Butterdon Barn Reviews

Darren
Great place to stay fantastic walks for us and the dogs! Without having to drive anywhere! Lovely and clean and Sarah was very helpful and friendly
Couldn't fault our 3rd stay here at butterdon barn. This is by far one of our favourite places and we are already planning our walks for when we return next summer. The host Sarah is amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable of the local areawalks.
Stuart
Butterdon Barn . .what a fantastic property!!! It is without doubt one of the best places we have ever stayed in..to such an extent it cannot be recommended highly enough!!!
Malcolm
A superb house in a wonderful location, with an amazing large enclosed garden for your dogs to run free in. In close proximity to a lovely town, with some wonderful pubs, serving great food
Caroline
I love Butterdon Barn have been here on numerous occasions. Gives you a wonderful warm feeling
Stunning barn in a beautiful location ! Very comfortable & well equipped and the hot tub is amazing ! Be prepared for a very long and narrow lane to get to the barn though. You can walk into the village for basic supplies but the barn is quite remote so its quite a long walk. Would definitely recommend though.
Michael
Butterdon Barn is a delightful, comfortable property conveniently situated near many of our favourite walks on Dartmoor, and close to Moretonhampstead. The owner is friendly and helpful and we found the place clean and comfortable throughout. We have already booked again for next year.
Great place for a very relaxing new year break.
Michael
Butterdon barn is an immaculate converted barn. Spacious, clean and modern, with twists of history. Sarah and Barry were brilliant hosts and all our wants and needs were met at all times. The location and setting are beautiful and we would recommend butterdon barn to anyone. We all thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub as well! 5 all day long! We will be back!!
Angela
Second visit to Butterdon Barn and hopefully not the last. Hosts are welcoming, friendly and nearby if needed but are not obtrusive. Cottage is well equipped and comfortable, in a good location for exploring Devon. Cottage is located along a very quiet but narrow country lane, a perfect setting for getting away from it all. WiFi not working on arrival but hosts were on the case and it was back working a few days later.
Carole
We received a warm welcome. The property was as described and the owners were very approachable. We thoroughly enjoyed the location and the abundance of wildlife.
What a wonderful barn, beautifully appointed, nestling in the privacy of the countryside. Sarah and husband most welcoming and gorgeous homemade jam and eggs awaiting us, such a lovely touch. Terrace with a view, lovely comfy loungers, weather heavenly, what more could you want. Cannot wait to return.
This was our 2nd time staying at butterdon barn and it delivered just as well as the first time! We stayed for a week with our dog and our friends joined us for the bank holiday. The cottage is spacious and has everything you need. Lots of walks right from the doorstep which was perfect for us. Most of the walks are a little cross country but lots of fun and the scenery is just amazing! The lanes are fairly quiet and you can walk down to moretonhampstead. We were all exhausted each day after our long walks so a dip in the hot tub was well needed and appreciated. The grounds are very dog friendly and secure. We have just booked to stay for another week next year and can't wait to return. Thank you Sarah and Barry, see you next year!
Fantastic property with outsatnding views. Great hosts are are in adjacent propert but not over close, they provided fresh eggs, tomatoes and Homemade Jam which was superb. Hot tub was a great addition and we made much use of it. Highly reccommend this property.
Phillip
Fantastic accommodation in beautiful surroundings. Very welcoming and friendly. Perfect home from home
We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at Butterdon barn. Barry and Sarah very welcoming. It was a bonus to have such a big garden, weather for dogs or young children . Its always quite exciting when you turn up at your holiday cottage, even tho you read the description, its always great to actually see it. And this did not disappoint at all, in fact was better than envisaged. Big thanks to Sykes as this was our 3rd year with yourselves, at 3 different locations and to Barry and Sarah for making our stay so memorable
Michael
Lovely accommodation. Friendly owners. Location is idyllic. Very enjoyable .stay. Our 4th visit. Well be back.
Graham
Fabulous barn conversion in beautiful quiet location with views towards Dartmoor. Great walking from the door along the bridle path, footpaths and quiet almost traffic free lanes. Sarah and Barry are wonderful hosts. Our 2nd visit and we are sure that we shall be back again.
