Walworth Castle is a magnificent Grade I listed, 12th century castle, which operates as a wonderful three star hotel, and from your cottage you can stroll across to the hotel to treat yourself to a glorious afternoon tea, a bar meal in Farmers' Bar, or really push the boat out and sample an exquisite dinner in Hansard's Restaurant and Library Tower. A short drive will take you to Darlington with a selection of restaurants, pubs and shops, as befits a large thriving town.
A little further afield, explore the splendid countryside around Richmond and Barnard Castle, enjoying the classic Dales landscape of dry stone walls, rivers and valleys. This is perfect walking country for those wanting to explore the upper valleys of Middleton-in-Teesdale, incorporating the well-known Cauldron Snout and the High and Low Force waterfalls.
Head north and visit the magnificent Durham Cathedral, perched high above the meandering River Wear. This delightful cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the Northern Dales.
