The White Cottage Reviews

Thomas
My 7 friends and I stayed here over the weekend to celebrate some of our upcoming 30th birthdays and we had a fabulous time. The cottage had plenty of room for us all and we made use of the facilities. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The White Cottage and thought the welcome gifts were a lovely touch. The hot tub and outside area are brilliant even if the weather wasnt and the cottage overall is perfect for a group getaway. Theres a Table Table within walking distance and plenty of other eating and drinking establishments nearby. A small bit of feedback would be that the seal around the downstairs shower seems to have failed because the floor was well saturated after using it. I forgot to mention to Andy when he came round on checkout day but it could do with looking at. On that subject, Andy was really helpful on checkin day by coming round to show us the facilities and we appreciated that extra touch. Overall we all really enjoyed our stay at the white cottage and would highly recommend it.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at The White Cottage and we were grateful to Andy for coming over and ensuring we were settled in. Also, thanks for the welcome gifts. There were lots of things in the cottage that our children enjoyed especially the hot tub, games and cuddly fruit and vegetables! The cottage was very comfortable and ideal for a family. Lots of extra touches like throws etc were appreciated. However, it was extremely dusty. I know old places gather dust as we live in an old house but I couldnt stop sneezing from it. Also, there wasnt a brush to clean the barbecue with, unless we just couldnt find it and the shower in the downstairs bathroom leaks through the bottom of the door. It also doesnt say that the cottage is next to a very noisy busy road on the listing. Although, I guess this is my fault for not looking at google maps prior to booking it. Regardless we enjoyed the cottage and exploring the area.
We were a group of writers using the cottage for a writing retreat. It was absolutely perfect. Comfortable, plenty of space and great to relax in the hot tub after a long days writing!
Heather
Apart from one bed that wasnt comfy and a blow dryer that wouldnt work, this cottage was cozy, cute and fit our family perfectly!
Lovely cottage very well equipped. Friendly owner who contacted us and visited on our arrival to show us how to work the hot tub and other bits. Kitchen very well equipped with everything we needed. Comfortable seating in the Lounge. Plenty of dining seating too. Lovely garden area and great views of the cows in the field next to us.
Kathryn
When the can opener didn't work, the owner brought another one the next morning. Everything else worked perfectly! We were welcomed with Flowers, chocolate and wine. The place was clean and welcoming, wellmaintained. We hope to come again. It was a lovely place! Thank you.
The house was clean and tidy, however we had issues with a leaking roof in the downstairs toillet, some radators were not working correctly and toilet seat very loose. We aslo had a very disapointing situation on leaving, the person looking after the house Andrew turned up at exactly 10.00am and walked straight into the property and started to rearrange things even though we were still there cleaning and finishing off. I understand we should be out by 10.00 but we were out by 10 30 and have never been hassled like we were in this propety even though he have hired many sililar propities previously. Very poor attitude to their customers, I explained this was my wifes 70th birthday and we were running a little late but that mde no differnce to Andre, very RUDE AND OFF PUTTING !!
We stayed for a long weekend with friends and had a wonderful time. The local pub was only 200m up the road and the property was within driving distance of the Peak District. Lovely hot tub and garden area and comfortable beds. Thank you for having us!
Jennifer
Fabulous property Well looked after and superbly furnished. Welcome pack a lovely touch
Lovely, warm cottage with plenty of living space. Extremely well equipped. Owner was incredibly responsive and the welcome hamper was perfect. Thank you so much !
A wonderful property that had everything we needed and was in an excellent location. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you.
Booked the cottage for a weekend get together with my sister, 2 daughters and daughter in law. We had a great time, the cottage was large enough for our party, clean and well equipped. We really enjoyed the hot tub. We ate at the Dial in Burton on Saturday night, which we certainly recommend. The tapas were really good, and a great atmosphere. They were busy so would advise booking in advance
Samuel
We enjoyed our stay at the white cottage immensely . The only thing I have to moan about if you like was the cleanliness in kitchen cupboards. The welcome pack was much appreciated thank you.
The cottage was delightful and the flowers and welcome pack most appreciated. The house was well equipped and comfortable but we were unable to operate the tv in the snug despite following the instructions and the one in the lounge rather small for modern standards. The fourth bedroom was rather small and the beds fine for children but we we had teenagers who were tall and adult in size so we felt these beds were rather inadequate for adults. The garden also would be much more inviting with some more updated and comfortable furniture so we used it minimally.. Delightful but definitely needs some updating to meet modern standards.
