places to eat, and easy distance to local attractions. The farm animals looked clean and well looked after,We had a really nice time
Lovely place to stay. Would definitely recommend. Owner was very friendly. The kids loved seeing the cows and the donkey. We visited the dino park close by and enjoyed walks along the river. Hopefully we can come back again next year
Elaine
Nice rural cottage on a farm. It was comfortable and well equipped. In a good position for exploring the area. The owner was lovely and friendly.
Lovely homely cottage in amazing countryside.
Great facilities and lovely quiet place. Local walks are lovely.
Lovely family and would love to stay again.

Went away for a few nights break with a friend. We were welcomed by the owner who showed us round. Cottage was a cosy, homely place with ample space throughout. The hot tub was really good and handy that its indoors with a shower/WC. It's a working farm with livestock but wasn't put off by that. Would go back again.
The Loft was cosy and welcoming. It felt like home for home. Good high pressure shower with lots of fluffy towels available. The beds were very comfortable with blackout blinds in the bedrooms to allow a great night's sleep. We have returned home feeling refreshed and will definitely be back
Had a great break away, the accommodation was great and ideal for the two of us. Lovely views and very close to various walks and bike rides in the area. We made good use of the hot tub and also the games room. Each morning, as soon as you opened the accommodation door you got greeted by the owners dog with his tail wagging and ball in his mouth wanting to play All in all a great time, Would defiantly stay here again.
Superb place, away from it all but close enough to essential services. Host Aileen is an amazing, friendly and informative host. Nothing too much trouble. Cottages on a working farm, beautifully presented. Flowers biscuits and milk on arrival were a real personal touch. Sad to depart
The fridge makes a loud humming noise that is irritating, loved the fact there ... The fridge makes a loud humming noise that is irritating, loved the fact there where dogs on the farm but not ideal when we had to take our own dog out for the toilet because she isn't the beat with other dogs, overall a lovely place
Sharon
Very welcoming family. Great location for things to do around the borders. Clean and homely accommodation. I would highly recommend this cottage.

Very hospitable hosts. . Perfect location to visit the Borders.Very comfortable and clean.
Perfect little cottage on a working farm beautiful peaceful and very homely there were lots of little touches that made it so perfect tea bags condiments ,toilet paper, soap , milk ,towels ,iron hairdryer too many to list the owners were so welcoming and very helpful would definitely recommend to others. Scenery was amazing !!
We liked the farm setting, animals and the very welcoming owners. The kitchen was well equipped, the bedrooms were comfortable and the heating was great.
A well set up cottage with plenty of room for two. A good base for exploring Southern Scotland. Enjoyed our stay.
The host of the property was lovely. The accommodation was very clean and smart looking and very warm. The place was situated in a very quiet location and we could go and leave as we please. It was a very relaxing holiday with the added bonus of a hot tub room with TV. A very nice place to stay.
The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, we received a very warm and friendly welcome from the owner, and she was more than happy to make our holiday both memorable and enjoyable and we would be more than happy to stay in the cottage again! The location was ideal for us to attend a wedding at Gretna Green as Dumbretton Farm is only 10 minutes drive away. We visited many places during our stay including Edinburgh, Stirling and Roslyn Chapel, but the highlight of the week had to be visiting the Red Kite Feeding station in Laurieston which was a truly amazing experience and well worth the 1 hour drive.
The property far exceeded all expectations in every respect. The owner and the 2 dogs gave us a charming welcome and her attention to detail including welcome tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh flowers was much appreciated. We have never stayed in a rented property so well equipped or cared for. It was a real treat.
Dumbretton Farm is extremely beautiful and clean. Everything that you would need in a home is provided in the cottage. Owners are very nice and welcoming. This meant that all you had to do was find your entertainment. The games room was brilliant with table tennis and the hot tub was amazing. The park and grass area was fab too with plenty space to play games. Definitely a relaxing holiday break for a family. We ventured out to Dumfries and Carlisle and found plenty places to visit.
The absolute friendliness shown by the Owner. A welcome including fresh flowers, two pints of milk, supply of tea, coffee, sugar, variety of herbs and condiments - it was definitely home from home. Exceptionally clean farm premises, a working farm, very busy but immaculately clean. A well equipped playing field for any age children, plus hot tub etc. Two very friendly and well trained dogs came to welcome us each time we returned to the premises. Merits all of the excellent ratings I have given. Even the weather was good!
It was very easy to find. The owners were lovely and very friendly. Their younger son entertained our children. Hot tub was fantastic, overall a great place.
For a quiet, good, entertaining holiday with a difference The Loft is a must! The hot-tub was brill as well as the games room. If you are the type of family who likes visiting places, it is a perfect central point.
Good property for visiting the area and excellent for children.
The owners of the cottage went above and beyond to accommodate us and make us feel welcomed. We would definitely go back.
The hot tub and Duke the dog.
Cottage was nice and clean and welcoming!

Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 14 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 16 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 23 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 29 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 29 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
