Walworth Castle Holiday Cottage Reviews

Joseph
Only things to improve would be to have side tables next to sofas and an outside light next to the hot tub.
Alison
This was our 7th stay at the cottage. A lovely break at this time of year. We look forward to the peaceful relaxing surroundings. Some problems with the boiler and plumbing was sorted quickly by the castle as always the cottage was clean everything we expect. Cant wait for stay next year.
Christopher
What a lovely stay at the cottage and the wonderful surroundings We was made very welcome by the Husband and Wife management team and all the staff who worked in the Hotel. We had the most wonderful food during our stay. We would love to come and stay in the Hotel when we dont have our dogs something to look forward to. Thanks again for a lovely stay Chris and Diane Charlie and Chilli
Shirley
Nice warm bungalow, spacious and clean. Did not use the hot tub during our stay.
Lauren
Beautiful house in the most perfect setting. Garden would benefit from some flowerstreesgrass but that didnt impact our holiday. Kids loved the park in the castle gardens while we enjoy a drink outside.
Darren
Lovely place to stay. Staff at the hotel were really helpful and friendly. Clean, comfortable and the hot tub was amazing.
Gareth
A beautiful cottage with everything you need, home from home. Perfectly situated within the castle grounds. Archers ice cream just a short walk or drive away is a must. Ideal place to relax and unwind
Denise
Very pretty cottage in the grounds of Walworth Castle Hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the hotel. We had lovely long walks with the dog. Cottage was perfect for touring the countryside. We will certainly go back next year. Highly recommended!
Deborah
This is a lovely little cottage. We stayed here with friends and had a great time. The addition of the hot tub was excellent. The cottage is clean and comfortable. It could do with some finishing touches, like outside lights and door mats and the access to the back yard via the small twin is a bit inconvenient, but these are minor. The grounds of the hotel are nice too.
Benedict
The Cottage as it is known is situated in the grounds of Walworth Castle Hotel, a 2 minute walk to the hotel reception. On arrival the receptionist and staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, providing instructions, Restraunt bookings and keys. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and well equipped with a welcome bottle of wine and team and coffee. The garden was enclosed, so good for our two dogs to wander around, and the beds and facilities were comfortable and well maintained. The hot tub great and ready to use, and well shielded from the grounds. We had two meals and a breakfast at the hotel, which were excellent and not expensive. Most of all I must mention the friendliness of all the staff the receptionist was great as was the restaurant manager and staff. Highly recommend and take no heed of the previous comments as everything was in good working order strong WiFi signal and spotless. We will be recommending this cottage to our friends and family.
Alison
This was our 6th stay at this cottage. We look forward to it this time of year. The cottage as always is clean and warm. It has everything we need. The hot tub is lovely to use on a night and the sky is so clear to watch the stars. It is quiet and we are not disturbed by the hotels close proximity. Looking forward already to next years visit.
Natalie
Wow! What a lovely place to stay. A great base for exploring. For those that like to go to a towncity you are not far from Durham or Richmond. It was great too to be able to pop to the hotel which it is on the same site, though you are tucked away, to be able to ask questions or have meals or drinks. Would definitely recommend and would stay again
Michael
Enjoyable stay, the property was nicely presented and spotless. If staying with a pet the woodland walks are really handy. Broadband speed is good too. Cons The crockery dinner plates are far too large to fit in the microwave and the side plates too small to be of any use.
Property needs a mat inside & outside the front door, a coffee table & more coat hangers. Property was clean & comfortable with good WiFi.
Beautiful location, in the grounds of Walworth Castle. ..Staff on reception very ,very helpful and friendly. Do have a Sunday lunch thereamazing ! Hot tub in courtyard is nice too....
Rachael
We had a lovely few days away, the cottage had everything you needed and was in a quiet location. Had weddings on whilst we were there but we didn't hear any noise. Hot tub was amazing.
Christine
We had the most wonderful stay here as 3 new mums escaping the craziness and just enjoying some uninterrupted conversation, amazing food and of course the hot tub. There's everything you could need in the kitchen for a relaxed weekend away. Definitely somewhere I would return with husband and child as there's a playground on site as well, with some animals in the nearby field. Staff very friendly. There were 2 weddings going on the weekend we stayed and you'd never have known! So quiet and relaxing. 1010 recommend.
Michael
Great location close to the North Pennines and North Yorkshire Dales, and being in the grounds of Walworth Castle a real bonus. Cottage very comfortable, and hot tub was great for soothing aching legs after long walks with the dogs.
Deborah
Cottage dated and needed a lot of updating everything was worn and grubby. The housekeeping left a lot to be desired it wasnt very clean. The pictures made it look bigger than it actually was. The out side space a was a yard with hot tub and a wicker fence that was full of holes. Not worth the money and definitely NOT 4star 2star at the most
We had a great week at Walworth Castle cottage. Everything we needed was there including a large jacuzzi, large TV, DVD player, great WIFI and a full array of cooking utensils in the kitchen. The snacks and drink left for us was very welcome and the staff at the hotel were ever so friendly and helpful. The oven was not working and the hotel replaced it within the day and they cooked our tea in the castle kitchens and brought it over to us. A very pleasant and secluded stay and would definitely come back again in the future. Deborah and Ray.

