Mill Farm - The Farmhouse Reviews

Claire
Beautiful property in lovely large grounds. The photos really dont do the outside space justice
Claire
We had a wonderful family celebration long weekend at Mill Farm. The whole property was perfect, spacious and very well equipped. It was spotlessly clean and maintained to a high standard. David and Mandy were so kind and welcoming, as well as helpful when we needed it. I cannot recommend it highly enough. We would have given it 11 out of 10 if we could!
A beautiful property in amazing grounds. I would definitely stay again.
Robert
Excellent property. Clean and well maintained with games room and hot tub in very spacious grounds with even more leisure facilities. Zip wire, trampoline, croquet and badminton for the young and active visitors. Accommodation is very spacious and comfortable with super kitchen and dining facilities.
Absolutely amazing property the pictures and description dont do it justice. We were 3 families of 3 generations and the facilities were excellent and suited all. The snooker table was a big hit as was the hot tub. The garden was simply stunning. Lovely welcome gift on arrival and friendly host. Would highly recommend.
This is our second visit and once again we had a wonderful time and enjoyed very much staying there. David and Mandy were so helpful and made us very welcome as they did last year.
From the moment we arrived and met David and Mandy we were made to feel very welcome. We were very grateful for the lovely welcome pack they left for us. The house and gardens were beautiful, the grandkids loved the freedom of the gardens. We had a great week there celebrating a 65t birthday.
Sandra
We hired the accomodation for guests and bridesmaids for a family wedding and it was perfect. The guests were shown all the facilities when they arrived and were made to feel very welcome. We definitely would recommend this property for others.
The setting was lovely and the house comfortable enough but there were a few things that let it down badly but could easily be rectified. 1. The beds were not the size described which made for a not so comfortable stay for some, the king size bed listed is not King size and the one in the third bedroom on the first floor by the bathroom is not a standard double but a small double which is not big enough for 2 adults and the mattress is shocking! 2. The shower room has a shower that floods 3. The grounds are not secure as you would expect for somewhere that is dog friendly. 4. There was horrible rubbish on the lawn which was not only dangerous to our dog but to the abundant wildlife there. The first day the dog picked up a large lump of plastic which was obviously part of a meat packaging and this was in the middle of the lawn near the hot tub and I was lucky to have seen her do it and been able to prize it from her mouth or we would without a doubt have ended up in the vets with a very sick animal and huge bill. When I followed the dog I found the source a large bonfire site at one end of the garden by the pond, strewn with half burned nappies, bread products, bones, plastic meat and fish containers, veg, black bin bags etc etc, it was disgusting and a health hazard for animals and small children and quite shocking in such a beautiful setting. We filled 2 large bags of the detritus in order to keep my dog, other animals and children safe not something you would expect to find anywhere. There was also another black sack full of rubbish left all weekend by one of the entry gates which a wild animal has obviously attacked, can't understand it! 5, There wasn't an adequate number of plates for 10 people and serving dishes, knives were blunt and one of the ovens didn't work. That said there were lovely scones and a few basics left to start you off and basic household items left for arrival which was a great touch and made life so much easier. Lovely setting and house, just needs a few tweaks and finishing touches and it would live up to the blurb and photos.
We had a wonderful time at Daves place. The garden was so beautiful and the house was very comfortable. We felt so welcome by Dave & the lady who managed the property. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend for a holiday and we hope to return one day.
Cherith
We had an absolute ball at the house. The facilities were amazing, there was so much to do. The park, games that were provided, hamper were all additional touches that made the stay really special. The grounds surrounding the house were beautiful. We never left the place on the first day because it was such an oasis and escape from the hustle and bustle. The only fault is that the drainage in the shower could be improved.
Allison
What a fabulous place to stay. Plenty of added extra's like games, Children's play area. Huge fantastic garden with lots of lovely charm and character.
Fabulous house. Lots of things to do in the surrounding area for children. We stayed with 3 families including 4 children under 4. The house is beautiful with immaculate gardens and plenty of space. The hosts were welcoming and friendly and showed us around the house on arrival. We will be back!
A great place to stay. It had all the amenities that you need. Very comfortable beds and very clean. Plenty of crockery and utensils in the kitchen. Very large garden. Very helpful owners. Has two bathrooms and a toilet not three bathrooms as described.
Gillian
We had a wonderful weekend celebrating with family. Mill farm was very clean & welcoming. The children thought it was amazing having their own playground. Mandy was brilliant looking after us. The hot tub was well used by all & wonderful to celebrate me back to after a lovely day out at Calke Abbey.
Richard
Really enjoyed stay, didnt realise there wasnt any on suite bedrooms though. I thought the the televisions could do with updating & made more user friendly could only get terrestrial tv on one of the tvs in the lounge & couldnt get the tv to work at all in the kitchen diner. A lot of ground work going on in the garden but the owner explained what the issues were & was very friendly without being obtrusive. Facilities were great from the hot tub to the snooker room & play area for the children. Would stay again.
Hilary
We stayed here for a special birthday 6 adults, a 4 yr old, a 2 yr old and a 1 years old and had masses of space for us all. The welcome was friendly and very helpful but not in your face, the property was well equipped and there was a much appreciated welcome pack. The 2 older children loved the playground, especially the trampoline and the grounds were great although use was limited by the weather. Would definitely recommend and would be very happy to return.
A wonderful long weekend with 10 friends and a wee 3 year old at the Mill Farm! We loved it the pub down the road was also great. Beautiful garden even in the rain and felt very homely with lots of space for different activities. Big thanks to Dave and Mandy! Heartily recommend.