Michael
A great week at a lovely quiet spot.
Fabulous stay, so relaxing, slept so well. did loads and chilled too.
This cottage has everything you needed . Very cosy , beautiful setting . Lovely & clean . If you want to get away & totally chill out this is the place to recharge your batteries . The owners Barry & Sarah are at hand to help if you need anything . Both lovely friendly people . Highly recommend Butterdon Barn
Fabulous!! This is the best holiday accommodation we have visited and the only one we have returned to . Its perfect. Sarah and Barry are lovely, always available next door but not intrusive. The meat we ordered for on arrival from Barry was delicious, so tender and flavoursome. What more could you want? Lyn Marshall

We had a great holiday and felt very welcome. The owners making sure we had every thing we needed. The Barn was first class and very well insulated and comfortable. Used the hot tub every day even in the snow, a great way to relax after a days walking. Great location near to Moretonhampstead and easy to walk back in time down the old lanes which are now footpaths. Good pubs within walking distance and no need to use the car. Our dog loved the big garden .
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful cottage, in fantastic peaceful surroundings. Excellent walks right from your door. Lovely owners, who made our stay over Christmas extra special with decorations and treats for us and our dogs. Sad to leave and definitely going back!
Heather
This was our second visit to Butterdon Barn this year and it never fails to please. The barn is superbly presented, well equipped and the lovely touches on arrival were most welcome. The garden is completely secure for dogs. Even more so now that Sarah and Barry have installed a side gate so you dont need to close the front gates. The weather wasnt particularly good to us this time so we didnt use the hot tub but with several walks straight from the door we managed not only to walk locally but to get out onto the moors every day. Finally, Sarah and Barry are wonderful hosts but not at all intrusive.I can thoroughly recommend Butterdon Barn. Thank you Sarah and Barry.
Claire
A beautiful property in a great location. The accommodation was everything we wanted and more. The owners were extremely helpful but kept their distance unless we needed them. We will definitely return.
Corrina
Excellent barn far exceeded our expectations, spacious, clean and well maintained. Gardens were exceptional as were Sarah and Barry, the nicest people you could wish to meet. The location was perfect for us , rural but not isolated, walking distance to the town , as long as you enjoy hill walks, wonderful views and so much to see and do in the area, perfectly located to visit beaches, the moors, and everything in between. The best holiday rental we have ever had. Thank you both for the extra little touches which made a holiday let feel like home for the week, we certainly didnt want to leave and are already thinking about next year.
We had a fantastic time at Butterdon, very spacious and well equipped and clean, Beds where very comfortable, the gardens where well kept and spacious our two dogs loved the freedom to run ,the hot tub was a bonus! ! After a day of walking in the beautiful countryside. The owners Sarah and Barry where very Nice and always there for you if you needed them, they left jam, homemade shortbread and flapjacks and treats for the dogs.just one thing about it wish we could have stayed longer, we would highly recommend Butterdon if you love a peaceful setting this is a peaceful place to be.
Andrew
This is perfect in every way
Graham
A beautiful and very well equipped barn conversion with lots of indoor and outside space and wonderful views and such peace and quiet. Off road walking from the door including to the Fingle Bridge Inn. We arrived Friday afternoon and on Sunday booked the same week for 2023. Just wished we had discovered Butterdon Barn before! Sarah and Barry are great hosts.
Debbie
All fabulous. Wifi didn't work but the owner is aware and is doing battle with BT so I am sure will get it sorted. The barn has been beautifully converted and is a peaceful haven with wonderful hot tub. Highly recommended.
Heather
What a wonderful place Butterdon Barn is! We brought our 20 month lively Labrador Cuinn with us and he was in his element with walks on the moors straight from the door and watching the Guinea Fowl from the windows. The barn is absolutely beautiful and we used the hot tub more than we thought we would. Sarah and Barry were perfect hosts supplying us with a whole range of goodies on arrival including some biscuits for Cuinn and we bought some fabulous meat from Barry. Would we be back? Definitely yes but we are now looking to move permanently to Dartmoor. If only Butterdon Barn were for sale.