Only 2 chairs outside, the cottage sleeps 4 No yard brush, this would facilitate cleaning up after your dog Mop provided was not useable, mop head wrong size for stale would not stay together A soft long handled brush for inside would have made cleaning daily much easier, when you have dogs it is better to sweep up regularly
Heather
Great cottage in the grounds of a hotel. Little lacking for cooking utensils but still a nice cottage. Hot tub was great and the location was great for exploring.
Michelle
Wonderful cottage . .very well equipped.. would definitely stay here again. Perfect for the 4 legged friend enclosed back garden with hot tub great addition.
Graham
A lovely relaxing time was had stopping at Walworth Castle Holiday Cottage. The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed for a week's break very clean & comfortable. The hot tub was a great extra & was enjoyed whilst staring into the night sky. The cottage is set in the grounds of Walworth Castle Hotel which is a beautiful building & is an impressive view in itself. The food in the hotel restaurant was superb with a great menu. All staff were lovely approachable, friendly & helpful, with a special mention to Melissa who ensured our break went without a hitch & gave a very informative tour of the dungeon & library. The cottage proved a great base for local walks, with easy road access for walks slightly further afield. Would highly recommend & will look to book again.
Our stay in this cottage was wonderful. The whole experience was great and the hot tub was magical. The only criticism is that our names were given out by the hotel to a caller asking who had booked the cottage for this period.
Alison
This is our fourth stay in this cottage at this time of year We love exploring surrounding area with our two dogs. The hot tub is the main reason for our stay. It is serviced regularly, twice during our stay. We turn the light on in the bedroom to give extra light for getting into the hot tub. The sky is so clear with no light pollution and its so relaxing to look at the stars. Any more outside lights I feel would spoil this. The cottage is always immaculately clean. The internet has been improved this visit no complaints there. As always provides a peaceful relaxing holiday which we look forward to again next year.
Lovely stay in the cottage with 2 dogs. Just a couple of minor things. An outside light near the hot tub would be good when using in the Winter months as the only outside light is at the far end of the yard and it's not very bright. The hot tub would benefit from a gazebo for extra cover as well. An extra baking tray would be useful as there is only one plus a roasting tin. There is some coving missing from the double bedroom. Overall I would go back and it was lovely warm, woods to walk the dogs in as well as other walks nearby.
Graham
We enjoyed our stay at Walworth Castle Holiday Cottage. Very helpful and friendly Staff at the Castle. Would recommend others to visit and stay there.
Lovely cottage in the grounds of Walworth Castle. Private yard with Hot tub only small negative was not all the jets work on the hot tub but a very enjoyable stay
A lovely cottage situated in the grounds of a hotel. The staff were very helpful, going above and beyond with our TV problems. Some small quibbles, oven didn't work properly, poorly equipped kitchen, needs more utensils. Apart from that a lovely stay was had by all.