Stayed here for a family birthday get together. 6 adults, 3 young children and 2 dogs. The property was just amazing and the garden was stunning with a brilliant play area for the kids plus a hot tub which we all loved. We also enjoyed lots of games of hide and seek in the house. It was lovely to meet Mandy and Dave, the hosts. Super friendly and helpful. We would love to visit again when the weather is better so we can explore the area a bit more. Theres so many great places on the doorstep.
We had another excellent stay at Mill Farm it's a wonderful property and setting for our large family group and we look forward to returning again before too long!

Brilliant! Mill Farm was ideal for our annual family get together. We played snooker, enjoyed the hot tub, cooked good food, enjoyed the garden the play area was great for the children and found the house very spacious, warm and comfortable. Beds were very comfy and bathroom provision was excellent. The local pub two minutes walk provided excellent food and drink. You could not wish for a better house for a family get together.
Lovely cottage in lovely surroundings. Facilities brilliant and spotless clean. Owner and staff very friendly and inviting. We have hired many such properties over the years but this is the best yet and will Im sure return with our family for our yearly get together
Sophie
Mill Farm was a home away from home, and perfect for a preChristmas gettogether for family members ranging from age 0 to 70 not to mention the dog and kitten! . The house is warm and comfortable, with plenty of different spaces for folk to eat, chill out, play games etc. Everybody enjoyed the hot tub and snooker table, while the kids loved using the outdoor play equipment. There were also plenty of games and books to dip into. We really appreciated the festive decorations and the welcome goodies. We didnt feel the need to venture far from the house, but enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch at The Swan. Some of us had a pleasant stroll at Calke Abbey, while others explored nearby towns and the surrounding countryside. All in all, a fantastic and memorable stay thank you!
The house was amazing, we had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. The hot tub and snooker room took the facilities to another level, we also enjoyed a delicious meal at The Swan and a very enjoyable Sunday evening withe the live music there.
Samuel
Mill Farm is such an amazing place for a family stay! Everything it has to offer lives way above expectations, and the surroundings and comforts all lead to a unique and wholesome experience. We went as a party of 8 family for joint birthdays mum's and mine whilst we were there and the space, the coziness, the fires and the wild life on the grounds, helped build memories for a life time. If there was anything that was needed, the hosts were more than willing to be on hand with a smile! A must for amazing get away, and we're already planning out next!
This property is beautiful, very comfortable and has all the details you need for a break away. It is extremely clean and the amenities are first class. The owner is lovely and friendly and available should you need anything. Its the best property weve stayed at as a family and is highly recommended.
Everything you could wish for and more. The property easily catered for our family gathering 10 people with the hot tub and snooker table particularly popular as were the grounds. Our host was very helpful particularly in getting people around the floods!
Frances
We had a lovely stay as a group of couples and young children. The garden was fabulous and house had everything we needed. Nice location with lots of walks and pubs nearby. Would definitely recommend.
Beautiful spacious character property well located in a very interesting part of the country. Within walking distance of a great pub and easy access to many tourist attractions. Wonderful welcome from Mandy the housekeeper and a total service orientation focused on making our group's stay excellent. The property is very well maintained, clean and with beautiful gardens and very nice surroundings and furnishings. We will try to get back soon!
Mill Farm is a great place to stay. Plenty of room inside and outside to roam. Dave was on hand if we needed anything. I would throughly recommend this place to anyone from both a value of money perspective and a nice relaxing break. It comes with a heated hot tub, gas BBQ, board games and outdoor games equipment as well such as croquet, cricket and tennis rackets.
This was the best property we've stayed in. There was no downside, words can't even. The property was stunning and so clean. The gardens were immaculate. The hottub was awesome and we played snooker or at least tried to
Christine
We all enjoyed a family staycation in the lovely Mill Farm with 3 generations dog having a lovely time. The younger ones loved the hot tub day and night, in sunshine and rain. We had croquet and snooker tournaments, played lots of games, long walks and visited local National Trust places. The Swan and the Bulls Head were both great and we enjoyed the cream tea thoughtfully provided. Dave kept the huge garden beautifully and ever little nook and cranny were a pleasure to sit in. The house was very much a family home and very comfortable. The only thing that could have made it any better was possibly an ensuite but in an older house I understand how that may not be possible. We thank Dave for his hospitality and wish him well and hope he gets to Australia soon.
Beautiful house, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The gardens are extensive and beautifully kept, plenty of space for kids and dogs to run around. Pictures don't do the property justice. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Our host David was very welcoming and we had some lovely chats. Our young Grandaughter named him 'Tractor Dave' as he has a sit on lawn mower which he travels around the grounds on. The hot tub, games room and kids play area was a hit across all the different ages of our group. Access to walks close by including Foremark reservoir which has different length walks a cafe and a large kids playarea. Calke Abbey worth a visit, literally up the road, where we spent about 4 hours! The local pub The Swan, which was within 5 minutes walk was dog and child friendly. Does a Sunday roast and the rest of the week is Tapas meals. We are hoping to return at some point in the future. The Nicholls Family.
Daniel
A group of friends stayed for a weekend. The property is fantastic with well maintained grounds. Its a lovely big house perfect for catching up as a big group. The host was very welcoming and close by to help answer questions. There's a great pub a short walk away too for refreshments. Will definitely consider booking this property again.
Richard
I booked Mill Farm for a family celebration from arrival to departure we could not have been better cared for. The property was spotless and even better than the photographs it was perfect. Thank you David for our stay.