Sarah and Barry are fantastic hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle.
Natalie
Absolutely perfect We couldnt have faulted this break at all and it was just what we needed to escape Thank you
Valerie
We thorough enjoyed our stay at Butterdon Barn despite very changeable weather. Sarah, the owner had put up and decorated a Christmas tree, and there was a lovely tray of homemade goodies. She had lit the woodburner which was very welcoming. The Barn was of an exceptionally high standard and was immaculate. We loved the peace and quiet, and the fact that we could walk up onto the moor straight from the barn. We would love to return.
Nicholas
A jewel in the Crown of Devon. Really lovely hosts. We will be back
Having just spent a week in the Barn we are back home fully re charged after such a relaxing week of being out and about in the Devon fresh air. The barn is in such a peaceful spot surrounded by open land ideal for walking our dog. We were met on arrival by Sarah and Barry who straight away showed us how to operate the hot tub, inside Sarah had left eggs, tea and coffee facilities , jam , cake and biscuits all very mush appreciated. The barn was spotlessly clean and comfortable, outside is a very large secure garden which is surrounded by fields with wildlife all around . After a days walking it is nice to get into the hot tub and relax looking up at the stars which are so bright and visible due to the complete darkness which surrounds the barn when the sun goes down. Every evening we could sit outside on the patio area listening to the owl calls and other wildlife. Would we return or recommend to others YES to both . Both Barry and Sarah are on hand nearby if needed. Barry supplied us with a fresh chicken for tea one evening and it was the best chicken we have had. We had ordered all our required meat for xmas from barry which he delivered the day of departure, lamb, goose, beef , chops, ribeye and a couple of pheasants thrown in to. Now home again to noisy town living but fully recharged, a massive thank you to both Sarah and Barry for making our stay go so smoothly.
We just had the most relaxing stay at Butterdon Barn. On arrival, we had a wonderful welcome by Sarah and Barry with their tray of tea, jam, flapjacks, farm eggs and milk. Our two kids and very active puppy found the garden perfect for playing in safe and securely enclosed. We loved the location in the heart of Dartmoor National Park and really enjoyed the fact that Sarah and Barry's farm surrounded us from all sides. Cows, sheep, horses, chickens, cats, dogs, foxes, many rabbits and lots of birdlife were a real treat. Apparently, there's a resident grass snake who lives somewhere near the hot tub but we didn't meet her! The barn itself is so well equipped and everything has been carefully thought out. If you want to cook a roast or bake some cakes, the utensils are all there in the kitchen cupboards. No need to bring anything from home. If you are looking for a place to work on your laptop as you rest on the farm, then this is not for you! There is no Wifi BUT we loved that! It was so lovely to switch off from the internet for a week. The kids had no screen time, which was so refreshing and being together as a family over a game of cards on the patio was perfect! The only improvement we would comment on is the water situation in the showers. It can change suddenly from hot to freezing cold but that is not a dealbreaker by any means. This place is great not only for a family of four but also two couples or four friends, as both double beds can be made into twins and both bedrooms are ensuite. We will do our very best to return here again one day! Thank you Sarah and Barry
We had a lovely stay at Butterdon Barn, our second visit to the property. Sarah and Barry were very welcoming and the provisions jam, biscuits, milk etc and flowers on the table were much appreciated. The property is in super condition and everything was just as it should be. The only thing we had forgotten was the lack of WiFi we knew wed get almost no phone signal. Whilst this can be a blessing, we did need to stay in touch with the outside world, so lots of trips to the top right hand corner of the garden were required. A really beautiful, quiet property in a stunning Dartmoor location.
The photos of the barn really don't do it justice. So spacious too, more space than we have ever had on holiday, both in the house and in the garden. I don't think that we have ever been anywhere so peaceful either when we got home our street sounded so noisy it took us a few days to adjust! Thank you for taking such good care of us whilst we were at Butterdon Barn, and also for sending us back the many items we somehow managed to leave behind. I had been looking for my book mark, and received it in the post before I even realised it was actually missing