I am sorry to say that i did not enjoy my holiday at Walworth cottage at all. I have booked with Sykes cottages previously, but would think twice about booking again because of this experience. If you check your records, you will see that 4 weeks prior to my holiday, I spoke to a member of Sykes cottages staff. I asked if they could forward a message to the owner of the cottage regarding a sun cover near the hot tub. I have to keep out of direct sunlight, and because I had seen a previous review on the website of someone else complaining about this very issue, I wanted to get something in place before my holiday. However, I was informed that the company did not think that this was an issue. Despite a previous review letting them know that this was an issue. Therefore, I could not use the hot tub at all and this ruined the holiday for my husband and I. Also, I had to make 4 requests for a member of staff to come to the cottage and fix the T.V., as we couldnt get a signal at all. I wouldnt normally be bothered about T.V. When I am on holiday, but unfortunately, I wasnt very well and spent a lot of time in the cottage with no T.V. Or entertainment services whatsoever. The company cannot keep blaming COVID for everything they are lacking, as the cottage I was at last year had plenty of DVDs, games and books to read. No one bothered to come and have a look at the T.V. or inform us that there was a problem with the T.V. until our final request when it was too late. This should have been pointed out to us before our holiday. Finally, the outdoor hot tub space was very shabby and unkempt, another previous review complaint, which foolishly I failed to take notice of. I wouldnt recommend this cottage to anyone in its present condition and it definitely was not worth the money. In fact, when I am feeling a bit better, I intend to put my own review on the website. Please could you let me know when you have received this feedback as this is the 4th message I have sent and I have also rang Sykes cottages twice without success. Thank you. Mrs S Wake.

No wi fi for whole week , my 95 year old mum is in care home , promised i would video call her daily as she is very poorly , Care home were going to zoom me if necessary, reception staff were wonderful and actually offered me the bridal suite for the duration of my stay which i refused due to there being 4 of us and my dog, were very apologetic but should really not advertise as being wi fi because there wasnt any, it cost me an extra 30 to add more data to my phone to be able to stay connected, cottage was very clean and comfortable, hot tub was nice to unwind
Russell
The cottage is in the grounds of a hotel and staff were very helpful and friendly. The cottage, though clean, was a little tired and needs updating particularly the bathroom where there is a lot of grout missing from floor tiles and stains on the bath panel. The livingkitchendining area is quite small, the master bedroom is however very roomy, its a pity there was no ensuite as there is plenty of room in this bedroom. Beds were very comfortable. The TV speakers rattled and we struggled to hear it. The WiFi was intermittent, with a good connection some days but nothing at all on others. Outside there is a secluded yard which acts as a sun trap, this had some garden furniture and a base for a parasol but no parasol. The hot tub was large and worked well, but like the rest of the cottage, a little rough around the edges, the headrests were worn as was the control panel. The hoover didnt work. This place could be nice with a little attention to detail.

The pictures dont do this cottage justice. After booking we regretted it a little due to the images, but when we got there.. We were amazed, it was incredible. The cottage was lovely and the scenery was perfect! It was everything we wanted and better. The hot tub is great and the cottage had everything we would need. The castle was beautiful and the staff so friendly. We also had Sunday lunch at the castle which was the best Sunday lunch I have ever had My partner. We will definitely visit again.
A faded gem. We first visited this cottage around 34 years ago. This was our third visit as it's in a perfect location for us and gives a hot tub break at a reasonable price in off peak season. Cleanliness was still great as it always has been, but having loved our first stay here this place is really in need of an update. My above average scores are largely based on cost, the hot tub, and having the hotel restaurants on site for a meal. As was the case back on our first stay, WiFi is still awful and not dedicated to the cottage. Each visit we raise the WiFi problem and each visit they're 'experiencing problems'. We booked in full knowledge we'd rely on our mobile phones this trip. The hot tub and bathroom and kitchen are starting to look tired and there was a permanent fault displayed on the hot tub. On our first night, the oven took well over an hour to warm up and was incredibly noisy, utensilstrays etc are limited too. Something also needs to be done about the wasp situation which again has long been an issue and I think could easily be resolved by removing the foliage attracting them directly behind the hot tub site. A sun shade for the patio would be great too. I'm writing this review a while after our Oct 2020 stay so can't comment for whether any work has since been done. Only if the management were to revamp amenities would we return now. I do really recommend the restaurants though. Lovely Sunday lunch.
Andrew
Great cottage very clean and a hot tub will come again

This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Lightwater Valley - HG4 3HT
about 26 Miles
Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.