Richard
A lovely house, very wellequipped. Plenty to do in the local area. Enjoyed the hot tub.
What a great holiday cottage. We really loved our welcome pack, it was a great start to our weekend away and really thoughtful. The cottage is beautiful, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. The lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms are all beautiful and very comfortable. We loved the hot tub and made good use of it. The cottage is close to a busy road, which initially worried us, however you can't hear the traffic once you're inside or even see it and when outside in the hot tub we didn't even notice it. We did a lovely walk past Bretby Hall to a local village for lunch and loved the area. We would definitely stay here again.
Alison
We loved our stay at The White Cottage, the kitchen was very well equipped, and the extras left on arrival were a lovely touch and much appreciated. It was a perfect place for a catch up with friends after so long thanks to the pandemic.
Stayed here with friends. Lovely cottage, great amenities. Everything we could of wanted was there. Hot tub was lovely too. Would definitely recommend
Kayleigh
We had a really lovely stay in Jan 2022. The house is even more beautiful in real life, everything you need is there and the hot tub is amazing. There was plenty of space for 8 of us and we really enjoyed having big dinners around the table together and sitting in the spacious living room. Wouldn't hesitate to book again!
Rosemary
Had property for 4 weeks throughout December for family reunion from around the world after 2 years of Covid restrictions. It is a lovely comfortable well furnished and really well equipped kitchen. Plenty of seating everywhere throughout. We were able to do a proper Christmas meal and hold birthday celebrations with ease. We had a 3 year old with us and soft toys and all necessary equipment were provided, a lovely Christmas hamper, and plenty of laundry as required and a great outside garden area, used BBQ but not hot tub! Nothing seemed to much trouble. Lighting in dining room a bit dim at this time of year and we did have some problems with heating and a roof leak all dealt with very quickly would happily go back again.
Lovley spacious cottage. Really enjoyed our stay. Loved the hot tub.
Michele
We had a lovely few days at the cottage , it was very clean and the tea , milk ect was very welcome. Just about everything you could need was supplied from plenty of cups through to towels for the hot tub . We visited Twycross zoo ,Conkers ,a great place for children to run around and the little train was a big hit and we enjoyed a couple of meals in the The Stanhope Arms two minutes walk up the hill.
Our holiday cottage was beautiful and we very much appreciated the fact we were able to have a break due to the difficulties the last year or so has presented for everyone! We have been going away as a group of ladies every year over 28 years now staying in cottages across England. Weve used Sykes for several occasions too for this. Every year it becomes easier to book, keep track and appreciate the reminders. I still like the personal touch of speaking to someone to book the cottages when possible and this was possible this time round too. The cottage was lovely and clean. The layout was perfect especially as Id had a hip replacement very short notice and really didnt want to miss out on going away and was able to have downstairs bedroom and bathroom facilities which were a god send! One lovely bonus moment was watching the cows and young calves bouncing about in the field right by the cottage!! Theres always a compromise with most cottages we stay in and on this occasion it was the busy road alongside. But we knew to expect this as we always check the map before booking. To be honest it wasnt an issue once inside and definitely not noticed with the bubbles of the hot tub noise! We all left wishing we owned the cottage and had the lovely decorative taste of the the owners! We were tempted to book their other cottage for another occasion knowing their standard of provision but sadly it was not big enough for us all. We love our opportunity to go way together with our friends and its cottages like this that make it possible to keep everyone happy so thank you!! Kindest regards Clare and friends !
The photos online didnt do the cottage justice at all. It was absolutely stunning and the owners thought of everything that you may need during a stay there. Would definitely go again
Vanessa
The cottage was fantastic, very well equipped for everything we needed for our trip and more . The owners had thought of everything from towels and plastic glasses for the hot tub, cushions for the outdoor furniture and a parasol, a barbecue , a paddling pool for little ones, every utensil you could think of for the kitchen and excellent quality furnishings, bedding and accessories. A lovely welcome hamper on arrival was a really nice touch too. It was so clean and tidy on arrival and we were very happy with all aspects of the cottage, it was by far the nicest place we have stayed in.
Stephen
The owners and the cottage are first class. Ideally located in Derbyshire its an idyllic cottage quiet, everything new in the cottage, beds comfortable hot tub fabulous, just been a perfect week there. Highly recommended.
